Arnold Schwarzenegger Shares Intense Circuit Workouts & Reveals Training Secrets: ‘Don’t Think Just Do’
Bodybuilding legend Arnold Schwarzenegger moved on from professional competition decades ago but hasn’t lost his passion for fitness. In a recent Men’s Health interview, Schwarzenegger shared intense arm and shoulder circuit workouts and revealed his training secrets.
Arnold Schwarzenegger is easily the most popular bodybuilder of all time. He first gained attention for his impressive muscle mass, shape, and symmetry in the late 1960s and early 70s. In eight total appearances at the Mr. Olympia competition, Schwarzenegger won seven titles and was defeated only in his debut. The Arnold Classic contest, widely regarded as the second most prestigious show next to Mr. Olympia, was named after him to celebrate his contributions to the sport.
Schwarzenegger offered a checklist for a healthy diet and some effective ways to optimize recovery earlier this year. He argued against experimenting with different diets in favor of following general guidelines to keep nutrition sources clean.
The 75-year-old encouraged his followers to achieve at least a total of 30 minutes of exercise daily three months ago. He laid out a three-step plan for designing a custom routine to ensure daily activity for half an hour, even if it’s divided into multiple sessions.
Arnold Schwarzenegger advocated for using bodyweight exercises as well. He provided a quick five-minute workout with no equipment to start the day or recommended a warm-up before training. Then, he followed up with his stance on balancing sleep while losing weight. Schwarzenegger explained that people sleeping less than five hours daily were more likely to be overweight.
Schwarzenegger has no plans to slow down or step away from working anytime soon as he targets living forever. He opened up about struggling to accept his physique with age considering he used to boast one of the best physiques ever in his heyday. He also teamed up with comedians Bert Kreischer and Fortune Feimster for a challenging upper-body workout last week. He mentored the pair through exercises while giving his take on drinking alcohol.

In a recent YouTube video, Arnold Schwarzenegger shared two intense circuit workouts targeting arms and shoulders. He was working out at the popular Gold’s Gym in Venice Beach, California.
Arm Circuit
“This is what I do every morning, I come in here and do 25 to 30 sets in a half an hour,” said Schwarzenegger. “In the old days we did like 30 sets for shoulders now I do 15 sets.”
1A Machine Preacher Curl: 1 set of 30 reps, then 4 sets of 10-12 reps
1B Machine Dip: 1 set of 30 reps, then 4 sets of 10-12 reps
Shoulder Circuit
2A Overhead Press: 5 sets of 10-12 reps
2B Machine Lateral Raise: 5 sets of 10-12 reps
2C Machine Rear Delt Fly: 5 sets of 10-12 reps
Arnold likes ending each set with a 5-second iso-hold squeeze.
Schwarzenegger reveals training secrets
‘The Austrian Oak’ revealed his secret for training consistently. He believes in maintaining a routine by working out first thing in the morning and not giving your mind the opportunity to opt out of the exercise.
“The only reason why someone doesn’t want to go to the gym when they get up is because they were thinking. That’s the biggest mistake you can make.”
“When you train it is not just that your body gets pumped up and gets stimulated with blood but it’s also your mind and you have a much more positive kind of outlook on the day and on life when you’ve had a pump behind you.”
“I was in good shape [back in the 80s], I worked out two hours a day. Cause after having had several heart surgeries and then having had surgeries on my shoulders and knees and all those kind of things, it’s important to kind of protect my body and do therapy training at the same time. So I just do it faster, lighter, but correct exercises and I try to stay young.”
“If you want to go to the gym every day and do your bike ride, training every day, then you roll out of bed and you don’t think. Most important thing is don’t think just do.”
Arnold Schwarzenegger listed four ways to build a strong routine that fits into busy schedules. He highlighted the process of developing habits in a straightforward manner by rewarding the correct behaviors.
He opened up on the PED (performance-enhancing drugs) protocols that he utilized during his days of competing on stage. He also voiced his disapproval of the direction in which bodybuilding appears to be headed due to drug overuse.
