I made mistake one time, put on the hip hop station, everything was F this, F that, it lasted about 30 minAnything but that rap crap. That is not music.
Suicide Silence - SuperBeast (Rob Zombie Cover)Since I'm not a great fan of leg day (old bastard) I find Rob Zombie gets me through.....
When working out by myself in my home gym or at the company gym (which is normal for me), I usually train in silence. Occasionally I'll put some music on, and if so it's something I like to listen to: Stevie Ray Vaughn; Allman Bros; Molly Hatchet; Waylon Jennings... Just a few examples. Maybe Aerosmith; Rush; Led Zeppelin..... Old Country like Don Miller (King of the Road, for example); Dave Dudley; Johnny Cash... You get the idea - well, you probably get the idea if you're old enough... LOL!
The first gym I ever belonged to was an old, dingy, hardcore bodybuilding gym called Mans World Gym in Trenton, NJ. Joe Dodd, the owner, played the local "top 40" station which generally had music playing that in most cases I couldn't stand. But it served as background music and actually sort of helped me focus on my training because I did the best I could to tune it out. All the music did was fill the empty space between the iron plates clanking and the grunting and chatter.
I'm going to verr slightly off topic: I was just visiting friends in Vegas and trained at LVAC where a good buddy of mine belongs. They of course have music playing - I have no idea what because I tune it out the best I can, like I described above. But, SO MANY PEOPLE walk around with headphones or earbuds, listening to whatever they want. I get that, like i said, I don't like what's playing over the gym's system either. However, the headphones have the effect of everybody being totally in their own world and largely completely self absorbed. The place is mobbed; just about every piece of equipment is being used; a situation like that pretty much demands that people interact; ask to "work in" so 2 or 3 guys (or girls or guy/girl) can use the same piece of equipment at the same time. I mean, why the fuck not? You have to rest between sets anyway, why not have another guy do his sets while you rest? Yet this is impossible because of the whole isolated, self absorbed sound bubble thing. People get annoyed if they have to pull their earbud out to interact. WTF? There must be 1,000 people in this gym! No shit, it's fucking enormous and CROWDED! And people expect to go to a place like that and not interact and share equipment??? I don't get it.....
I know most people here are going to disagree with me, but put the fucking headphones and earbuds away!
Ok, rant over.....
Totally understand, but I use headphones/earbuds to keep myself from socializing. Without them I overhear conversation that I join ( I like talking to people) or people come out of the blue and talk to me in the middle of a set. If I didn't have earbuds I could be in the gym for 3 hours and never get a pump going. I still smile at people and answer question or talk to my friend in between sets, but I try to keep my conversations to 1-2 minutes at the most or I have to warm up all over again.
Bottom line is dicks are dicks weither they have headphone on or not!!
