L-Ornithine is an amino acid that we can make on our own, but we can also get it through our diet. Therefore, it’s not an essential amino acid, but you’ll likely want to seek out foods or supplements with ornithine if you want to increase your intake.

Some research has shown that combining L-ornithine with L-arginine and L-citrulline can enhance growth hormone production. We don’t have data on the long-term effects of this synergy, but it could be helpful for joint health throughout a long-term training program.

Mostly, the benefits from L-ornithine supplementation lie in its ability to reduce accumulation of ammonia during fatiguing exercise. This can enhance endurance or even increase reps to failure during high rep training. I don’t think ornithine is a must-have supplement by any means, but it’s not your worst bet for getting a small boost in the gym.
