Chris Bumstead’s Epic Chest Day Under Hany Rambod’s Coaching Ahead of 2023 Olympia

Chris Bumstead’s Epic Chest Day Under Hany Rambod’s Coaching Ahead of 2023 Olympia

Chris Bumstead’s professional bodybuilding career is probably nearing its end. He plans to walk away from the sport with a few more Olympia wins and leave a lasting legacy. However, the idea of retirement has not wavered his focus even a little bit as one can see in his recent chest training session.
Chris Bumstead, fondly known as CBum, is a Canadian IFBB Pro bodybuilder. He is the reigning Classic Physique Olympia champion and has won the competition four consecutive times – in 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022. He was also a runner-up at the 2017 and 2018 Olympia. The 28-year-old is a global bodybuilding star and is credited for putting the Classic Physique division on the ‘must watch’ list.
Having grown under the guidance of his longtime friend and IFBB Pro bodybuilder Iain Valliere, Bumstead conquered the highest peak of competitive achievements. But a few months before the 2022 Olympia, the duo announced that Valliere will no longer train the Classic Physique champ to be able to focus on his own bodybuilding career in the Men’s Open division.
CBum has trained under Hany Rambod‘s tutelage since then, securing the third successful defense of the Classic Physique Olympia title at the 2022 Olympia. Although Bumstead and Valliere have parted ways as the client and coach, they are close friends and recently partnered for a shoulder workout as well.
After recovering from a bicep tear suffered heading into the 2022 Olympia, Chris Bumstead made maximum progress in the off-season with meticulously planned workout splits and a 3700-calorie diet. He has now started the competition prep in a bid to secure fifth straight Classic Physique Olympia title and looks primed to emerge victoriously again.

Chris Bumstead goes through the first chest workout of the 2023 Olympia prep
The Canadian bodybuilder tackled the first chest training session of his 2023 Olympia prep under Hany Rambod’s guidance and posted the video on his YouTube channel. So let’s check out the details of this training session.
Cable Crossover
While most people perceive cable crossover as just another pump-inducing movement to end the workout, it has a lot more to offer. As per studies, crossover ranks among the top three exercises in terms of pectoral muscle activation. So it makes for an excellent option to start the workout and warm up the muscles before heading into the heavier compound movements. CBum executed some good sets of cable crossover to get things started.
Flat Bench Dumbbell Press
CBum then advanced to doing a common and effective compound exercise next. He explained to the coach that the flat bench press puts more stress on his shoulder. As a result, he has been putting more emphasis on incline movements. To reduce the stress on the shoulders, Rambod advised Bumstead to start with flat bench press using light weights before jumping into the incline movements. CBum pushed through a few sets keeping the bench at a very slight incline angle and took to the incline movement next.

Incline Bench Dumbbell Press
Incline movements put more emphasis on the clavicular head of the pectoral muscles, known commonly as the upper pecs. Hany Rambod instructed CBum to perform a few sets of incline bench presses with hammer grip. This modification is a safer alternative to the pronated grip dumbbell press as it protects the shoulder joint.
Additionally, it increases the range of motion. This enables the pectoral muscles to get a good stretch at the bottom of the movement. CBum followed the instructions and performed a couple of sets with hammer grip. He then finished the rest of the sets with regular pronated grip to wrap up the free weight work for the day.
Seated Chest Press Machine
Bumstead took to the seated machine chest press next. He performed the exercise on the plate loaded machine. Using the machine is a great way to minimize the setup and eliminate stabilization. It is often the case with free weight exercises. CBum got a few sets of machine chest press under his belt with incrementally heavier weights. He then proceeded to do different variations of it.

Incline Chest Press Machine
Bumstead next took to the incline chest press on an iso-lateral plate-loaded machine. It offers similar benefits as the regular machine chest press but mimics the free-weight incline pressing movement. Needless to say, it emphasizes the upper pecs more than the other parts of pectoral muscles. After surviving some solid sets of the movement, the the champ took to the final pressing movement of the day.
Decline Chest Press Machine
While the incline pressing movements emphasize the upper pecs, decline pressing movements focus more on the lower pecs. Bumstead dealt with a few good sets of decline chest presses on the machine and jumped into the finisher.
Pec Deck Flyes
Unlike the pressing movements that improve the upper body pushing strength, flyers help develop the adduction strength. Pec deck flyes are one of the most effective movements for pectoral muscle activation. Bumstead capped the training session with a few sets of this isolation movement.

Overall, the workout included:

Chris Bumstead went through the 2022 Olympia prep with a number of issue. He is in a much better position at the beginning of his 2023 Olympia prep. As long as he stays healthy and maintains focus and intensity, his chances of becoming a five-time champion are high.

