No workout today. We did go hiking this afternoon. Not terribly challenging, but a pleasant walk in the woods over varied terrain on a couple mile loop.

A little bit light on calories today which is odd, because I feel pretty full. Plenty of protein, though, so it should be fine.

Hockey game last night. The league I play in is varied in skill level. There are some guys who played at a high level in college and are still at least minor league pro level. Others, like me, never played anywhere special (though I've been playing hockey for 52 years) and are pretty fast and skilled, but not quite on the same level as the guys I mentioned above. There are some lower skilled players as well. Then there are the high schoolers. These kids are EXTREMELY fast. Several of them embarrassed me several times last night. Needless to say, I was 100% effort 100% of the time trying (unsuccessfully) to keep up with these kids. My whole body is sore today! As it always is after a night of hockey. We were shorthanded, too, so lots of ice time.

I'm about to leave the house for my regular weekly coaching session. I train with a couple of goalies; each of us gets a 30 minute session, so we're on the ice for 1-1/2 hours with a coach. So it's a pretty intense hour and a half.

Usually, the day after a hockey game I'm a couple of pounds lighter than every other morning from water loss through sweating intensely. Not so this morning. 191 even. I'll probably need a rest day tomorrow before I hit the weights again, which I plan to do Saturday.

192.4 this morning. I am wearing my 32" waist work jeans, so apparently I'm not getting fat. I must be making some gains.

Chest workout today, which has been done on the installment plan. Not ideal; I've had to fit it in around other things that are not movable. I got started with some warmup:

Lateral raises for shoulders:
10lb db 1x20
Empty bar bench press:
1x20
135: 1x10:
185: 1x5 - I'm going to try to do 5 "work" sets of 5. Thus I'm counting as a warmup set but only did 5 reps to prevent premature fatigue.

Then the backhoe mechanic showed up. We work together on my machine, so that interrupted my workout. We finished for the day just before lunch.

After lunch, I got some sets in before a different appointment at 1:00:

185 warmup: 1x5
225: 1x5
245: 1x5
245: 1x3 (no spotter, this was as close to failure as I could get by myself)
225: 1x5

Out of time. So only 4 work sets, but I felt good. Dealt with my other appointment; ran a couple of backhoe related errands (parts); then home for afternoon snack:
46g cashews, lightly salted;
1 hard boiled egg (56g)
1 apple with skin (197g)

Back out to the gym to do incline db presses:

55lbs: 1x5
60: 1x5
65: 1x5
70: 1x5
70: 1x4
65: 1x4

I followed that with the lightweight Arnie presses:

10lb db: 1x10
15lb: 1x10 - last few reps form was terrible. Have to keep working at this. Getting stronger, though.
