Metformin HCL....acquiring knowledge

I've been reading up on this drug recently. Is there anyone with experience with it? It's supposed to up-regulate your insulin receptors to better allow your body to process carbohydrates and minimize fat storage. Similar to insulin it seems. I can't seem to find anything about negative side effects other than the rare possibility of hypoglycemia if not eating enough carbs. Nowhere near as common as with slin though.

Has anyone used this? How do the results compare to slin? Worth trying at some point down the road?

***This question is for educational purposes only. This is not something I plan on using in the near future. Just trying to gain some knowledge in case I decide to try something new down the road.

Thanks!

Metformin is a pretty benign diabetic drug as far as they go, but there are done things to watch on it.

It works just like you said, it basically sensitized your body's natural insulin receptors do that you are more sensitive to your natural insulin. This allows you to store glucose in muscle tissue quicker instead of it going to fat tissue.

The main use I see for it w bodybuilding is with kerogen if diets as it will lower your blood glucose a bit quicker which gets you into ketosis faster. Ideally you would use it with a bigger carb meal so these carbs get stored in muscle tissue for use later rather than adipose tissue. There is an added benefit of some appetite suppression because it controls your insulin levels pretty well which decreases your hunger craves.

That said, something you definitely have to watch out for is kidney issues with Metformin. The most dangerous side effect is lactic acidosis which is s very severe form of kidney failure. Anyone with kidney disease should avoid this drug. While on it you should avoid other meds/supps that hit your kidneys hard and drink plenty of water. You should avoid the excessive use of alcohol while taking it and should avoid severe dehydration while on it.

Symptoms can be relatively benign and include things from fatigue, insomnia, and myalgias to respiratory distress.

You need your kidney function checked before starting this medicine and then rechecked on a regular basis.

Hope that helps and if you want to know anything more specific let me know and I'll try to answer.

have just started taking this medication today.

came here to look and see if anyone has posted about using clen and t3 whilst taking this medication.

can post my results if anyone is interested. the doctor said I should know within a week if it works and then we can narrow down what my issues are.

currently have used t3 and clen together for the last 2 weeks and only lost 500g. I track my macros, lift a few times a week, do hitt a few times a week and a few steady state walks.

I'm interested in your results, as well as your method of use.

What dose are you taking?

I'm assuming you take it post workout?

How many grams of carbs are you taking with it?

Are you taking any anabolics with it?

Age you taking IGF with it?

Do you know how it would interact with IGF? It would make sense for some synergy to take place with the two.

If you are taking it with t3 and clen, then it sounds like you're cutting, and I've read that it's great for that.

From what little I've read about it, you should be able to have more carbs than usual since that would increase your glycogen levels.
It should also help you to utilize all other nutrients as well.
Similar to insulin.
It seems like this would give you more of a recomop than a cut, depending on the rest of your diet, of course.

Like I said, I've still got some more leg work to do, but I plan on taking it with Albuterol and IGF alongside my AAS.
From what I've read so far, it seems to be a nice combo for cutting or a recomop.

I'd also be curious concerning how it would work with Albuterol (closely related to Clen, but with a shorter half-life)
It doesn't seem like it would really matter, unless there's some type of synergy. I wouldn't expect there would be though.

I haven't began any serious research on it yet, but I have quite a bit of it sitting around just waiting on me to try it, so I'd like to pick up a thing or two while we're at it.

As far as the t3, I'm too scared to mess with my thyroid brother.

I am not taking anything else.

Right now I need to get my weight down so that I can get in to sprint training and ease the pressure on my shins along with orthodics and biomechanics analysis. Im not really interested in building muscle at the moment and will re-evaluate when I get down to my maintenance weight.

ive been dieting and training for a few years and the same common theme is if i eat a few g ove my carbs or even high gi carbs than low gi i will put on 600g-1.2kgs overnight and will take a week of low gi and hard training to lose that 600g.

I believe now we are considering early stages of PCOS.

so the Dr prescribed it to me this morning.

currently on 50mcg of t3
and 100mcg of clen- have only lost about 500g this week.

macros are 100p 80f and 150 carbs.

im wondering if i should increase some of these whilst taking the extra stuff. I have a macros coach but not willing to tell her about the added supplements.

Dr prescribed the metformin to be taken in the mornings after food. Its a relatively low dosage of 500.

I do have low blood glucose when fasted and insulin sensitivity. regularly my cortisol is through the roof too.

was planning on taping off both t3 and clen for the next week then will just use metformin for 2 weeks to see what it does by itself and then reevaluate in 3 weeks time.

It sounds like you're really having a tough time geting the results you want, but hang in there. They will come!
I'm sorry to hear things things seem to be such a challenge though.

You say you're training, so you should be gaining a little muscle if your getting enough protein.
I understand that you want to get your weight down before focusing on adding a lot of muscle.
I'm sure you know this, but the scale is of the DEVIL! I hope you're taking measurements.
That may help you feel better, because some of that weight could be muscle mass.
Anyway, it really is important to get rid of as much fat as possible before you start getting into Anabolics and such.

You probably already know all of this considering you have Dr's and Coaches.
That's awesome! I wish i could afford all that help.

Anyway, I hope the Metformin helps. I'm curious to know how that goes.
I know it's not the same as insulin, but I'm still a little hesitant to try it.

Best of luck!

I have found metformin to be helpful after coming off a keto diet...............this is total bro science, but it seems to help deposit the carbs better. I have less bloat than normal. I am taking about 500mg with each major ( 100 g or more ) carb meal.