Ronnie Coleman and Arnold Schwarzenegger Join Hands for Legendary Training Session

Ronnie Coleman and Arnold Schwarzenegger Join Hands for Legendary Training Session

Legendary bodybuilder Ronnie Coleman is widely regarded as one of the greatest competitors of all time. His unmatched dedication to lifting heavy weights made him stand out from the crowd. In a recent post made on Instagram, Coleman pushed bodybuilding icon Arnold Schwarzenegger to his limits in an intense outdoor workout.
Ronnie Coleman first rose to prominence for his mass, size, and granite conditioning as a Men’s Open competitor in the late 90s. After the departure of six-time champion Dorian Yates, the mass monster found glory at the 1998 Mr. Olympia by defeating the likes of Kenneth ‘Flex’ Wheeler, Kevin Levrone, and Shawn Ray. Coleman proved to be a commanding champion as he warded off future titleholders Jay Cutler and Dexter Jackson to win Mr. Olympia shows eight years in a row.
Besides his insane physique, Coleman was known for his incredible feats of strength, earning him the title of the strongest bodybuilder of all time. He recorded a huge 800-lb deadlift and squat for two reps each and pushed a 2,300 pounds leg press for reps. However, the heavy lifts came with a cost. Coleman picked up several injuries which required multiple surgeries. Despite the troubles, he continued to train regularly and made it clear he has no regrets.
Coleman attributes his injuries to his days of playing football instead of bodybuilding. He admits he dealt with back problems and partially herniated a disc in college before competing on stage. Lately, Coleman got stem cell therapy and reported positive updates to his health.
His pain has almost subsided completely and while he may not be at his best, he never lets it hold him back from training. The 59-year-old revealed he cut down on painkillers by 50 percent after staying consistent with the stem cell treatments. As for his nerve damage, improvements are expected to happen over the next two years.
‘The King’ lauded former 212 Olympia champion Derek Lunsford for his immense potential in the game after he shocked the world with a runner-up placing in the Open class at 2022 Mr. Olympia. Then, he ranked Lunsford as his favorite bodybuilder of this generation.

Ronnie Coleman’s impact on the sport can be felt to this day. Fellow bodybuilding legend Jay Cutler and renowned coach Milos Sarcev praised Coleman and argued he could hold his own in any generation with his prime physique. Cutler went as far as to say no other competitor came close to Coleman’s level.
Arnold Schwarzenegger remains fit after stepping away from professional competition. He likes incorporating both cardio and weight training to improve skin health. He also offered a fan-favorite circuit workout using a weighted bag that could fit in with any schedule.
Ronnie Coleman Pushes Arnold Schwarzenegger to His Limits in Intense Outdoor Workout
In a recent Instagram post, Ronnie Coleman helped motivate Arnold Schwarzenegger to push beyond his limits in an intense outdoor workout session.
“We all need training partners to help us reach our potential,” wrote Schwarzenegger. “I know Franco was looking down on @ronniecoleman8 pushing me today and smiling.”
“Franco is smiling down from heaven,” said Schwarzenegger. “He’s saying, ‘Finally, Arnold found a good replacement for me.’ That’s what Franco’s saying right now, ‘finally, a good replacement, a good training partner.’”
“Yep, c’mon. Light weight baby!” Coleman said.

Ronnie Coleman struggled with walking unassisted due to some surgery complications. While he does feel less pain since getting on stem cell therapy, he hasn’t experienced a significant improvement in his mobility and expressed concerns about atrophy in his lower body recently.

Rich Gaspari Bashes Young Lifters Using ‘Dangerous’ Amounts of Steroids: ‘It’s A Big Problem’

Rich Gaspari Bashes Young Lifters Using ‘Dangerous’ Amounts of Steroids: ‘It’s A Big Problem’

Bodybuilding veteran Rich Gaspari has a sharp eye for talent based on his decades of experience in the sport. While he no longer competes, he remains active in the community with hot takes. In a recent Instagram post, Gaspari criticized young lifters for using steroids at the beginning of their fitness journey.
Rich Gaspari first gained attention for his insane mass, size, and refined lower-body muscle development in the Men’s Open division in the mid-80s. His dry conditioning coupled with striated glutes made him stand out from the competition. While he did not find Olympia glory, Gaspari took a bronze medal in his Mr. Olympia debut and earned three silvers to eight-time champion Lee Haney. He created history by becoming the first Arnold Classic winner and got inducted into the IFBB Hall of Fame in 2004.
Gaspari has been a vocal critic of the Open division in the last few years. As a talented poser, he considers bodybuilding an art form and not a sport due to its subjective nature. However, he sees a lack of artistic focus with more athletes favoring sheer muscle mass instead of posing.
‘The Dragon Slayer’ highlighted the rise in the popularity of trenbolone in the fitness space. While he admitted the compound could lead to significant gains, he warned about its use due to the damage it wreaks on the liver and cardiovascular system. He added tren use could lead to anger issues for even the nicest person.

