On Wednesday, the Nevada Athletic Commission voted unanimously on recommendations from executive director Bob Bennett for the officials assigned to oversee the highly anticipated trilogy between Miocic and Cormier.
Goddard, who was recently in the headlines after a fighter shoved him in the cage, served as the referee in the first meetings between the heavyweights; at UFC 226, Cormier finished Miocic to become a two-division UFC champion. Miocic then exacted his revenge at UFC 241 to reclaim the heavyweight title.
As for the judges working the UFC 252 main event, Derek Cleary, Sal D’Amato and Junichiro Kamijo will score the fight. Judges have not been needed for Miocic and Cormier’s previous bouts with both ending in stoppages.
For Cormier, the event serves as the final fight of his career after he announced plans to retire from competition no matter the result.
UFC 252 goes down from the UFC APEX in Las Vegas on Saturday night, Aug. 15, with the main card airing on pay-per-view.
