Competition - Getting real

I hate to be the curmudgeon, but I think some things need to be said.

There are many levels of competition. And at each one of those, the field at a given time can be hit or miss.

Yesterday I was in the audience of a local show in which the top three of a masters bikini class would have smoked their open classes (at least done VERY well) had they done it. Yet we have individuals that place 2nd in a field of 4 that brought no real competition and feel they're ready for the bi...g stage. Or, conversely, we have someone place third in a truly competitive and close class and get discouraged, when they've earned a head held high; I've seen classes at a big local show directly jump into a national show a few weeks later and see the same top 3.

It's cliche, but make improving your theme. Because what you can't control is the field, but what you can control is you. And when you allow a first place finish to blow your head up..you're eventually going to be very humbled.

And on that note, don't predict your placing before your show. I can't count the number of times I've heard people claim no one would "touch them" when they don't make top 3 in a weak class. Quickest way to lose respect..

This is EXACTLY why my signature in posts always says "Everything Is Relative" not too many people even know what the hell it means period, but its especially meaningful when it comes to competing. When my wife was robbed at the Maryland State Cup , as she walked back stage after being fucked over, we looked at each other and at the same time said "Everything Is Relative!" What was Relative , was the fact that 90% of the crowd were all there for the chick who beat my wife.

So I agree with the authors comments, especially getting down or discouraged for not placing as well as you maybe should have. You simply can not think like that in this sport, where at any given moment the competitor next to you could have the judges dick on their breath. Its a foul Foul Odor, and sure stinks to the high heavens lol, but thats nothing you can control , unless of course you think thats a halitosis worth having!

Essentially you learn, that your only competing against yourself, and as long as you look better today than you did yesterday, thats really all you can control, everything else is RELATIVE!