Gaspari fired shots at modern bodybuilders for not paying enough attention to their calves. He left the fans stunned with a throwback clip where he showed off his massive calves while crushing an intense training session. He suggested training the muscle group three times a week with high volume and heavy weights.
Rich Gaspari reckons Chris Bumstead would need to put on 40 pounds to have a shot in the Men’s Open division. He praised the four-time Classic Physique Olympia winner’s symmetry and backed him to defend the title successfully at the 2023 Mr. Olympia. However, he criticized ‘CBum’s’ arm development and muscle density when compared with Open contenders.
Gaspari is a strong proponent of high-intensity training. He opened up on some of the crazy ways he used to pump himself up for an intense weight training session and offered a grueling abs routine for boosting strength and hypertrophy. Then, he emphasized incorporating slow-mo reps to amp up workout intensity and build muscle.
Rich Gaspari Speaks Out Against Harmful Steroid Practices Among Young Lifters
In a recent Instagram post, Rich Gaspari criticized young lifters for starting steroids early. He highlighted the health risks that come with taking harsh compounds like tren and called for training quality above all else.
“I’m going to talk about a subject that I’m going to get a lot of flak for from a lot of the younger kids that are training with weights and that’s the usage of anabolic steroids,” said Gaspari. “A lot of these young kids just starting out to train go directly on really hardcore drugs like trenbolone, high doses of testosterone, anadrol, Dbol, all these drugs. Now, I was a professional bodybuilder I had to use steroids to compete. But, the dosages were much lower than I see today in a lot of these bodybuilders.”
Gaspari claims the dosages were way lower in his days of competing on stage.
“And I’ve done blood work to make sure I stay healthy and cycled with steroids. A lot of these guys are taking steroids continually. These are kids 18 year olds, 17, 18, 19, doing high doses of trenbolone and not really monitoring themselves, which is really dangerous. It’s a big problem.
“What I’ve seen is that a lot of kids just don’t know that they have to work hard, train hard, train smart, and eat the right type of foods, eating nutritionally, eating the right amount of macronutrients, which I see a lot of people just don’t eat enough to really grow muscle.
“Just me talking out saying if you are going to take the risk of taking steroids, you need to get blood work done, you need to be able to go off and on cycles, but these kids are not doing that. They just continually stay on high doses of really toxic steroids that later on… they might not be here.”

Rich Gaspari revealed the technique he used on the incline dumbbell one-arm row to build thickness in his back with a bench. He used an incline bench to reduce any momentum from the swing to ensure optimal gains during the entirety of each movement.
Gaspari listed Jefferson squats as his exercise of choice for developing bigger legs. He emphasized going down to a full range of motion for the best results. Then, the 60-year-old detailed the modified sumo squats as a solid movement to target the glutes and build strength in the legs. He suggested performing the exercise on an elevated platform for the best results.

His latest update might encourage some lifters against taking steroids. Overall, Gaspari just wants to see the sport practiced in a safe and healthy manner.

Arnold Schwarzenegger on Protein: “The Quality Isn’t As Important As You’ve Been Led to Believe

Arnold Schwarzenegger on Protein: “The Quality Isn’t As Important As You’ve Been Led to Believe

Bodybuilding legend Arnold Schwarzenegger’s attention to nutrition and dieting remain top priorities at the age of 76. In the latest Arnold’s Pump Club Newsletter, Schwarzenegger discussed protein intake and whether or not quality matters when choosing which sources to consume.
Given his star power and name recognition, fans listen when Arnold Schwarzenegger talks about his nutritional options. Having dominated the most prestigious stages in the sport, Schwarzenegger is no stranger to the protein demands of a top-tier bodybuilder. He’s a seven-time Mr. Olympia winner, a reign he made possible with popping biceps, a slim waist, and towering height.
In retirement, Schwarzenegger admits his diet has changed drastically. In 2022, he credited an 80% plant-based diet he’s followed for the last five years. ‘The Austrian Oak’ was dealing with cholesterol issues, which eventually led him down this ‘green diet’ path. While he accepts animal-based protein sources have richer amino acid profiles, Schwarzenegger believes the diet he follows has helped improve his life.

Hoping to make fitness more mainstream, Arnold has used his newsletter to inform the masses. To shed more light on diet hacks, the bodybuilding icon went over a healthy checklist he uses to stay fit despite his hectic schedule. Now, he’s back to highlight the differences between eating protein for quality versus quantity.
Arnold Schwarzenegger Weighs Up Protein – Does Quality Matter?
According to the seven-time Mr. Olympia, if you’re eating enough protein, quality isn’t as important.
“The debate about protein superiority usually focuses on the speed of digestion, rate of absorption, amino acid content, or being “clean.” But all of these claims might be a distraction from what really matters.
New research suggests that if you’re eating enough protein, the quality isn’t as important as you’ve been led to believe.
Many people believe that if you want to grow muscle, you need a fast-absorbing protein with high digestibility. But there hasn’t been much research asking a more practical question — if you eat more protein, can you worry less about the quality?
However, he says for those who want to consume less protein, quality options are preferred due to their absorption qualities.

The new study — which reviewed existing protein research — found that the quantity of protein you consume determines the need for quality. In other words, if you want to eat less protein, it’s best to focus on more premium protein. But, if you prefer eating a higher protein diet, then it’s OK if you’re not always consuming the highest absorbing options.
This is because protein consists of amino acids, the building blocks of your cells and muscle. And you need essential amino acids because your body can’t make them. Low-quality proteins have fewer essential amino acids or can be missing some of them completely. And that’s why some proteins really are “better” than others.
Schwarzenegger shared that the body will compensate with amino acid ‘gaps’ if the person eats excessive protein daily, which is good news for bodybuilders, who must consume staggering amounts of protein to maintain their muscle mass.

