Benefits of Red Meat

Steak Your Claim

Red meat gets a bad rap. We cut through the bull.

Even raw, it's hard to look at a big steak without wanting to bite right into it. Some primal instinct is heightened, and the caveman in all of us gets hungry. Numerous studies, though, have linked red meat — unfairly, in our estimation — to everything from heart disease to prostate cancer. The problem? Most of this research uses data from the sedentary general population to create dietary guidlines for the rest of us, including serious athletes and bodybuilders. The most salient point, however, remains: Lean or even slightly fatty red meat is a key component of a muscle-building diet.

HERE’S THE LOWDOWN:
1. One eight-ounce strip steak packs 52 grams of protein to just 6 grams of fat. That’s a fantastic ratio, and the whole thing packs just 265 calories.

2. Red meat contains 15 mg of niacin per half pound. Also known as vitamin B3, niacin has been shown to heighten vasodilation, or the expansion of blood vessels, and increase HDL or “good” cholesterol.

3. Go for “grass-finished” beef whenever you can find it. Cattle that eat an all-grass diet have higher levels of healthy omega-3 fats than those that eat corn. “Grass-fed” is a usually reliable label to look for, but some farmers take advantage and use it to define cattle that start on grass but spend most of their lives eating corn.

4. Beef is an excellent source of:
Zinc, which increases sperm count and is crucial to prostate health
Iron, a key component of oxygen delivery within your cells, Selenium which can give your immune system a boost against illnesses

I get all kinds of crap about my show diet making my BP high and cholesterol etc. BP yesterday was 118/67 and I eat 4lbs of red meat every other day!!

I eat a ton of it too, not 4 lbs, but the last time I checked mine it was 121/67

well I talked to a nutritionalist and he said that red meat gets a bad rap for the bacteria present in it that builds up in the digestive tract...

his theory was that all meat starts to decay the second it dies so when you eat meat your putting rotting flesh in your body-TRUE BUT our bodies are designed to handle this over the years of evolution, granted some people handle it better than others

I read an article the other day that claims a high carb diet will also cause a huge increase in cholesteral...

so basically unless your a vegetarian YOUR FUCKED! yeah right

fish-oh your putting too much mercury in your system

red meat-too much bacteria and the steriods they give the cows

chicken-steriods and they're not free range

yeah your bp may be fine, and in fact pretty damn impressive for 4 pounds every other day but I bet you have about 20 pounds of meat in your colon lol

Bro my waist is 30 inches!! I believe what I see, not what some jackass with less formal education or real world experience says. We aren't like the general population in anyway! In fact I'm going to eat another 12 oz of lean ground beef just for you!! I have to cut it to 3 meals starting Sat.

I could eat steak for every meal. The only problem is I lean towards the fattier cuts like the ribeye.
