Bellator MMA The Bellator 255 main event is a go.
Headliners Patricio Freire and Emmanuel Sanchez both successfully made championship weight for Friday’s headliner, which also serves as the semi-finals of the Bellator World Featherweight Grand Prix and a rematch of their Bellator 209 in which Freire defended his title with a unanimous decision win over Sanchez.
Whoever wins the Bellator 255 main event becomes the new champion and goes on to face the unbeaten A.J. McKee in the tournament finals.
Co-main event welterweights Neiman Gracie and Jason Jackson also successfully made weight, as did the debuting Usman Nurmagomedov, who enters Friday’s card with an unblemished 11-0 record and former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov in his corner.
Three fighters failed to make weight at Friday’s official weigh-ins: Welterweights Mukhamed Berkhamov and Roman Faraldo, and middleweight Fabio Aguiar. It is not yet known if their respective opponents will accept the bouts at a catchweight and if so, what percentage of their purses Berkhamov, Faraldo, and Aguiar may have to forfeit.