“But if you eat more protein (a minimum of 1.6g/kg per day of protein, according to the research) — even if it’s not the best option — the quantity compensates for the lower quality, your body fills the amino acid gaps (assuming you’re eating a variety of protein sources), and your body gets what it needs to build muscle, help you recover, and support your overall health
Of course, there are other considerations when choosing protein. Calories still matter, so if selecting a “lower quality” protein source means loading up on unnecessary calories, that could impact your results. But the protein itself — as long as you eat enough — will not hold you back.
If you want some guidelines or count your macros, here’s a simple example to show how it works. Let’s say you’re 175 pounds. If you’re eating only high-quality options (such as whey, beef, egg, soy, or milk — all have high digestibility), you could see results with only 80 grams of protein per day. But, if you eat roughly 175 grams of protein daily, you can eat some lower-quality forms of protein such as peanuts, wheat, or beans.” Arnold Schwarzenegger shared in his newsletter.

Aside from his nutrition, Schwarzenegger continues to dedicate himself to training but he’s also eager to help others discover fitness. In a recent collaboration with fellow FUBAR actors Bert Kreischer and Fortune Feimster, Schwarzenegger turned back the clock pumping iron and offered tips on maximizing contractions during each movement.

Frank Zane Reveals His Secret That Helped Him Bag Three Mr. Olympia Titles

Frank Zane Reveals His Secret That Helped Him Bag Three Mr. Olympia Titles

Legendary bodybuilder and fitness icon Frank Zane has captivated the bodybuilding community with his sculpted and symmetrical physique. His journey to the top started during the 1960s, and he retired with three Olympia titles under his belt. In a recent episode of ‘The High-Performance Life’ podcast, which was hosted by Scott Danner, Zane spoke in detail about his illustrious career and revealed his most cherished moment of competitive bodybuilding.

Joe Weider gave birth to the Mr. Olympia competition in 1965, which soon became the ultimate battleground for professional bodybuilders globally. Winning on the Mr. Olympia stage was not an easy nut to crack by any means. Opening up about this, Zane shared that the most satisfying moment of his career was the day he lifted the Sandow trophy for the third time. He revealed that the win was a result of sheer determination and consistency.
Disclosing the secret behind the victory, Zane stated:
“I continued doing what worked for me in the past, training on what’s called a three-way split routine…three different workouts usually done three days in a row and resting the fourth day, I just went by what has always worked for me and I retain that and kept doing it”

What got Zane into competitive bodybuilding?
The allure of outdoor activities like weight training and hiking surrounded Zane since he was just 14 years old. The dopamine release that Zane experienced while being in the Boy Scout led him slowly to the road of wellness and fitness. As Zane matured, he discovered a profound sense of fulfillment in setting goals and then working toward them. His hunger to achieve excellence was a top motivator for achieving greatness in his life.

“I was good at school, and I just like challenges and working toward completing them,” Zane stated.
Zane shares his views on beating the legendary Arnold Schwarzenegger –
Frank Zane’s approach to the sport of bodybuilding focused entirely on achieving perfect symmetry and balance. These were the factors that helped him distinguish himself from the rest of the lineup. His attention to detail laid the foundation for one of the most symmetrical physiques ever displayed on a professional stage. Arnold Schwarzenegger, on the other hand, when first arrived in America, had a big muscular frame but lacked conditioning. According to the standards of American bodybuilding, Schwarzenegger was considered out of shape.
“We didn’t know each other at the time. It was 1968, and I just won Mr. America the week before and I was in great shape whereas he wasn’t in his best shape,” Zane recalled.
Beyond the stage, Zane’s influence on the realm of fitness and bodybuilding is unparalleled. (unparalleled) Apart from managing his own newsletter, Zane has also written numerous books on bodybuilding, optimum nutrition, and training practices. His focus on aesthetics has inspired countless lifters and aspiring bodybuilders to pursue a balanced approach to their craft.

Samir Bannout Predicts Derek Lunsford Wins 2023 Mr. Olympia, Says He Shouldn’t Worry About Size

Samir Bannout Predicts Derek Lunsford Wins 2023 Mr. Olympia, Says He Shouldn’t Worry About Size

The 2023 Mr. Olympia contest is inching closer, prompting Samir Bannout to examine the event in detail. In a recent Old School Labs Podcast, Bannout discussed the Mr. Olympia-winning potential of Derek Lunsford, Samson Dauda, and Hunter Labrada. In addition, Bannout blamed ‘the size game’ for killing off athletes unnecessarily.
Last year, the Men’s Open division transformed following Hadi Choopan’s victory at the 2022 Mr. Olympia. Fans could hear a pin drop in the arena as event announcer Bob Cicherillo delivered the results. En route to claiming gold, Choopan was tested by his teammate, 212-turned-Open star Derek Lunsford and Nick Walker.
Having secured runner-up in his Open debut, Lunsford left Sin City confident about the future. He briefly teased the idea of competing at the 2023 Arnold Classic, but decided to take advantage of a longer off-season instead. Known for his openness with fans, Lunsford said he’s already gained considerable muscle in preparation for his November showdown with Choopan.

