Tia-Clair Toomey Gives a Look Into First Snatching Session Post-Pregnancy
Australian CrossFit athlete Tia-Clair Toomey has cemented her place in the history books with six CrossFit Games titles under her belt, making her the winningest Individual in the sport. However, she took to the sidelines after getting pregnant last year, but the time has come for a comeback now. So, in a recent video uploaded on YouTube, Toomey gave fans a look into her snatching practice session post-pregnancy.
Tia-Clair Toomey found her passion for CrossFit after getting introduced to the sport by her husband Shane Orr. She quickly started competing and ramped up her training significantly. In 2015, she earned her first qualification for the CrossFit Games, where she took the silver medal behind champion Katrin Davidsdottir. That same year Tia-Clair was crowned the Rookie of the Year. After falling short of Davidsdottir again in 2016, Toomey returned with a vengeance and won her maiden CrossFit Games title in 2017.
Toomey proved to be a dominant champion who managed to outshine proven veterans like Davidsdottir and beat the budding contenders each year since first taking the throne. She managed to add five consecutive title defenses and overtook five-time Fittest on Earth Mat Fraser’s record for the winningest athlete in the history of the sport with 2022 NOBULL CrossFit Games being the latest.
Toomey revealed the 4,000+ calorie diet she utilized to win her sixth CrossFit Games title in Sep. 2022. Then, she opened up on recovering from a major back injury she picked up before the Games.
Following her last showing, Toomey signed up to test her abilities in the team division at the 2022 Down Under Championship. She teamed up with Brooke Wells to start her preparations for the show with a team training session weeks later. However, she ended up not taking part in the competition due to her pregnancy.
Tia-Clair Toomey declared her ambitions to win her seventh individual title at the 2023 CrossFit games last September. She followed up with positive updates on the back injury that prevented her from training properly.
In Dec. 2022, Toomey announced her pregnancy and withdrawal from the 2023 CrossFit Games. She continued to train and provided a full tour of her insane home gym days later.
Tia-Clair Toomey Gives a Look Into First Snatching Session Post-Pregnancy
In a recent YouTube video, Tia-Clair Toomey gave fans a look into her first time practicing snatching after giving birth. However, she first revealed what kind of troubles she has been encountering post-pregnancy, the main one being timely eating and hydration.
“Before I know it, it is 5 pm at night and I’m like ‘Oh my gosh, I haven’t eaten anything’… I’ve got to be way better at that, especially while I’m training, breastfeeding, and ensuring that I am at optimal capacity.”
She focused on doing lightweight movements, working on hitting really good technique, and not going off improvements in performance. Toomey kicked off the training session with stretching (single-arm dead-hangs) and handstand walks for warm-up. She performed a snatch caught behind the neck, overhead jerks, overhead squats, and back squats.
“We are not worrying about percentages today, it is just purely going off feel and just hitting really good technique.”
Following the barbell exercises, she crushed pull-ups, toes-to-bar, rope climbs, ring dips, and handstand walks. Her workout concluded with four cardio intervals of 90-second rounds with a target of 148 calories burned on the Assault Bike.
“I am going in my third week and I’m already feeling like a bit stronger and I’m feeling and seeing a little bit more capacity in my dips and my pull-ups… It is awesome to see progression…
Earlier this year, Tia-Clair Toomey smashed a CrossFit workout while pregnant. She also laid out her full day of eating during pregnancy three months ago. While she didn’t track any of her meals, she followed a clean diet and preferred red meat as her source of protein. On May 9, Toomey announced she became a mother and welcomed her baby girl, named Willow Clair Orr.
If the latest update is any indication, Toomey is slowly inching her way back to making a return. In addition, she could make her comeback at the 2024 CrossFit Games.

Dave Castro Takes Over as Leader of CrossFit Sport Team Following Justin Bergh’s Departure
The 2023 CrossFit Games are just around the corner, as the competition is set to be held from August 1-6 in Madison, Wisconsin. The CrossFit team is currently fully occupied with preparing for their biggest competition of the year. In addition, the CrossFit administration has now experienced a few changes as well. This news comes as Justin Bergh has left CrossFit Inc. Thus, it was time for a new Sports Team Leader to be appointed and who better to pick up the role than Dave Castro, who is a familiar face on the scene.
The news of Justin Bergh’s departure was revealed through an internal email by the CEO of CrossFit himself, Don Faul. However, he did not reveal what the reason for this decision was, but instead just thanked Bergh for his dedication
“After 13 years, Justin Bergh will be leaving CrossFit. JB has done so much for our community and we’re incredibly grateful for the role he’s played in making CrossFit what it is today.”
With a natural leader needed to take Bergh’s place and Dave Castro fit in perfectly as the new CrossFit Sport Team leader.

Justin Bergh was a part of the CrossFit team for 13 years, practically being one of the most important people in the development of what the sport looks like today. The large portion of his mandate was spent addressing day-to-day business operations, everything regarding the CrossFit Games, media coverage, and more. So, Dave Castro looks to take up a lot of work with his new position.
Dave Castro already has experience in high positions, previously serving as Director of Competition in CrossFit. However, Castro who was laid off back in 2022.
Despite losing his job, Dave Castro got himself another position in CrossFit just five months later. This time he took an advisory role, but also aimed to secure a higher one. So, just a month back, Castro revealed that he was taking over the Education Team. However, that did not last long, as Castro will now be the leader of the Sport Team.

Currently, it is unclear whether Dave Castro will continue to lead the CrossFit Sport Team permanently or only until the 2023 CrossFit Games. Regardless, Dave will look to do as good of a job as possible and make the biggest event of this year enjoyable for everyone. Only six weeks remain until the competition takes place and it is hoped that they will be as entertaining as every other stage of this season has been. One is certain, a new women’s champion will be crowned after a six-year reign of Tia-Clair Toomey.

