Brandon Curry Has ‘Zero Regrets’ After Second-Place Finish At Olympia
Former champion Brandon Curry made a statement after finishing second at this year’s Olympia.
It has not been too long since Brandon Curry was hoisting the trophy in the air after winning the 2019 Olympia. He reached the pinnacle of bodybuilding and was looking to stay at the top. While he has been one of the best in the sport since that night, Curry has been defeated two years in a row now.
In 2020, Curry finished second to Big Ramy at the Olympia. The 2021 competition is now complete and it was the same fate for Curry. During prejudging, it was clear that Curry and Big Ramy were the top two and it would make for an interesting battle come the final.
After a second-straight silver medal, Curry took to Instagram to make a statement and say that he will be back better than ever.
“2021 was another one for the history books!I gave it my best and managed to pull off a 2nd place battle against the current champ @big_ramy. Congrats to him on his performance and for retaining his title! I fell short according to the judges, but I have zero regrets because I did my absolute best and the rest was in their hands. To be in the top 2 in the world for 3 consecutive years is my historical moment for the year. Each year I find something significant in the outcome and that was that moment for me.”
Brandon Curry took the necessary time to thank his family, friends, sponsors, and trainers. He made sure to hit all ends that work with him during his journey to the Olympia. And of course, Curry promised to be back in the future.
This is not surprising given the string of success he has found. Curry has been a top-two finisher in each of the last three Olympia’s. There is no doubt that he is one of the best in the world but the judges have been leaning toward Big Ramy over the last two years.
“Time to come home and kick things up a notch!” Curry continued.
“Thank you to all of my fans around the world-I truly have the greatest fans in the world! And thank you to my family and friends for the encouragement along the way. It carried me further than you may realize….And to my kids for understanding why I’m away for months at a time and showing up to cheer for me…every victory I have is your victory too! And to those who helped my wife and children while I was away. I thank you. #ILLBEBACK #15 ??”
Brandon Curry made his first appearance at the Olympia in 2013, where he finished eighth. After a few finishes near the bottom, Curry climbed to top five in 2018. This was before he won both the Olympia and Arnold Classic in 2019. Now, Curry has solidified his legacy and has shown that he is a difficult competitor on stage.
Sights have already been set on the 2022 competition. There is no doubt that we will see Curry if all goes right and he could be competing for another title.

Mr. Olympia 2021 Prejudging: The Revenge Of Brandon Curry Threatens Big Ramy
Brandon Curry looks on point against Big Ramy’s slightly off conditioning during the Mr. Olympia 2021 prejudging.
Friday night of the Olympia 2021 ends with a climactic cliffhanger. After a series of exciting finals – the very last event of the night was the Mr. Olympia prejudging. The best Men’s Open bodybuilders battled it out on stage for the most prestigious award in the sport. Ultimately, the prejudging came down to an ultimate face off. The returning champion Big Ramy vs the former champion Brandon Curry. It was an incredibly close match. Based on what we saw tonight – Brandon Curry very well might reclaim his Mr. Olympia title.
Of course, much can change between tonight and the finals. The competitors have a full 24 hours to make adjustments, tighten up, and prove themselves one last time on Saturday night. The battle was so close between Big Ramy and Brandon Curry – that even the slightest change could effect the outcome.
Much like the Men’s 212 prejudging – this year’s Mr. Olympia had an incredible talented and stacked lineup. It just might be one of the most tense competitions for the Men’s Open in years. Beyond the top two contenders – many up-and-coming younger competitors had a real moment to shine. And also showed off just how threatening they can become in future years. The top 5 looks to be very different than the typical names we’ve seen on the list in past years. That just shows how impressive this year’s lineup really was.
Let’s break down in our full Mr. Olympia prejudging and analysis report:
Mr. Olympia 2021 Pre-Judging Breakdown
After a round of random group comparisons, we kicked off the Mr. Olympia 2021 prejudging callouts in earnest with the judges initial featured choices for the top six. The expected Big Ramy, Hadi Choopan, Brandon Curry, and William Bonac were brought into the fold here. It was also exciting to see that relative newcomers Nick Walker and Hunter Labrada made their way into this lineup. Both had plenty of hype throughout the season – and their hard work seems to be paying off.
Big Ramy and Brandon Curry were squarely placed in the middle of this lineup. It was somewhat unfortunate to see William Bonac pressed off into the sidelines of the lineup. A competitor who once landed second at the Mr. Olympia and is a former Arnold Classic champion – his physique couldn’t keep him in step with the center highlighted competitors.
1st Callout Lineup
Nick Walker
Hadi Choopan
Hunter Labrada
William Bonac
Mamdouh Elssbiay
Brandon Curry
The Mr. Olympia 2021 second and third callouts went as expected – with follow up competitors battling it out for presumed rankings below sixth place. Many of these athletes also sported incredible physiques – but in the biggest competition of the year, athletes who would have otherwise landed wins found themselves facing off in lower callouts.
Roelly Winklaar found himself in the second callout. After a rough year of missing other big competitions – many fans hoped to see him in a new and improved form for a big placing. But it seems yet another missed opportunity for a fan favorite mass monster.
2nd Callout Lineup
Roelly Winklaar
Iain Valliere
Akim Williams
Mohamed Shaaban
Justin Rodriguez
James Hollingshead
3rd Callout Lineup
Andrea Presti
Patrick Moore
Regan Grimes
Hassan Mostafa
The Mr. Olympia 2021 fourth callout was an interesting one. It brought back some top competitors into the fold for what looked like a battle for sixth place. Bodybuilders Roelly Winklaar, Akim Williams, Mohamed Shaaban, and James Hollingshead all duked it out to claw up in the standings.
These competitors will be athletes to keep our eyes on during the finals tomorrow. With a full 24 hours to prepare in between the two nights – these four could shift into the top five if they place their cards right.
4th Callout Lineup
Akim Williams
Roelly Winklaar
Mohamed Shaaban
James Hollingshead
It was clear that we were working our way back up to the front of the pack. The fifth callouts seemed to focus on all but the top two competitors of the night. This is a very dangerous pack of athletes. As we’ve said before, with so much time between the two nights – this is where a lot of the placings can get shifted around by the awards ceremony tomorrow. Who of these competitors will earn the third spot? And can any of them inch past the current top two?
Fifth Callout
Nick Walker
William Bonac
Iain Valliere
Hadi Choopan
Hunter Labrada
Ultimately the entire Mr. Olympia 2021 prejudging was building up to this next moment. In a two way duel – Big Ramy and Brandon Curry battled it out in a final top two callout. Big Ramy has been inconsistent with his conditioning throughout his career – and unfortunately he seemed to bring a quality of sharpness that was slightly off compared to last year. Still an extremely impressive and dangerous physique – this kind of slight slip could be all it takes to lose rank as returning champion.
It doesn’t help that Brandon Curry has remained consistent as ever. Curry has always slowly improve year after year – and 2021 is no different. Brandon cannot match up to Big Ramy’s size – but his conditioning and structure were fantastic. This is the kind of steady improvement that can take advantage of even the slightest drops in quality seen on Ramy.
Ultimately, it was a blow for blow final callout. Every other pose seemed to favor one competitor over the other back and forth. This battle is incredibly close. Add the additional 24 hours to get things into tighter shape – and this is anyones ballgame. At the moment, we would place a slight lead onto Brandon Curry. Could this be a comeback for our former champion? Only time will tell.