Aside from Lunsford, Samson Dauda is optimistic about the upcoming Olympia competition. He narrowly defeated Walker at the Arnold Classic in March and raked in a record $300,000. With hype, a balanced physique, and Milos Sarcev as his trainer, fans expect Dauda to make a push for first in his next appearance. Bannout was the latest to discuss the lineup and laid out why he thinks a new champion will emerge in less than three months.
Samir Bannout Says ‘Playing the Size Game Is Killing Guys,’ Reveals Top 2023 Mr. Olympia Threats
According to Bannout, competitors are beginning to understand the risks of pursuing freakier physiques. He believes the rise in bodybuilding deaths is partially why Open competitions have lacked competitors, like this weekend’s 2023 Tampa Pro, which will feature 9 athletes from the respective division.

“I think most of the guys feel like, ‘Oh, you know, I’m going to get huge.’ But the thing is, they know right away it’s kind of risky to follow this route,” says Samir Bannout. “There’s a downside [to getting freaky big]. I think most people are pulling away and because there’s a lot of – well a lot of guys are dying. A lot of guys are dying. They’re not stupid. I mean, we don’t need to name the guys, we know. A lot of those guys are dying.”
“Coaches… they’re not mellowing out. They’re keeping the pressure of playing the size game and this is what’s really killing these guys,” shared Bannout. “That’s another thing causing the numbers to drop in the Open and people are going to Classic [Physique].”
“Nowadays with the coaches, what they advertise what they’re taking, oh my God, this is suicidal. That’s why I felt bad and get heartbroken to see guys like Shawn Rhoden no longer with us. Dallas McGarver no longer here. Gustavo, Nasser, those guys are supposed to be alive now!”

Samson Dauda
Next, Bannout examined the chances of Samson Dauda heading into this year’s Olympia. He believes if Dauda wants “etched paper-thin skin” he’ll have to drop at least 40 pounds.

“[He’s carrying] more than water, more than water. I believe he needs to drop at least 35-40 pounds. Look, I love his body. Incredible. Very impressive but the quality remains to be seen. If he wants to get that etched paper thin skin, he’s got to drop at least 40 pounds. So, yeah, he looks good. But I think there’s a difference between thin skin and hippo-like skin. I know the cause of the hippo kind of sickness of the skin. So, this is a problem.”
Hunter Labrada
Given Hunter Labrada competes at the Tampa Pro this weekend, Bannout gave his thoughts on the potential physique he’s expected to display.

“He looks way better than he did the last time we were talking about him,” Bannout shared. “Yeah, I mean if he was a little bit more tanned it would look a lot more impressive. I’m telling you, he has what it takes.”
“With a good enhancement to his tan and a little better on positioning, which his dad can fix that quickly, I wonder what he weighs right there because whatever he did, he changed something.”
“He looks a lot tighter than he did last time. There’s still more room for improvement until he steps on stage but definitely, what I don’t like right now is his color. I want to see him more, I want that healthy glow to his skin.”
Derek Lunsford
Looking ahead, Bannout predicted Derek Lunsford to win the 2023 Mr. Olympia competition but cautioned him not to focus on adding size.

“Look, all he [Derek Lunsford] needed is to look how he looked last year, a little sharper in the back department, and he’s right there,” Bannout said. “He’s so massive.”
“I think Derek is going to do it [win 2023 Mr. Olympia]. I just don’t think he needs to be more irrational about putting on more size. As is, go 24-carat and win the fucking title. The only guy who I think could possibly do it, who… Regan.”

Bannout isn’t the only former Mr. Olympia winner backing Derek Lunsford to upset Hadi Choopan in Nov. A few months ago, bodybuilding legend Ronnie Coleman said Lunsford would be named the next champion. ‘The King’ also admitted that Lunsford was his favorite bodybuilder of this era.
With Lunsford adding weight in the off-season, fans expect another jaw-dropping package when he hits the stage. As for Samir Bannout, he predicted Lunsford to win but stressed to all competitors that focusing on the size can result in lifelong consequences.

Breon Ansley Hints At Classic Physique Return After Weight Cap Increase: “I Will Discuss it w/ The Team”

Breon Ansley Hints At Classic Physique Return After Weight Cap Increase: “I Will Discuss it w/ The Team”

Breon Ansley‘s exit from the Classic Physique division may be short-lived after all. On Monday, IFBB Vice President Tyler Manion announced an across-the-board weight increase for athletes in Classic Physique, with shorter statures afforded an extra seven pounds. In a recent Instagram post, Ansley reacted to the news and teased a possible return to Classic Physique.

“It does get interesting! The increase in the weight cap would put me at 187lbs guys; however, I might not have to cut water so heavy so I could weigh in at 192lbs because I wouldn’t lose as much height! Definitely, something to sleep on!” Breon Ansley shared.

‘The Black Swan’ reached the pinnacle of his career in 2017 when he captured his first Classic Physique Olympia title. Sporting one of the best backs in the sport, Ansley proved himself countless times on stage against elite talent. But it’s not just Ansley’s back that makes him so imposing, it’s how he presents his physique on stage through artful posing and seamless transitions.

