Jeffrey Adler is the Fittest Man on Earth®. The final day of the 2023 CrossFit Games in Madison, WI, from August 1-6, saw the Canadian CrossFitter finish the comeback he mounted on the penultimate day of competition to claim the Games throne.
The 2023 Games were Adler’s fifth career appearance on CrossFit’s grandest stage. He’d previously finished in the top five twice — fifth in 2020 and 2022.

Adler kicked off the Games with a runner-up finish to Jonne Koski in Event One. After the rest of the first day, comprised of a finish in the bottom half of the field in Event Two and a middling finish in Event Three, a top leaderboard spot for Adler seemed out of reach. But the Games are a marathon, not a sprint.
It was during day two of Individual competition that Adler began to mount his comeback: He scored back-to-back eighth-place finishes in Events Four and Five, followed by his first win of the 2023 Games in Event Six.
Entering the weekend, it seemed like a two-horse race between Adler and Roman Khrennikov, who’d led the Men’s division for the majority of the Games up to that point. Adler, a competitor known for his raw strength, made significant improvements in training, illustrated by his second-place finish in the 5k event.
Adler stayed toward the top of the field for Saturday’s remaining events. He ranked seventh in Event Eight and fourth in Event Nine, where athletes had to total the most weight possible between the clean & jerk and snatch — an event Adler was expected to place well in. Aiding Adler’s rise to the top was Khrennikov having his worst day of the competition, ranking 17th and 16th in Events Eight and Nine, respectively.

Adler kicked off the final day of competition with his second win in Event 10. Unfortunately, Khrennikov suffered a foot injury due to an awkward landing over one of the logs in Event 10. In the penultimate event, Khrennikov limped on the Coliseum floor. He could not apply pressure to his left foot and performed the double-unders and sled pulls on one leg. As a result, he could not finish the workout. Adler ranked seventh in the event.
Adler wore the leader’s jersey leading into the final event and was mathematically locked to be the Fittest Man on Earth® as Khrennikov would not be capable of posting a top finish while injured.
A tremendous comeback — mixed with remarkable consistency and noticeable improvements over his 2022 capabilities — from Day Two onward resulted in Adler winning his first-ever CrossFit Games title.
O, Canada!
With this win, Adler is the second Canadian to win an Individual Men’s title. The first is James FitzGerald, who won the inaugural CrossFit Games in 2007. This victory also caps off a dominant season from Adler, who took home the top spot at both the 2023 CrossFit Open and the North American East Semifinal earlier in the year.
