The welterweight fight was bumped up to the co-main event when a featherweight title fight between champ Alexander Volkanosvki and Brian Ortega was called off when Volkanosvki tested positive for COVID-19.
Woodley enters the fight after a steep career slide in which he lost the welterweight title in a lopsided affair against current champ Kamaru Usman, then suffered losses to Gilbert Burns and Colby Covington. The former welterweight champ not only added those setbacks to his resume, but hasn’t won a round in his previous 14 rounds of fighting, leading to questions about his future with another loss.
In Luque, Woodley has an opponent that will force the issue either way. Known as a technically efficient and brutal striker, the Brazilian has only fallen short in three of his 15 octagon appearances and has earned 11 of his 12 wins by stoppage.
