Whole food or shake preworkout

Im sure timing is gonna be most important here but I havent been getting enough protein preworkout I don't think. I am going to start with a shake 45 minutes out. I usually have eaten whole food 2 hours before and am pretty sure this is the reason I keep going hypo.
 
I usually drink a shake as it doesnt slow me down in the gym. But I work out later so I do have some solid food earlier in the day.
 
i have a shake about an hour before, and whole meal maybe 2-3 hours before


i like the shake prior, coz i find i can train alot harder with a full stomach
 
I was just reading an article stating that you want the whole meal before the workout bc it has protiens and carbs that take longer to digest therefore giving you the energy you need at the gym, than it said shake for post bc u want it to be quickly digested so u can get the nutrients to your body quick b4 it starts taking it from the muscle tissue. Seemed like a pretty good article, I probably could have worded that all better but I was going off of memory but that was the jist
