Vitamin D3 has a multitude of health benefits, including increasing testosterone levels in older populations. However, I think that most people have been supplementing with D3 in a subpar manner. This study, a meta-analysis, compares the healthy individuals taking different amounts of D3 to see optimum effects on elevating plasma D3 levels.
The study concluded that a bolus (large single dose) seemed to have the greatest effect on D3 uptake and saturation. Researchers found that taking a very large dose, over 300,000 IU at a time are most effective for elevating parathyroid hormone(PTH) vs lower doses. PTH is responsible for the loss of calcium in bones, as well as proliferation of so as you can see it's quite important. So if you're vitamin D3 pills come in 10,000 IU, you would need to take 30 pills. As for frequency, seems to work best every 7-10 days. MY EXPERIENCE: I normally take a bolus of 10,000IU every 5-7 Days, not 300,000IU. Food for thought.
