"Tell those Nutrients Where To Go":
It might seem like a simpleton phrase, but it's a prompt I very often use with clients, especially those that are newer to the lifestyle. On the surface, we've kind of glazed over what is needed to gain muscle tissue. Too many people just think we eat in a surplus, get some training in, and weight increases are going to mean more muscle.
Sadly, those that go about things half-heartedly come down after these periods and often see very little improvement, because they haven't directed where your body should utilize that caloric surplus; to ever increasing training intensity, and to repair and growth of muscle tissue. Basically, you can't train like a turd. A gaining phase should be one based AROUND progressive overload and keeping tension ever progressive, not one of going through the motions and thinking increased weight=more muscle. Your body won't mind one bit storing that excess as fat if you don't tell it otherwise.
Women in particular...please do not be scared to lift heavy and be intense in the gym. You aren't going to turn into a she-hulk, and the only way your physique is going to improve is if you do so. So many are scared to death of the scale...if you aren't lifting hard, maybe you should be....however if you're putting the work in, welcome those steady increases.
