One of the newest nootropic supplements on the market is methylliberine, most commonly seen as the branded Dynamine. Methylliberine is known as a methylurate, which differs structurally from methylxanthines(caffeine, theobromine) by having an oxo group on the 5 membered ring, and is more similar to theacrine(TeaCrine). The “methyl” part of methylliberine is the methoxy group in the bottom left of the molecule, which makes the molecule more lipid soluble and can more easily cross the blood-brain barrier. It’s naturally found in green coffee beans, teas, and kola nuts, just like caffeine(mostly Coffee robusta).
While there is not much on published studies yet, I speak to the owners of Dynamine quite often and they have some pharmacokinetic data showing it acts much more quickly than TeaCrine(which peaks in 2hr). They also say the mechanism of action is similar to caffeine by allosterically blocking the adenosine receptor, but claim it’s strictly neuro-active and doesn’t affect heart rate or blood pressure. Onset is about 15 min and peaks at about 60min. There are quite a few studies in the works, including combinations of Dynamine, TeaCrine and caffeine, as it’s been shown that TeaCrine can increase caffeine plasma levels. The suggested dosing is 100-200mg, with a lower dose needed if stacked with TeaCrine and caffeine.
I will say that I do like the combo of all 3, as I recently tried it at the Arnold last week. I do think there is merit to methylliberine on its own, and I’m very interested to see what the new studies show when they are published. Worth noting, in a powdered form, methylliberine is a 40% material like TeaCrine, but in capsules it is 100% pure. It’s extremely bitter!! I also suggest stacking with a choline source like alpha GPC, CDP-choline or DMAE.
