Peptide Spotlight: PT-141

In this week’s peptide spotlight, we’re going to look at PT-141, which is one of the most effective peptides for treating erectile dysfunction and increasing sexual arousal in both men and women.

PT-141, also known as bremelanotide, works by activating the melanocortin 4 receptor (MC-4R) in the central nervous system, which increases sexual arousal.

It’s a synthetic derivative of Melanotan II and was initially developed to increase skin pigmentation by stimulating melanocytes to induce melanogenesis.

However, due to its powerful ability to improve sexual arousal and pleasure, PT-141 quickly gained a reputation for treating erectile dysfunction by increasing arousal in the brain.

It’s one of the few treatments that increases arousal, while most ED treatments focus on improving blood flow.

And the best part?

PT-141 is FDA-approved to treat low sex drive in women, under the brand name Vyleesi. This is a very safe, legal peptide that can be prescribed by a doctor.

Men can also benefit from using this peptide, though it’s not FDA-approved for use in men, so it may be difficult to find a physician willing to prescribe to men.

You can also order PT-141 directly from research sites like Sports Technology Labs, which is currently running a buy 2, get 1 free special for Black Friday.

The Superfood That Boosts Your Mood

According to a new study in Nutrients, eating more strawberries in middle age can help protect against cognitive decline and depression.

We’re all about longevity and optimal health over here, and when something this simple makes an impact, it’s always worth mentioning.

Especially when it involves adding more delicious food, rather than restricting something.

The study focused on anthocyanins, which are water-soluble flavonoids found in a variety of red and blue fruits and vegetables.

Strawberries, blueberries, grapes, apples, plums, and red cabbage are all excellent sources–basically, any plant with a red, blue, or purple color.

The study had participants consume one packet of freeze-dried strawberry powder mixed with a beverage, the nutritional equivalent of eating one cup of strawberries.

Those who consumed the strawberries had lower incidents of depression and improved cognitive functioning.

Now, while this study used strawberries, researchers believe the effects come from the anti-inflammatory properties of anthocyanins, so it’s likely that consuming any of the blue, purple, or red berries will have a benefit.

Of all the ways to minimize depression and improve mental functioning, adding 1 cup of berries per day is certainly an easy method, and a great habit to pick up as we head into the dark winter months, which can increase seasonal depression.

Not to mention, a serving of fruit is a great way to take in more vitamins, minerals, and anti-oxidants.

Research Corner: New Study Finds Exercise Makes You Smarter

A new meta-analysis looked at the impact of various types of exercise on cognitive function, specifically looking at the type of exercise, and the age of the participant.

We’ve long known that regular exercise is good for our overall health, including our cognitive health, but it was hard to say exactly which kind of exercise is best.

The meta-analysis looked at 54 randomized controlled trials with a total of 6,277 participants. Researchers found that all parts of cognitive function improve with exercise, including global cognition, executive function, memory, attention, and information processing.

The largest impact was seen in individuals over 60, but even healthy adults and children saw improvements in cognitive function from exercise.

And what kind of exercise?

It was pretty much a tie between aerobic exercise and resistance training, both of which were found to improve overall brain function.

They found that mind-body exercise, like tai-chi and yoga, did improve memory, but didn’t have quite as much of an impact on cognitive function.

The takeaway?

We should all be doing a combination of resistance and aerobic training each week to keep our brains running as efficiently as possible.