Schwarzenegger’s latest offerings will help many improve their training consistency and level up their fitness with the circuit workouts.

Some people fail to realize that they don’t necessarily need to go to a gym to workout and resistance workouts aren’t the only type of training. A solid grit is all you need to get and stay in shape.
Apart from the annihilating workouts, this article will show you that you don’t need fancy equipment to build the physique of your dreams, and that complicated isn’t always better when it comes to working out.
In this article, we’ll give you three different workouts that you can do at your home or on the move. The muscle pumps at the end of each of these workouts will make you wonder if you ever need to step inside a gym again.
Out of the three workouts, one will be an outdoor session, and the other two can be done inside a room. This program is designed to keep your muscular and cardiovascular conditioning in top shape.
Workout 1 – Run For Your Life
Run – 0.5 Miles
Lunges – 10 Each Leg
Jumping Jacks – 25 Reps
Circuits – 3 | Time – 15-20 Minutes
Remember, this isn’t one of your leisure runs. Each exercise on this list is meant to be done with the highest intensity possible. After you run half a mile, keep your hands on your sides and start performing the lunges.
Get into the jumping jacks as soon as you’re done with the lunges. Rest for a minute and start the circuit again until you’re done with the three rounds. Not only do you need to complete the number of reps, but you also need to do them within the time mentioned.
Keep a stopwatch running and if – god forbid – you’re not able to complete the workouts within the time target, your punishment is to do one additional round. Make sure you don’t compromise on your form while performing the exercises.
Workout 2 – The Rep Attack
Pushups
Squats
Situp
Burpees
Step-Ups
Reps – 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 | Time – 20-25 minutes
The second training session is a rep pyramid workout. You’ll start the workout by performing ten reps of each exercise in the first circuit. The second round will have nine reps, eight reps in the third and so on until you perform one rep of each exercise in the last circuit.
You will not stop for rest between exercises. However, you’ll be taking a 30-second breather after completing each circuit. This is a great workout to do anywhere. You pack in a ton of quality work – 55 reps of 5 different exercises – and perform the entire workout in one spot.
Workout 3 – Make The Time Count
Skier Abs – 30 Seconds
Jump Squats – 30 Seconds
Diamond Pushups – 30 Seconds
Mountain Climber Twist – 30 Seconds
Touchdown Jack – 30 Seconds
Circuits – 3 | Time – 15-20 Minutes
Time will be the focus of the third workout. You’ll be performing each exercise for the time mentioned in front of it. As with the other two workouts, you can take a 30-second break after completing a circuit and nothing in between.
The workout should get harder as you get into the second and third circuits. Make sure you’re not compromising on your form. If you’re a beginner, you can perform the high plank leg lifts in place of the skier abs and Russian twists instead of the mountain climber twists.

Best Calf Training Circuit To Turn Your Calves Into Bulls
Calves can be one of the most stubborn muscle groups. While it might be hard to grow your calves, only a few other muscles look as dope as a pair of giant and shredded calves. If you’re like most people, performing 2-3 calf exercises won’t do much for your calf gains.
You need to be hitting all the three heads of your calves for optimal calf development. In this article, we’ll give you a circuit workout which will leave your calves begging for mercy. In the workout, you’ll be changing volume and intensity to get the most out of your workout.
Circuit 1 – 3 Sets
Seated Calf Raises (Neutral Feet Placement) – 10 Reps
You’ll be doing performing three rounds of the first circuit before moving onto the second circuit. Seated calf raises work the soleus muscle which will give your calf width towards the outside of your lower leg.
Your calves have two kinds of muscle tissues. The gastrocnemius is a fast-twitch muscle tissue while the soleus is a slow-twitch muscle. You’ll see better results by performing the ten reps of the seated calf raises with a 10-second pause at the bottom of the movement.
Hold and contract your calves at the top of the movement for a second before returning to the starting position. The neutral feet placement means that your feet will be parallel to each other while performing the exercise.
