Powerlifter Rudy Kadlub cannot be stopped. The 73-year-old took to his Instagram page on Nov. 22, 2022, to share a video wherein he squatted a staggering 206.4 kilograms (455 pounds) with knee wraps. According to Open Powerlifting, that mark is 1.4 kilograms (3.1 pounds) heavier than his current International Powerlifting League (IPL) all-time squat world record of 205 kilograms (452 pounds) in the Masters 70-74 division.
Kadlub performed the unofficial IPL world record squat wearing a lifting belt in a monolift and used a Kabuki Strength squat bar. Per his post caption, he executed the lift despite tightness in his shoulder, though he did not need assistance to get into position under the bar. Check out Kadlub’s squat below:

Kadlub has been stellar on the competitive platform and in the gym over the past two years. He set four world records at the IPL World Championships in 2021 and then eclipsed those lifts several times during his training in 2022.
On April 11, 2022, Kadlub hauled a 237.2-kilogram (523-pound) deadlift on his 73rd birthday. A month later, he loaded 195 kilograms (430 pounds) on the barbell and squatted it for a double. The most notable squat in the gym by Kadlub, aside from the one in the above video, is the last time he lifted over his IPL squat world record. On May 17, 2022, Kadlub locked out 206 kilograms (454 pounds). Check it out below:

Kadlub’s 2022 season is not yet over. According to his post’s caption, his next competition is the United States Powerlifting Association (USPA) Oregon State Championships on Dec. 3, 2022, in Newport, Oregon. If his competitive resume is any indication, that event will see Kadlub stand atop the podium.
Kadlub hasn’t missed gold in a sanctioned meet since the 2012 World Powerlifting Championships (WPC) World Championships, where he failed to lock out a 250-kilogram (551.2-pound) squat after three attempts. Omitting that contest and Kadlub hasn’t missed a first-place finish since the 2010 American Powerlifting Federation (APF) Amateur & Raw Nationals, where he ranked seventh overall.
We’ll see if Kadlub’s unofficial world record squat in the gym is indicative of a new chapter in the IPL record books in December.
