Men’s Physique Athletes to Watch

Below are three athletes in the Men’s Physique division who could contend for a podium position:

Kevin Brown

Kevin Brown has finished fourth twice and seventh once this season. He’s a rookie trying to make his Olympia debut. With 20 athletes in this lineup, it is the biggest contest he will compete in thus far in the 2023 season. He could win this show if he stands out with his wide shoulders and narrow waist.

Reuben Glass

Reuben Glass finished outside the top 15 at the 2022 Olympia. The four-year pro is still looking for his first pro show win and aims to do that here in his 2023 season debut. With only four weeks left to qualify for the 2023 Olympia — the qualification cutoff is on Oct. 9, 2023 — he needs to be at his best for this show.

Alexander Toplyn

Alexander Toplyn was second at the 2023 Pacific USA Pro show. That is the closest he has come to winning this season in three attempts. He ranked 14th in the 2022 Men’s Physique Olympia and would like to make a second straight appearance. Only show winners move on to the big stage in 2023, so Toplyn must win to qualify.

Bikini Athletes to Watch

Below are the likeliest first callouts in the Bikini division contest:

Yurika Shigemoto

Yurika Shigemoto has won her last two contests this season. She scored gold at the 2023 Tokyo Pro and the 2023 Musclecontest Irongames Pro. She doesn’t need this win but could keep future opponents out of the Olympia with a third consecutive victory. Her Olympia spot is safe regardless of how she fares in this show.

Tamekia Carter

Tamekia Carter is entering her fifth show of the 2023 season. Her last outing was at the 2023 Texas Pro, where ranked third overall. The second-year pro aims to earn her first Olympia qualification and first pro win in the same contest.

Malu Duarte

Malu Duarte is coming off a runner-up finish at the 2023 Musclecontest Irongames Pro, which was the highest of her four appearances this season. The 2019 Amateur Olympia South America winner is in her fourth pro season. She’s never been on the Olympia stage, but given how she stacks up against the rest of the field, this is a good chance for her to qualify