In 2018, Ansley became a two-time Classic Physique Olympia champion. However, his rival, Chris Bumstead, finally caught up to Ansley in their next outing. Bumstead, who boasts a tall frame and shapely X-frame, has since held the crown. Last December, Ansley returned to the 2022 Mr. Olympia for a final push to dethrone ‘Cbum.’ In the end, Ansley fell short in fourth. He later mapped out a move to Men’s 212 Bodybuilding because he felt he was losing excessive muscle by cutting weight for the Classic Physique division.
Even though he’s yet to finalize his next show, fans, and bodybuilders expect Ansley to make a statement should he follow through on his 212 splash. In preparation for the jump, Ansley has offered glimpses into his new diet. He hopes to gain 10 pounds of muscle for the transition. Although now that Classic Physique allows for another seven pounds, Ansley admits he’s got some thinking to do.
Breon Ansley Teases Classic Physique Comeback After His Weight Limit Increases by 7 Lbs
According to Ansley, the new weight change would result in an “entirely different look.” He intends to discuss the matter with his team before jumping to any conclusions.
“Yes, yes I have heard the news. Pretty ironic how I’m in here practicing posing, looking at everything, looking at the checks and balances. And I hear the news that they are upping the shorter heights in Classic by seven pounds.
So, that does make a difference for me ladies and gentlemen, absolutely, it would be an entirely different look for me on stage… and I will discuss it with the team to see where we stand, to see what decisions we make because of it. Alright? Love you guys, thank you for all the messages, thank you for the support. Love y’all. We’ve got to get back to work still… regardless of what we’re going to do,” Breon Ansley shared.

Given his issues with the Classic Physique weight cap in the past, many assume Ansley could find success in the 212 category. In fact, reigning four-time Classic Physique Olympia Chris Bumstead said years ago that he thought Breon’s rightful place was in the 212 division.
Aside from Classic Physique, Tyler Manion also announced changes to the Men’s Physique class earlier this year. They implemented a new height/weight cap restriction, which was put in place to prevent Men’s Physique athletes from rivaling the size of Classic Physique competitors.

RELATED: Is Classic Physique Taking Over Men’s Open Bodybuilding?
As a former Olympia winner, it’s hard to imagine Breon Ansley won’t deliver fireworks in a potential 212 Bodybuilding venture. Having prepared months for this transition, Ansley has yet to decide if he will change course and return to his old division. However, if he intends to step on the Olympia stage as a 212 athlete, he must win a Pro show before October 9.

Nick Walker Gives Top 3 Predictions for 2023 Tampa Pro, Backs Rival Hunter Labrada To Win

Nick Walker Gives Top 3 Predictions for 2023 Tampa Pro, Backs Rival Hunter Labrada To Win

The anticipation surrounding the 2023 Tampa Pro is reaching its peak as competitors prepare to step on stage in Florida this weekend. In a recent HD Muscle Podcast, Men’s Open star Nick Walker gave his top three predictions and backed Hunter Labrada to come out on top.
Hunter Labrada intends to redeem himself this season after finishing seventh at last year’s 2022 Mr. Olympia, won by Hadi Choopan. Since that night, Hunter and his trainer Ben Chow have admitted to problems with the prep and said they ‘mistimed’ his peak. In the aftermath, Hunter struggled to accept the outcome but underlined that he would prove himself as one of the best later this year.
In preparation for his latest endeavor, Hunter Labrada has taken measures inside and outside the gym to showcase improvements. He believes the significant changes to his diet and nutrition will only bolster his chances of success. In addition, Labrada has utilized green gut health drinks and prioritized abdomen control to ensure his midsection stays tight on stage.

Labrada has publicly stated that his focus is not on the Mr. Olympia competition this year. He announced participation in two contests this season: the Tampa Pro and Texas Pro. With the show approaching this weekend, bodybuilding star Nick Walker revealed who he thinks will stand on the Tampa Pro podium when it’s over.
Nick Walker’s 2023 Tampa Pro Predictions

Walker Predicts Hunter Labrada to Win 2023 Tampa Pro, Gives Top 3 Finishers
According to Walker, competitors are reluctant to compete as there are only six athletes signed up for the Tampa Pro this weekend. He also credited Hunter Labrada for improving his conditioning.

“Nobody wants to compete, there’s six people. Blessing’s not doing it,” said Walker.
“Hunter looks the best he’s ever looked,” Quinton Eriya shared.
“He definitely finally brought the conditioning, replied Walker. “You see people commenting, ‘Oh is Hunter too flat?’ He’s supposed to be man. He’s going to have a good amount of time to eat up, calm down.”
“He looks amazing I’m very excited,” said Justin Shier.
“I’m really excited to see Carlos [Thomas Jr.] in Texas,” Walker said.
Fans are excited to see Labrada take to the stage this year. He intends to turn around next month at the 2023 Texas Pro as well. There has been a lot of talk about the Texas Pro this year as Andrew Jacked looks to defend the title he earned in 2022.
Aside from Jacked, mass monster Carlos Thomas Jr. announced his respective entry. While he’s yet to perform at a Pro show, many believe if he wins this event, he’ll catapult his career to new heights. Thomas Jr. continues to gain hype in the league as he recently guest posed at the Victor Martinez Legends Championships and stole the show.
Should Hunter Labrada secure the victory in Florida, he’ll earn an invite to the Mr. Olympia competition, where he’ll have the opportunity to test himself against the reigning champion Hadi Choopan. As for Nick Walker, he’s already qualified for Olympia this year and intends to win his first Sandow in November.

