Men’s Open Athletes to Watch
Below of three Men’s Open competitors who have previously displayed gold-quality physiques who the judges might be keen to reward in Illinois.
Blessing Awodibu
None of the men in this lineup have qualified for the 2023 Mr. Olympia contest going into the show. Blessing Awodibu will make his long-awaited 2023 debut in this event. The 2022 New York Pro winner was originally set to enter the 2023 Arnold Classic, but he withdrew from the contest, ultimately won by Samson Dauda.
Awodibu wants to return to the Olympia stage and improve on his 2022 placing, which was outside the top 15 at the 2022 Mr. Olympia contest won by Hadi Choopan. Fans are hopeful for a bigger and better version of “The Boogieman” this time.
Jon De La Rosa
This is De La Rosa’s first pro appearance in over three years. His last pro contest was the 2020 New York Pro, where he ranked third. De La Rosa was the 2015 Chicago Pro winner but ranked 10th in the 2018 edition of this contest. If he wins and enters the Olympia, it will be his first time competing on that stage since 2019, when he placed 12th.
Justin Shier
This will be Justin Shier’s pro debut. Many fans are waiting to see what he looks like in pre-judging. The Oregon native turned pro by winning the heavyweight class at the 2021 NPC National Championships. He’s been working with coach Matt Jansen, who works with two-time Olympia 212 champion Shaun Clarida and 2021 Arnold Classic winner Nick Walker.

Figure Athletes to Watch
Below are three Figure athletes who are early favorites to claim podium positions.
Autumn Cleveland
Autumn Cleveland was in the 2022 Figure Olympia but suffered an illness the weekend of the contest resulting in a finish outside the top 15. Since then, she’s focused on her return to the Olympia stage.
Cleveland entered the 2023 Vancouver Pro on the weekend of July 15-16 but scored silver when only pro show winners advance to the 2023 Olympia. This contest is closer to her Kentucky home, and Cleveland has time to make adjustments to the final stages of her prep.
Adela Ondrejovicova
Adela Ondrejovicova has already qualified for the 2023 Olympia thanks to her Lenda Murray Atlanta Pro victory on July 15, 2023. She’s entering this contest for extra experience, the prestige that comes with a winm and the potential to block another contender from reaching the Olympia lineup.
Danielle Rose
Danielle Rose was fourth in this contest in 2022 and 2019. Those are her highest placings in four attempts at this show. She’s been a pro since 2018 and has been in the mix for pro show titles. However, she has yet to seal the deal, as her highest career placing is second at the 2022 Puerto Rico Pro.
