The jiu-jitsu specialist picked up one of the most impressive victories at Saturday’s UFC Vegas 23 event, finishing Nina Ansaroff with a slick armbar submission in the first round of their main card bout. Dern’s finish earned her a $50,000 Performance of the Night bonus, but she’s also facing a potentially lengthy injury suspension.
According to the list of medical suspensions released Tuesday by mixedmartialarts.com, Dern requires an X-ray on her right thumb. Should the results turn out to be positive, she will need clearance from an orthopedic doctor or be out of action until Oct. 8.
Five others are facing similar suspensions pending further examination and clearance: Arnold Allen (left hand), Julian Marquez (right hand), Jim Miller (left foot), John Makdessi (right cheekbone, right foot), and Ignacio Bahamondes (nose, left hand).
Main event middleweights Marvin Vettori and Kevin Holland escaped with minimal injury. Both are only suspended until May 2 due to cuts over their left eyebrows.

John Makdessi: Must receive clearance from OMF (oral and maxillofacial) doctor for subtle non-displaced fracture of right zygomatic arch and from orthopedic doctor for right foot displaced fracture second metatarsal or no contest until Oct. 8; minimum suspension no contest until May 26, no contact until May 11
Ignacio Bahamodes: Must receive clearance from ENT (ear, nose, and throat) doctor on positive result from X-ray on nose and from orthopedic doctor on positive result from X-ray on left hand or no contest until Oct. 8, minimum suspension no contest until May 26, no contact until May 11