Hunter Labrada Nails The Final Leg Workout Before 2023 Tampa Pro

Hunter Labrada Nails The Final Leg Workout Before 2023 Tampa Pro

Bodybuilder Hunter Labrada hit a rough patch in his career when he slipped to the seventh spot at the 2022 Olympia. This was a massive four-spot skid for the 31-year-old poised to beat the champ after breaking into the top five in 2021. However, he is back with vengeance to reclaim his rightful place in the Men’s division and annihilated an intense leg training session nine days out of the 2023 Tampa Pro.
Hunter Labrada is a renowned IFBB Pro bodybuilder and a top Open division competitor. As the son of legendary bodybuilder Lee Labrada, Hunter has inherited the passion for bodybuilding. He shot to fame after dominating the stage at the 2020 Tampa Pro, earning a direct qualification to the 2020 Olympia. After concluding the season with an eighth place finish in 2020 Olympia, Labrada earned his second straight qualification to Olympia by winning the 2021 Chicago Pro. He surged into the top five at the 2021 Olympia, defeating the likes of Nick Walker and William Bonac in the process.
Labrada made quite a few changes to his training and addressed sleep apnea to prepare for the 2022 Olympia. However, the efforts did not yield the expected results and he vowed to come back stronger. Earlier this year, Lee Labrada confirmed that Hunter is intent on winning the 2023 Tampa Pro and the 2023 Texas Pro to ‘get on top of his peak’.
He is primed to make a comeback at the 2023 Tampa Pro that takes place from August 3-5 and went through the last leg day of prep. So let’s check out how the Labrada Scion is getting ready to make a splash.

Final leg day before 2023 Tampa Pro
Hunter Labrada trained with mostly isolation exercises in the training session as his prep is coming to an end. While explaining the goal of this training session, he said:
“Today is definitely more of, like, an isolation day, you know. Extensions, curls, glute bridges, calves, abductors kind of day. There’s really finishing touches putting some blood through the legs. So really excited about today though…”
Labrada was joined by veteran bodybuilder Branch Warren for this training session. One of the most prominent bodybuilders from the 2000s era, Warren came close to winning the Mr. Olympia title in 2009 when he was placed second behind Jay Cutler. However, he elevated to the next level when he won the Arnold Classic title in 2011 and 2012.

The 48-year-old retired from competition after finishing sixth at the 2023 Olympia. While he still maintains an excellent physique, the Texan has no interest in returning to the stage again. Warren flew down to see Labrada’s progress and guide him in the right direction.
“Branch has seen me compete pretty much every single time I’ve competed. So I trust his eye. He’s obviously known for his conditioning and that’s something that I need to bring this time. So hopefully he’ll have something good to say,” Labrada concluded.
With that, Labrada jumped into the workout to put in the last bit of work before the 2023 Tampa Pro as Branch Warren went through a back workout of his own.
Seated Leg Curls
Labrada’s training session kicked off with this isolation movement. Leg curls not only stimulate the hamstrings but also warm up the knees without putting a lot of stress on them. So they make for an excellent starting exercise for a leg training session to avoid knee injuries or discomfort.
After pushing through some solid sets of seated leg curls, the 2020 Tampa Pro winner took a good look at his legs in the mirror and headed over to perform a quad movement next.

Leg Extensions
Labrada next took to the leg extensions to isolate the quadriceps. Although it is an effective quad isolation movement, leg extensions can be harsh on the knees if done with excessively heavy weights. Labrada went through a few sets of the movement and took to a compound exercise next.
Hip Press
This served as the first compound exercise of the day. Hip press targets all the major muscle groups in the lower body like hamstrings, quadriceps, and glutes. Labrada used the Rogers Athletic machine to do this exercise. It has a pendulum design that increases the range of motion and ensures maximum engagement of the target muscles. Hunter Labrada did all the sets of hip presses unilaterally and took to the next exercise.

Hip Thrusts
Hip joint extensions, abduction, and rotation are the primary functions of the glutes. They are crucial in activities like standing up from a seated position, climbing the stairs, walking, running, and generating explosive power for lower body movements. Hip thrusts target gluteus maximus, the largest gluteal muscle.
Hunter Labrada performed the exercise on the hip thrusts machine. He pressed through some intense sets of the exercise before advancing to the final exercise of the day and by default, the final leg exercise before the 2023 Tampa Pro.
Standing Incline Calf Raises
Labrada wrapped up the training session with the inclined version of standing calf raises. The angled position in this variation reduces the pressure on the lower back as the weight is stacked on shoulders. Standing calf raises focus more on the gastrocnemius muscles in the calves. Labrada cranked out a few sets of the exercise and called it a day in the gym.
Overall, the workout included:

Branch Warren gauges Hunter Labrada’s progress
Branch Warren did a back workout of his own and headed over to a separate area of the gym for a discussion. Warren, MJ, and Lee Labrada watched carefully as Hunter transitioned through bodybuilding poses. His massively improved conditioning was on full display. The narrow midsection, striated back and glutes caught the attention when the 2021 Chicago Pro winner hit the rear double bicep pose.
Lee Labrada, MJ, and Branch Warren give their inputs to Hunter. The 31-year-old’s conditioning impressed Warren and he gave him the props for the narrow waist, back striations, triceps, and shoulders.

