Twenty Individual male and 20 Individual female CrossFitters will stake their claim to the second-largest prize purse in the sport behind the CrossFit Games at the 2023 Rogue Invitational, scheduled for Oct. 27-28, 2023, at the Dell Diamond Stadium in Round Rock, TX. Among the elite athletes who received invitations to compete are defending champion and current Fittest Woman on Earth® Laura Horvath and the return of the six-time Fittest Woman on Earth® Tia-Clair Toomey following her time off during pregnancy.

On Sept. 27, 2023, Heber Cannon and Marston Sawyers, popularly known as the Buttery Bros, published a video on their YouTube channel wherein they traveled to Hawaii to raise awareness about the Keala Foundation and train with the two-time CrossFit Games athlete Alex Gazan and five-time Games athlete Will Moorad, who were in the initial phases of their Rogue CrossFit Invitational preps. Gazan & Moorad’s 2023 Rogue Invitational Prep
Gazan finished fifth at the 2023 CrossFit Games — a significant leap from her 24th-place finish at the 2022 Games. Her outstanding progress earned her the Most Improved Award at the conclusion of the 2023 season. Moorad achieved his career-best CrossFit Games finish, 10th, in 2019. It will be Gazan’s debut at the Rogue CrossFit Invitational at the end of October and Moorad’s third time battling at the Dell Diamond.

The training day with the Buttery Bros consisted of the following three workouts:

Workout One
In the first workout, Gazan and Moorad prioritized achieving a zone four threshold heart rate (80–90 percent of max heart rate) to improve their anaerobic capacity. Training around the anaerobic threshold delays lactic acid build-up, which can help maintain high intensity for longer.

Workout Two
Mooard and Gazan went their separate ways for the second workout. While Mooard focused on Olympic weightlifting, Gazan did heavy sets of front and back squats, followed by a six-minute EMOM clean & jerk circuit.

Workout Three
Cannon partnered with Gazan in the concluding workout, while Sawyers joined forces with Moorad. Cannon and Sawyers switched wall-facing strict handstand push-ups with the conventional handstand push-ups midway through the workout to maintain high training intensity and ensure they didn’t hinder Moorad and Gazan’s Rogue Invitational prep.

Looking Forward
With the reigning champ, Justin Meideros, not competing at the 2023 Rogue CrossFit Invitational, a new men’s division champion will be crowned. The 2023 CrossFit Games champion Jeffrey Adler, silver medalist Patrick Vellner, and bronze medalist Roman Khrennikov will battle against Moorad at the Dell Diamond. In addition to Horvath and Toomey, Gazan will attempt to secure the top of the podium against 2023 CrossFit Games runner-up Emma Lawson, Arielle Loewen, and Gabriela Miga?a, among over a dozen other of the sport’s best.
