OK I wanted to start a separate thread for this to see if and what people get most relief from that have chronic back pain, without the use of pain meds or NSAIDS ( I can't take any NSAIDS due to my CKD)

Has anyone had significant relief with
Acupuncture?
Cupping?
Sports Chiropractors?
A monthly massage?
Jacuzzi?
Icing?
Trigger point injections?
Facet Blocks?
Ablations?

I already stretch every single day, and have been taking a lot of Tylenol last week as I elected to take myself off pain meds

Never been to the chiropractor, and the only thing I’ve used to alleviate back pain is massages/rolling, Hot and cold treatment and muscle relaxer pills. But all my back pains are muscle related. Is that your case or do you have slip/deteriorated disk or something?

Back pains are the worst bro. I feel for you dude

Team MeccaGear!

Had a 5-level fusion surgery on the lumbar region. Before the surgery the pain was excruciating.
Now my pain is gone. Training like I want to.

Chiropractors can help, but usually it's not a permanent fix. I have had an issue in my lower back since high school & also a herniated disc in my neck for a couple years now. I try to avoid movements or exercises that really bother it & do stretching movements that slightly help the pain. Do you even know what's wrong with it?

Have you heard of quackwatch.org? It's an awesome, award winning site run by a group of physicians. You ought to look up all of the "therapies" you mention in your initial post and see what the medical community thinks of these things.

Hey, wow thanks for the responses

Nair I will look that up

Lee, damn bro I have seen and been in on a lot of fusion, of all portions of the spine, that is some long ass screws in the sacral region, do they go into your pelvis??? Looks crazy, I would like to see the AP xray if you have it too

Bigbeef and Maj- I have transforaminal narrowing at L5 S1, a buldge at L5, I have facet syndrome around my T8 area, I had a neuro surgeon look at my MRI and said the muscles between my spine and shoulder blade (right side) were really agitated (although I know that goes to both sides, it sometimes is both, sometimes one or the other that's more irritated)

I thought that losing weight and stopping lifting a few years ago in exchange for Jiu Jitsu would help, but it didn't. I get pain into my side and anterior ribs from the back pain. Really wish I could take strong NSAIDS, but my chronic kidney disease will not even allow for ibuprofen. I am only 195 now at 5'9" dropped from 218, and I was lifting 4 to 6 days a week, now I do baby weights at home here and there and BJJ.

Hope u dont mind my adding the image directly to your thread brutha! It was so impressive i had to make sure everyone seen it!

Now the question is, how long were you out of commission from training, and do you feel whole again in the gym?

Presser, if you're talking about me it's fine. I do feel whole again in the gym.
Those screws(12) in the spine are 3 inch in length. I do have screws into my pelvic girdle.
Those are 4 inches in length. The only things I can't do is
1) round my back when using the ab crunch machine
2) doing really good hanging knee tucks for abs
3) work in the yard comfortably
4) doing some of the crazy fuck positions I used to do with my wife.
So, all in all I'm doing really good with it. Am I glad I went thru it? Lord yes! You guys just don't know the pain I was having prior to this surgery.

Oh! I was out of commission after surgery for 3 months and gradually added something each month thereafter. I'm sure I'm doing things I shouldn't be doing, but it's my back and my life.
God is good.

Wow.....I hope you're ok lee gaspari.

Chiropractor helped me a lot!
Physical therapy... not so much. It all depends on what problems you have.

I usually just need to adjust back/hip etc.

For years I went to a chiropractor. He said my hips were tilted causing my back pain. He said thru adjustments it will be corrected and fixed. Then I went to a close friend of mine who is an orthopedic surgeon. He took an X-ray and saw that my discs in the lumbar were completely gone.
Called DDD -Degenerative Disc Disease. He referred me to a back surgeon and that was all she wrote - surgery was a must.
Dont get me wrong, chiropractors can do great things. And they have helped me thru other issues. This time was just a whole different ball game.

Swimming and Pilates reformer help most. Ive had 4 back surgeries and would never let them touch me again. I have zero pain most days.

The system is so jacked up that It is absolutely not working in my favor so far.
I have been trying to get trigger point injections, I am cash pay, 15 years healthcare work, keep that in mind. 1 doc wants 250 for just the office visit, 75 for a drug screen, even though I do not want drugs, and prescribed drugs but have not taken them for two weeks, thus is much more pain, and looking for an alternative so I never have to take them again, all on my own accord, 75 for a greenlight test? no Idea what that even is, and one more like 65 dollar charge.
Soooo
That is $465 and they won't do the injection that apt, so add another $250 and about $200 for the injection I am at $915 for something that may not work at all, may work for a week, or may work for 4-6 months...

Another Dr I called down south wants $500 just for the visit and $200 for the injection, and also probably would not inject on that same appt.

Do you see why I would rather find whichever steroid plus numbing agent they use in that shot from India before I do this.
In the mean time I am not allowed to have NSAIDS like I stated but I am taking them yesterday and today or abusing Tylenol .....

I feel for you brutha, i really do, and like i said before, been there done that, and its the kinda pain that words do no just for!

As for all that out of pocket money, thats because its alternative correct? As im assuming 15 years in the hospital that you have health insurance right.

I cant stress this enough, so i will say it again, Losing weight was the best thing i ever did for my back which allowed me to put off the c4-c7 fusion surgery.

Truth be told, it helped my knees as well (my losing weight) but it looks like im going to need my knees replaced before anything else, idk.

Lee, Great to hear you feel whole again daddio! I could of done without the chubby i got midpost Imagining you fucking your wife every which way, but suppose you needed to be thorough ay! lol

and Lee, how is it to bend down, like touch your toes from standing position?

Yeah I mean I am down 25 pounds, and 15 years in healthcare and no insurance brutha. It would be literally 1000 a month for a family plan, or 478 a month for just me due to my Chronic kidney disease and chronic back pain. In all honesty the hospital system that I injured my back with, broke my wrist , and had an inguinal hernia for, should pay for my shit. The kicker is they HAVE their own insurance and you would think I would get a discount under these circumstances (I do not work for them currently, but I have about a decade collectively for them as well as live long injuries)

A huge quam I have is the military gets free healthcare bc they are 100% reimbursed by the Govt, healthcare is about 75% reimbursed by the Gov't and I can't even get an affordable insurance...... Makes zero sense. I have worked under bomb threats, active shooter coming to the building, threats that everyone in my specific dept were going to be killed, etc not being able to even slow my production down, but how is it paid back? Just funny to me. I don't need anything for free but If you work for fuckin Ford you get a discount, work for ATT you get a discount, work for the Military a multitude of discounts, work for healthcare and you get to suck a potato out of an obese persons anus.

Have you given any thought about CBD? I had some minor lower back pain awhile back and sure enough CBD oil helped out.

Hey yeah I tried the CBD oil like a year ago, I had no relieve. I am still trucking along taking Tylenol, advil, icing, rolling my back and taking a muscle relaxer here and there, and I already stretch every day. I may try to get a massage once a month and see if that helps
