Strongman Mitchell “The Moose” Hooper has been in a media frenzy since becoming the first Canadian to win the World’s Strongest Man (WSM) title on April 23, 2023, in Myrtle Beach, SC. Hooper has also doubled down on his online presence, becoming even more active on his social media and YouTube channel. The latter of which included a recent collaboration with fitness influencer Will Tennyson.
Hooper has arguably had the most miraculous rookie season in pro strongman history, highlighted by his 2023 WSM win and his 2023 Arnold Strongman Classic title. Hooper is known for his intellectual approach and commitment to flawless technique in each event.
Tennyson joined Hooper for a strongman training session for a video published on June 1, 2023, on Tennyson’s YouTube channel. Check it out below:

The video opens with Hooper and Tennyson heading to a restaurant for breakfast. Although they didn’t reveal the exact details of their hearty breakfast, it included sausages, eggs, bacon, baked potatoes, pancakes (heaps of them), maple syrup, and coffee. The volume of calories necessary to maintain the higher body weight of elite strongmen and their heavier training in the gym lends itself to diets consisting of foods that would typically be considered cheat meals for competitive bodybuilders.
“I think Strongman is my sport,” says Tennyson after a generous pancake bite. “It’s really convenient,” adds Hooper.
After breakfast, Hooper popped open his car’s trunk to reveal his 2023 WSM and 2023 Arnold Strongman trophies, the most prestigious and second-most prestigious title in the sport. Hooper is the fourth man to win the Barry Frank and Louis Cyr trophies in the same year. The other three are four-time WSM champs Brian Shaw and Žydr?nas Savickas and 2018 WSM winner Hafþór “Thor” Björnsson.
The World’s Strongest Workout
After a quick gym tour, Hooper and Tennyson begin their training session comprised of four events:
Yoke Walk
The pair start with a 185-pound yoke, move to 320 pounds for the second set, and tackle 410 pounds on the third set. “This is really intimidating for me right now,” confesses Tennyson before his fourth set at 500 pounds. The fitness influencer only made it halfway down the course, while the 2023 WSM sprinted with the same weight on his back.
Hooper increased the load to 770 pounds for his next set. Tennyson couldn’t move the yoke at that weight but managed to lift the yoke off the floor. Tennyson could not budge the 940-pound yoke, which was a routine weight for Hooper. The Canadian finished the yoke session with a 1,000-pound carry.
Log Press
Tennyson opened the log press training by locking out 165 pounds overhead. Hooper opened at 255 pounds for a double. Tennyson attempted 185 pounds for his second lift, failing his first attempt but locking out his second.
“Oh, that’s scary!” exclaims the YouTuber after putting down the log. Tennyson increased his log weight to 210 pounds. He successfully lapped it and cleaned it to the front rack position but failed to complete the press overhead. The 27-year-old Hooper crushed 340 pounds for his second and final set.
Push Press
Tennyson set things in motion with a 185-pound push press. Hooper, on the other hand, pressed 225 pounds for his first set. The YouTuber matched the WSM champ for their second set and hoisted 225 pounds. Tennyson finished with a 245-pound push press PR.
Hooper was far from finished, destroying 275 pounds on his second set, 315 pounds on his third, 365 pounds on his fourth, 405 pounds on his fifth, and 455 pounds on his final set.
Atlas Stones
Like is often the case in strongman contests, the Atlas Stones finished the session. Tennyson began with a one-pound stone, whereas the 2023 WSM winner loaded a 250-pound stone on its respective pedestal. The YouTuber tries to match The Moose but called it a day after failing to lift the stone off the ground.
The Way Forward
Although Hooper has won the two most prestigious strongman titles in the same calendar year, he is far from finished. The Moose has his eyes set on winning the 2023 Shaw Classic, scheduled for Aug. 19-20, 2023, the roster of which he is already confirmed for, and more than likely the 2023 Rogue Strongman Invitational, scheduled for Oct. 27 – 29, 2023, of which an official roster has not yet been released for.
Will Hooper become the first athlete to win all four tentpole strongman competitions in the same year? His track record suggests he is certainly capable.
