Singaporean powerlifter Farhanna Farid first came to the strength world’s attention at the 2022 International Powerlifting Federation (IPF) Classic World Championships (CWC) in Sun City, South Africa, when she lifted in the 52-kilogram class and broke the deadlift world record not once, but twice. She first lifted 197 kilograms (434 pounds) and then locked out a massive 200.5 kilograms (442 pounds).
Farid lost the record to Evie Corrigan at the 2023 Sheffield Powerlifting Championships but regained it with a speedy 203-kilogram (447.5-pound) deadlift in Malta at the 2023 CWC.
The Asian Powerlifting Federation (APF) is a regional affiliate of the IPF, and they held their 2023 Asian Classic Championships (ACC) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Dec. 10-18, 2023. Farid took the opportunity to extend the raw deadlift world record to 208 kilograms (458.5 pounds), finally hitting the four-times-bodyweight deadlift that she had been seeking. Take a look at the lift below, courtesy of the IPF’s Instagram page:
Farid set up the lift with a wide sumo stance and took the bar in a mixed grip. She pulled the slack out of the barbell and settled her hips into place before beginning the pull.
Once the weight moved, the bar leapt to lock out in a heartbeat. Once the weight was back on the platform, Farid stepped back and took a well-deserved bow, looking both delighted and a little shocked. Perhaps it felt as easy as it looked.

Farid had been chipping away at this record, typically adding half a kilo (one pound) or two (4.5 pounds). However, this time around, she added a full five kilograms (11 pounds).
One explanation for this sudden weight jump could be Farid’s adoption of a lifting belt. Up to now, she has performed her impressive deadlifts beltless. The 2023 ACC was her first time using a belt in competition.
This lift puts Farid only two kilograms (4.5 pounds) away from the all-time world record deadlift in the 52-kilogram class. Only one person has ever lifted more in this class: Alisha Luna at the 2022 World Raw Powerlifting Federation (WRPF) USA National Championships on Sept. 22, 2023, with 210 kilograms (463 pounds). As easy as Farid’s lift seemed, she looks set to exceed it when she competes again.
This contest marked Farid’s fourth Asian Classic title — she is undefeated at this competition. It’s not clear where Farid will next compete, but her next opportunity to add weight to the raw deadlift world record is the 2024 IPF CWC in Druskininkai, Lithuania.
