My traps suck and want to know what type of shrugs yah do and how many sets and reps is normal for an average workout?

I've brought mine up tremendously, I just do lightweight and tons of reps. I'll do shrugs (either DB or barbell) with my head facing the ceiling then the next set with my chin to my chest. I'll alternate this way for 2-3 sets per positioning. I've also been doing a lot of face pulls on the lat pulldown machine and really focusing on the contraction of my rear delts and traps

Bar behind shrug, or get on hack squat and load that bitch up and do shrugs, or get on standing calf raises and do shrugs.

I do them because I don't have a super strong grip and I can't do as many reps as I want to or it take too long to drop the weight.

With hack squat(or even better the standing calf raises) it's much easier to drop the weight and do some more reps and you don't have to worry about your grip strength.

i love trap excercise my new favorite is getting dumbells on my side and doing like upright row also like superset shrugs with bar and plate its light weight but do 20 front side then turn around and do 20 more then turn back around do 20 or 15 then turn around do 15 or 10 and so on and so forth until i cant do anymore

I do a crap load of shrugs.. On heavy days i do them on back days . And on lighter weight with high reps i do them on shoulder days.. Shrugs ate on of my favs ...

Love shrugs on the smith with the bar behind me, leaning slightly forward and then bringing my traps to my ears, then super set with the same reverse grip and do a version up right row but again bar behind you, lean forward and this time bringing elbows up and that KILLS them, burns good.
