There are three main styles of training:
heavy strength day where you lift 4-6 reps and have long rest,
hypertrophy where you train 8-15 reps with 30-90s rest,
and monster reps where you lift 20+ reps and only 30s between sets!
-
The fatigue these workouts cause is very different. If you lift heavy your brain and spinal cord are very taxed. In fact, you may feel tired the next day. If you do hypertrophy your volume is high and muscle damage is also high. You are more sore, but may not be fatigued in the head like a strength day. Then there is the monster rep day; this will cause a lot of depletion of muscle carb stores but not cause a lot of central fatigue or muscle damage.
-
It usually takes 48-72 hours to recover from a strength and hypertrophy day and 24 to recover from a monster rep day.
