Photo by Jeff Bottari/Zuffa LLC Calvin Kattar displayed an incredible amount of guts and fortitude that allowed him to survive more than 400 strikes from Max Holloway over five rounds in the UFC Fight Island 7 main event.
Unfortunately that kind of durability usually comes at a cost to the body and that’s why Kattar is potentially looking at a lengthy layoff following his unanimous decision loss.
On Monday, the medical suspensions from UFC Fight Island 7 were released with Kattar looking at a possible six-month layoff as a result of the injuries suffered during the 25-minute battle with Holloway.
According to the official release from MMA.tv, who are the official record keepers for the Association of Boxing Commissions, Kattar was suspended six months or until he gets medical clearance from a doctor for his nose. It appeared after the fight with Holloway ended that Kattar suffered a broken nose but he was rushed to a local medical facility in Abu Dhabi so no further update has been made regarding his condition.
As for Holloway, he’s staring at just a 30 day suspension with 21 days no contact after his lopsided victory in the main event.
The only other fighter competing on the card who is looking at a similar suspension is heavyweight Justin Tafa, who is also looking at a potential six-month layoff unless cleared by a physician with a negative x-ray for his left thumb. Tafa went to war with fellow heavyweight Carlos Felipe on the preliminary card with the Brazilian ultimately gutting out a split decision win.