Standing Calf Raises (V-Feet Placement) – 20 Reps
The standing calf raises work the gastrocnemius which is the heart-shaped muscle. While performing the exercise, you’ll place your heels close to each other while the toes will be pointing outwards.
The V-feet placement helps in targeting the inner head of the calves. Since the gastrocnemius is a fast-twitch muscle fiber you’ll be performing 20 reps of the exercise without pausing at the bottom of the movement.
Donkey Calf Raises (A-Feet Placement) – 20 Reps
Donkey calf raises are one of the most underutilized exercises. If you don’t have a donkey calf raise machine at your gym, you can perform the exercise by asking someone to set on your back while you do the calf raises on an elevated platform.
While performing the calf raises, you need to keep your toes next to each other and the heels pointing outwards. The A-feet placement works the outer head of the calves. You’ll be pausing for a second and contacting your calves at the top of the movement.
Circuit 2 – 3 Sets
Leg Press Calf Raises (Neutral Feet Placement) – 20 Reps
While you’re performing a circuit, there should be no rest between exercises. After you’re done with one set of the exercise, rest for 45-60 seconds before starting the next set. The leg press calf presses work the gastrocnemius.
Smith Machine Calf Raises (V-Feet Placement) – 20 Reps
Most people let their egos get the better of them while training calves. Make sure you’re not lifting more weights than you can handle. Following a full range of motion is of utmost importance in calf development.
Seated Single-Leg Calf Raises – 20 Reps
Performing unilateral exercises can help in developing strength and fix muscle imbalances. While performing the calf exercises, you should be on your toes at the top of the movement. Your feet should look like the feet of a ballerina at the contraction point.

You’ll be performing a total of three circuits where each circuit will have five exercises. After each exercise, you’ll rest for 30-seconds before performing the next exercise. After completing a circuit, you’ll rest for a minute before starting the second round.
Reverse Crunches – 20 Reps
In this circuit workout, you’ll be training your midriff from all the angles to ensure overall development. The reverse crunches work the middle and lower abs and are one of the most underutilized exercises when it to abdominal development.
Lie down with your back on a floor mat and your arms placed at your sides. Keep your feet flat on the floor by bending at your knees. Bring your quads to your chest by lifting your hips off the floor while maintaining the bend in your knees. Slowly return to the starting position and repeat for the recommended reps.
Russian Twists – 20 Reps (Each Side)
Obliques are one of the most overlooked muscles when it comes to abdominal training. The obliques are the fish gill-like muscles at the side of your abs. Twisting and turning movements are the ones which target the obliques most effectively.
If you feel the bodyweight version of the exercise is too easy for you, feel free to add resistance by holding a weight plate in front of your chest with your arms extended over your knees.
Cable Crunches – 20 Reps
While you don’t need to use added resistance in every ab exercise, using weights can help bring out the definition and separation in your midriff. Make sure you’re following a full range of motion while performing all the exercises mentioned in the article.
If you want to do this ab workout at home, you can perform the orthodox crunches instead of the cable version. Controlled breathing plays an important role in abdominal training. You should be breathing out and squeezing your abs at the contraction point and breathing in while returning to the starting position.
Leg Raises To Heels To Heaven – 20 Reps
Leg raises to heels to heaven bring the goodness of two exercises into one. Lie down on an exercise mat with your arms extended at your sides. Perform a leg raise by elevating your legs off the floor while keeping your legs straight.
As you form a 90-degree angle with your legs and the floor, raises your legs towards the roof by lifting your hips off the floor. Return to the starting position in the same manner with a slow and controlled movement.
Planks – 1 Minute
Most people make the mistake of overlooking their core strength when it comes to ab training. Core strengthening exercises will not only help you in shaping your abs but will also improve your performance in functional exercises.
Perform the orthodox planks in the first set and switch to doing the side planks in the next two circuits. If you give your all in this circuit workout, your abs will be on fire by the end of the first circuit and asking for mercy by the last.