Nine days out of the 2023 Tampa Pro, Hunter weighed 250 lbs or 4 lbs lighter than he was around the same time before the 2022 Olympia. His father opined that he could have produced better results if the conditioning was at the same level on the 2022 Olympia stage.
Hunter Labrada will head over to show his talent at the 2023 Texas Pro after competing in Tampa. The event takes place on August 18-19 in Arlington, TX. Rising contender Chinedu Andrew Obiekea AKA Andrew Jacked was close behind Labrada at the 2022 Olympia, placing eighth in the Men’s Open division.
He will attempt to win his second Texas Pro trophy. However, an upcoming bodybuilder is confident that he will upset them both. Hunter Labrada has looked phenomenal in recent physique updates. If Labrada can get past Andrew Jacked and emerge victorious at the 2023 Texas Pro, it will be a major shift of momentum in his favor for the 2023 Olympia prep.

Jay Cutler Crushes Intense Shoulder Workout for ‘Fit for 50’

Jay Cutler Crushes Intense Shoulder Workout for ‘Fit for 50’

Legendary bodybuilder Jay Cutler moved on from professional competition years ago but carried his undying passion for fitness post-retirement. He has kept a high fitness level and is working on enhancing his physique even more for his 50th birthday. In a recent video uploaded on his YouTube channel, Cutler gave fans a look into the diet and the shoulder workout he’s utilizing to get ready for the ‘Fit for 50’ challenge.
Jay Cutler led a highly successful career in the Men’s Open division in the 2000s. His freakish muscle mass, size, and conditioning, led him to a dominant victory at the 2002 Arnold Classic and 2003 Arnold Classic. Cutler developed a fiery rivalry with fellow legend Ronnie Coleman as the eight-time champion kept beating him at Mr. Olympia contests. After placing runner-up four times, he finally dethroned Coleman to secure the coveted Sandow trophy.
Cutler dropped the title to Dexter Jackson in 2008. He returned stronger than ever the next season and reclaimed the title at the 2009 Mr. Olympia. He hung up his posing trunks with four Mr. Olympia and three Arnold Classic titles under his belt.
The 49-year-old continues to train regularly and lead a healthy lifestyle. He got on a mission to step up his fitness for the ‘Fit for 50’ body transformation challenge. Cutler targeted building muscle while retaining his leanness and ended up adding 15 pounds to his humongous frame.
Cutler has a sharp eye for talent stemming from his decades of experience in the sport. He believes 2023 Arnold Classic winner Samson Dauda and former 212 Olympia champ Derek Lunsford are the favorites going into the 2023 Mr. Olympia. He also took notice of rising sensation Andrew Jacked, who he believes can shock the world. Then, he listed the techniques that helped him build 20-inch arms in a training update.

Jay Cutler left the fans stunned with a ripped physique update seven weeks out of the ‘Fit for 50’ challenge. He followed up by detailing the ultimate back exercise for building wide and thick lats.
According to Cutler, he would be able to craft the physique he wants without taking any PEDs (performance-enhancing drugs) except for being on TRT (testosterone replacement therapy). He reported having a crazy appetite even though he’s not taking any heavy anabolics.
Jay Cutler Crushes Intense Shoulder Workout for ‘Fit for 50’
In a recent YouTube video, Jay Cutler crushed a brutal shoulder workout and gave fans a look into his diet while in prep for the ‘Fit for 50’ challenge.
“8 days away from Fit for 50,” said Cutler.
He does 60 minutes of cardio every single day to get his body in shape and will keep it going even after the challenge.
Cutler eats six meals a day. His first meal was two over-easy eggs on toast with strawberries and yogurt. He also took a protein shake with egg whites and rice. His third meal was chicken and rice. For pre-workout, he took his brand’s Prevail, Fundamentals, and Amplify 2 supplements. For post-workout, he consumed 10oz steak, 1 cup of rice, and grilled onions from Teriyaki Boy.
“That’s been the weakest part for me coming back is the shoulders,” said Cutler. “I’m actually starting to get some good cap on it now. Hopefully, I can get a little more fullness and as I get more detailed. The definition is going to show that better cut in the shoulder, between the shoulder, bicep, tricep.”
“I’ve been training seven days a week now. I don’t really take days off.”
“We’re going to pre-exhaust [machine side laterals]. I’m going to do like two warm-up sets and three working sets, probably going to bring the weight up a bit. This will get the blood in my shoulders and get them ready for all these heavy compound movements.”
Shoulder Workout:

Machine Side Laterals – 3 sets
Dumbbell Shoulder Press – 3 sets
Barbell Front Raise – 3 sets
Cable Rear Delt Fly – 3 sets
Reverse Pec Deck Fly – 3 sets
Single Arm Lateral Raises – 3 sets

Jay Cutler reported he’s in fine form after getting his blood panels and markers done ahead of his 50th birthday. He highlighted the problem of a lack of financial incentives and low prize money being offered at competitions, which has stagnated the growth of bodybuilding with fewer athletes participating.
Cutler believes in utilizing high-volume training to grow muscle. He revealed he’d perform at least 20 sets of about six exercises for each muscle group.
His latest offering adds yet another Mr. Olympia-worthy workout routine to the repertoire of fitness fans for building bigger shoulders.
