Partials for pumps...

big in vegas

I was talking to my buddy that swears by only doing full reps, but I was trying to tell him that partials have their place I use them to keep the muscle flexed throughout the movement which allows me to get a good pump. I don't do them every set, but maybe just once or twice a workout

I'm a fan of partials here and there too... the pump is great from them I use them towards the end of my workout when things can get "sloppy" in order to maximize my workout, increase constriction time, and induce maximum breakdown/fatigue... They have a place for sure. "turning around" during a movement can cause intense muscle activity and fires more muscle fibers then just a general flexion and extension workout. That being said, I would believe this does make them more effective for fast twitch muscle activity then it does for real size though. Every little bit helps.

Man I LOVE partials!! I do them every arm workout. It's harder on things like chest and legs, but if you get the weight and the movement right the pump is so sick that it can turn a crappy workout into an awesome one!

The example I like to use to emphasize this point is doing chin ups (under hand grip on the bar), but only coming down to a 90 degree bend in your elbow. This allows the biceps to remain flexed the entire time and makes this one of the best bicep builders IMO

I'm with you 100% OP.. I love incorporating partials into my workouts. those final reps(partial reps) of your last set or two can help get you past the point of what most refer to as failure... You haven't hit complete failure til you cant move the bar AT ALL!!!
Like you stated, I don't use these for every set either.. in fact not even for every exercise... I do overtrain easily if I push it to that point too often, but they DEFINITELY have their place in my arsenal of training techniques/principles, in order to push the muscle past it's limits!!!

partials can most definetly 100% help and be effective. and there a great intensity booster as well to help push a set well beyond initial failure. I read a great piece from mountaindog not to long ago on partials and how helpful they are. forgot where i read it otherwise id post it. But for future reference always try things urself. everyones different and bodys react differently remember that. wut may not work for me may work for u and vice versa
