Macronutrients (Macros for short) are the nutrients that your body uses for fuel. The three main macros are protein, fats and carbs.

To lose fat you need to be in a calorie deficit and to optimally build muscle you need to be in a calorie surplus. That being said, your macros are what dictate, what your body looks like on the outside. Protein is the most important macro for building muscle as it helps with its growth and repair. Fats are also very important as they help with the absorption of fat soluble vitamins (A, D, E &K) & help with the production of hormones (particularly testosterone). Carbohydrates are our bodies main fuel source and help us to perform and recover optimally.
