The International Powerlifting Federation (IPF) 2023 World University Powerlifting Cup (WUC) will be held in Kranjska Gora, Slovenia, from Oct. 31 to Nov. 4, 2023. A total of 177 lifters from universities worldwide will clash for individual medals and collegiate bragging rights.
Each country can nominate lifters from as many universities as they wish. Still, each university can only nominate a maximum of eight women and eight men, with no more than two athletes in the same weight class.
The entire contest will be live-streamed for free on the Powerlifting Slovenia YouTube channel. The full roster with nominated totals is available on Goodlift.
The IPF introduced University Cups in 2016. For the first time in 2024, powerlifting will be included in the Fédération Internationale du Sport Universitaire (FISU) University World Championships, which will be held in Tartu, Estonia.
This is expected to lead to powerlifting’s inclusion in the FISU World University Games, also known as the Universiade. It is a multi-sport event held every two years in cities around the world in which thousands of students compete in a range of sports.
The IPF has made great progress in showcasing powerlifting at global multi-sport events. In 2025, for the first time, raw powerlifting will be included at The World Games, to be held in Chengdu, China, in July 2025. This expands the powerlifting program at The World Games, as equipped lifting has been included since the Games’ inception.
Powerlifting will also be included at future International Masters Games Association (IMGA) Masters World Games.
