Laura Horvath’s 2023 Rogue Invitational Performance
Horvath was a pillar of consistency at the Dell Diamond Stadium. Aside from one outlier in Event Four, Horvath never finished worse than fifth in any event and scored three event wins — that’s a third of the events contested. Below are Horvath’s event results:
- Event One “Texas Heavy” — Fourth place
- Event Two “Seat at the Bar” — Second place
- Event Three “The Circus” — First place
- Event Four “10th Inning” — 14th place
- Event Five “The Duel III” — Second place
- Event Six “Max Deadlift” — Third place
- Event Seven “Hulk Hands” — First place
- Event Eight “Big Cat”— Fifth place
- Event Nine — First place
Toomey-Orr had a similarly consistent performance, having only a single finish outside the top five. However, Horvath scored one more event win than the six-time Fittest Woman on Earth®, and that was enough to close the deal at the end of the final day of competition.
One of the most memorable moments of awareness by Horvath came in Event Eight when a final sprint to the finish line against Emma Cary was a critical juncture in the standings. Toomey-Orr had already crossed the finish line for second-place points, and Horvath needed to provide some damage control.
By two-hundredths of a second, Horvath broke through the finish line ahead of Cary to keep Horvath and Toomey in a dead draw entering the final event. Had Horvath failed to win that sprint, Toomey would have had a rank to give in Event Nine to secure the overall title. Ultimately, Horvath won the overall title by 10 points (or two total ranks worth of points) — the tightest margin in the Individual Women’s contests in years.
While Toomey-Orr has plenty of off-season to regain her fitness even further post-pregnancy, the 2023 Rogue Invitational was arguably the best preview for the exciting 2024 CrossFit season soon to get underway in the first quarter of 2024.
