Comparing Individual Athletes Across the Seven 2023 CrossFit Semifinals

With the seven CrossFit Semifinals in the 2023 season having standardized workouts, it’s possible to more accurately compare how athletes from around the globe stacked up relative to each other. The 2023 CrossFit Games are scheduled for Aug. 1-6, 2023, in Madison, WI.
While not every athlete always needs to go full send in every event in the Semifinals the same way their might at the Games, analyzing the Semifinal results can offer a glimpse into how athletes might perform against each other in Madison. For reference, here are the 2023 CrossFit Semifinal Results:

Below are the top finishers of the 2023 Semifinal events for each of the Individual divisions if all the athletes had competed in the same competition.

Muir was the only female on the planet to finish this workout in under 24 minutes. The European athletes were dominant in this event, claiming seven of the top 10 times globally. By comparison, no female athlete at the Africa Semifinal finished this workout within the time cap.
No female athlete in the Americas finished faster than Danielle Brandon’s time of 26:35.38 at the North American West Semifinal. Stacy Lerum scored the top time of 26:51.26 at the North American West Semifinal. Andreia Pinheiro was the only female athlete to finish within the time cap at the South America Semifinal at 29:12.

European athletes on the men’s side took half of the top times of Workout One. Thomas was the only athlete worldwide to finish with a time under 22 minutes.
Brent Fikowski’s time of 23:02.41 was the fastest at the North American West Semifinal. Arthur Semenov’s time of 23:40 was the fastest at the Asia Semifinal.
No one at the Africa Semifinal or South America Semifinal finished sub-25 minutes. Jason Smith and Lago Guiraldes had the respective top times of 25:56 and 25:15.

Kalyan Souza was the fastest in South America, with a second to spare before 15 minutes. Kealan Henry at 15:15 was the top time in Africa.

Michelle Basnett’s 179 pounds was the top snatch in Africa. Dema Zebdieh’s 185-pound snatch was the top lift in Asia. Laura Clifton’s 195-pound snatch topped out Oceania.

This was arguably the closest event worldwide. Athletes in South America, Asia, and Africa still lagged behind Europe, North America, and Oceania on the whole, but not by as wide of a margin as in other workouts.
Lago Guiraldes’ time of 3:09 was the top result in South America. Semenov was the best in Asia again, but his 3:13.38 would not get into toward the top of the standings at the Games. Justin Holliday finished in 3:24 for Africa’s fastest time.

This was arguably the closest event worldwide. Athletes in South America, Asia, and Africa still lagged behind Europe, North America, and Oceania on the whole, but not by as wide of a margin as in other workouts.


Lago Guiraldes’ time of 3:09 was the top result in South America. Semenov was the best in Asia again, but his 3:13.38 would not get into toward the top of the standings at the Games. Justin Holliday finished in 3:24 for Africa’s fastest time.
