Pump Up for Summer With Dana Linn Bailey
By Steve Blechman

Dana Linn Bailey, known simply as “DLB” to her millions of fans around the world, has established herself as an icon in the fitness industry as an athlete, an entrepreneur, and a role model who has changed countless lives. That alone is justification for Dana to be on the cover of this month’s MD for our Pump Up for Summer Special. We are honored to showcase this fitness phenomenon, but the accolades for Dana don’t end there.

In 2011, Dana became the first pro in the new Women’s Physique division and went on in 2013 to be crowned its first Olympia champion. From the very start, she embraced YouTube and social media as platforms to grow her brand and spread her message of female empowerment and refusing to bend to the cultural ideas of what a woman should look and act like. Dana forged her own unique identity and established a community of like-minded followers who supported her Flag Nor Fail clothing brand. Though she only competed as a professional for a brief time, Dana became a fixture at fitness expos and conventions, with lines of fans wrapped around the building for a chance to meet her.

Now, nearly a decade after she retired, our own Ron Harris sat down to talk about any chances of a comeback, her thoughts on how the Women’s Physique division has evolved, and her new partnership as a spokesperson for Redcon1. Dana also addressed the persistent “natty or not debate” that’s swirled around her since the beginning, as well as her opinion on current gym culture and whether social media platforms like TikTok are harming it. Check it all out in “Dana Linn Bailey: Fitness Icon.”