Brandon Curry Shows Some Massively Improved Legs Weeks Out From The Olympia
Brandon Curry has built some truly impressive legs in the off season.
2019 Olympia champion Brandon Curry hasn’t gotten a fair shake from the fans. Despite his dominant performance in 2019, many people wrote it off, saying that he didn’t defeat Phil Heath, that he didn’t contend with Shawn Rhoden. Many excuses have been thrown out there. Yet he defeated Heath at the 2020 Olympia. The feat cemented that he was indeed a rightful champion.
That said, Brandon Curry still lost to Big Ramy at the 2020 Olympia. In the loss Brandon Curry was able to collect information. The info he gathered was that he had plenty to improve upon. In particular Curry realized that he needed to improve upon his legs in order to defeat Big Ramy at the 2021 show.
In order to take his legs to the next level, Brandon Curry has doubled down on his training. A recent physique update showcases just how much he’s improved upon his “weak point.”
To be honest, Brandon Curry had some pretty impressive legs to begin with. But his recent training has transformed his legs to the next level. If the goal was to improve his lower half, it appears that Curry has successfully accomplished his mission.
One thing is certain about Brandon Curry: he just keeps improving. No matter his placing in the division, what can’t be denied is Curry’s ability to point out weaknesses and strengths and build on both. It’s what carried him to victory in 2019. It could be exactly what sees him pull off the upset in 2021.
While many believe Big Ramy is the favorite heading into the show, it can’t be denied that Brandon Curry was hot on his heels at the 2020 Olympia. Curry didn’t lose to Big Ramy by much. A few tweaks here and there and Curry could have easily walked away with a victory. Now he’s hoping to make good on his potential and once again secure a victory in 2021.
What do you think of the improvements Brandon Curry has made to his physique?

Phil Heath Takes a Shot at Brandon Curry and His Legs
Phil Heath takes aim at rival Brandon Curry.
Phil Heath appears to be fanning the flames of rivalry. It appears that Heath has taken a shot at 2019 Olympia champion Brandon Curry. According to a recent video on YouTube, Heath took a shit at Curry, expressly pointing out his old rival’s legs.
There’s nothing quite like a good rivalry to get fans excited. A little bit of trash talk can go a long way in building excitement and anticipation. Just ask Kai Greene. But the real question on many people’s minds is whether this call out confirms that Phil Heath is making a return to action.
While it could be a bit of a stretch, Phil Heath criticizing Brandon Curry on his legs could be viewed as a direct challenge. If he’s directly challenging Curry then that in turn could mean Heath is gearing up to face off with his new rival once more. Throw in the recent challenge from Kai Greene and you can speculate that Heath will once again step onto an Olympia stage.
Shots Fired
The call out in question was from a training video posted on Andrei Deiu’s YouTube channel. The video is of Deiu and Derek Lunsford training legs under the watchful eye of Hany Rambod. During the training session Rambod had Phil Heath on a video call where The seven-time Olympia champion took aim at Brandon Curry.
When taking the measure of Derek Lunsford’s legs Heath had this to say:
“They’re better than Brandon’s.
“You could teach him some things.”
The conversation occurs about six minutes into the video, which you can see here.
With all that said, Phil Heath is likely just taking aim at what Brandon Curry is self conscious about. Curry had stated he intended to get his legs to the next level in order to compete with Big Ramy. From the looks of things, Curry is well on his way to building legs that could challenge the 2020 Olympia champion.
What do you think of Phil Heath taking aim at Brandon Curry? Do you think Heath will make a return in 2021?