Mark Zuckerberg Smokes Murph Workout of 100 Pull-Ups, 200 Push-Ups, 300 Sqauts and 2 Miles in Les than 40 Min
Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Facebook and Meta, is on a mission to live a more active lifestyle. In a recent Facebook post, the social media mogul celebrated Memorial Day with a brutal workout challenge that consisted of two miles of running, 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups, and 300 squats while wearing a 20-pound vest.
In honor of the soldiers who gave their lives for the United States, Zuckerberg pushed himself with a famous circuit known as the ‘Murph challenge.’ This demanding workout was created by Lt Murphy, a Navy SEAL that died in Afghanistan. Murphy was a Medal of Honor recipient, a distinction he earned following his involvement in the Vietnam War.
As of late, Zuckerberg has made it a point to focus on his health and well-being. He managed to complete the Murph challenge in 39 minutes and 58 seconds. However, he mentioned that his daughter also took part in a quarter-Murph without the weighted vest. Mark joined her and completed the exercise challenge in just 15 minutes.

Zuckerberg isn’t the only social media giant keen on transforming his build. Elon Musk, who owns Twitter, Space X, and several other entities, recently decided it was time to get in shape. In August, Musk revealed that he was able to lose over 20 pounds thanks to regular exercise and periodic fasting.

Despite a busy schedule, Zuckerberg is determined to make time for a more active lifestyle.
“I try to do the Murph challenge with the girls every Memorial Day as a tradition to honor those who defended us. One of Lt Murphy’s favorite workouts was running a mile, then doing 100 pull ups, 200 push ups, 300 squats, and then running another mile — all while wearing a 20lb weighted pack. This year I got it done in 39:58. The girls did a quarter-Murph (unweighted) in 15 mins!” Mark Zuckerberg shared via Facebook.
The Murph challenge has undoubtedly gained popularity over the past few years. CrossFit sensation Lee Davis managed to set an unofficial world record after completing 16 rounds of the Murph challenge. In a 24-hour period, Davis ran an incredible 32 miles and completed 1,600 pull-ups, 3,200 sit-ups, and 4,800 squats.

2023 CrossFit South America Semifinal Results— Kaique Cerveny & Victoria Campos Top The Leaderboards
The 2023 CrossFit South America Semifinal was the third competition in the second week of Semifinals. The South America Semifinal, unlike the other two competitions, only had a few CrossFit Games qualifying spots for each division. As a result, only the top two in the Men’s and Women’s divisions, as well as the Teams division, were guaranteed a ticket for the 2023 CrossFit Games.
In an interesting set of circumstances, both the winners of the men’s and women’s divisions won by a margin of 16 points. All athletes were eager to secure a spot in CrossFit’s biggest competition, and this illustrates just how competitive both divisions were.
2023 CrossFit South America Semifinal
Arguably the biggest surprise in all Semifinals so far is that Guilherme Malheiros did not qualify for the 2023 CrossFit Games. The Brazilian has placed in the top 10 in both the 2022 & 2021 CrossFit Games, but that will not be the case this year as he placed third in the 2023 CrossFit South America Semifinal.
Kaique Cerveny and Kalyan Souza were the two men that outperformed Malheiros. Both men performed admirably, but Cerveny was almost perfect. He finished five events in second place and two more in the top five. As a result, he did not give anyone the opportunity to derail his victory.

Brooke Wells Talks About Injury Preventing 2023 CrossFit Games Qualification: “I Am Heartbroken”
The 2023 CrossFit Semifinals started last weekend, as it took place in two regions at once. Out of the two, the 2023 CrossFit North America East Semifinal was the one that stood out. This Semifinal featured an incredible roster, but it had also produced an immense loss for the remainder of the season, since Brooke Wells was unable to advance further due to some unfortunate happenings.
Brooke Wells is a veteran of the sport, as she has taken part in the past eight consecutive CrossFit Games editions. Brooke is now extremely saddened by the fact that her streak ended.
“All I’ve known for the past 8 years is gearing up for the CrossFit Games every summer. The reality that I won’t be doing that this year is an extremely tough pill to swallow. I am heartbroken. Devastated. I feel embarrassed. A little lost.”
While announcing the circumstances of her performance, Brooke Wells revealed that she was unable to perform to her full potential because of an injury. Specifically, Brooke tore her Plantar Fascia on the first event, but still endured the pain until the end.
Plantar Fascia is a connective tissue in the heel of the foot. So, a tear produces sharp pain during any movement. The recovery process can take months to heal properly.
“From the moment the competition started I was hit with some unexpected challenges. During the run in event 1, I tore my plantar fascia. I could barely walk after the event and I had the choice to either fight, or throw in the towel. I am very proud of myself for continuing to show up, when withdrawing would’ve been much easier.”

Brooke Wells has had a very difficult time with injuries, as she also injured her elbow at the 2021 CrossFit Games less than two years ago. Following that injury, Brooke needed reconstructive surgery and multiple months of recovery before getting back in the gym. Being an active athlete, Brooke Wells is facing the challenge of undergoing several more months of recovery, which can be quite difficult for her.
Although Brooke Wells did not qualify for the 2023 CrossFit Games, her sister, Sydney Wells, has secured her spot for the first time ever. So, Brooke revealed that she is still thrilled for her sister’s success despite encountering setbacks of her own.
“In the midst of my own heartbreak, I am thankful I get to celebrate & support my sister who has just qualified for her first time. Even when we are disappointed in ourselves, we can still root for others.”
Sydney Wells took seventh place at the 2023 CrossFit North America East Semifinal, while the top 11 qualified. This makes it even sad for Brooke Wells, as she was just out of the top 11, placing 14th, just seven points behind eleventh.
However, Brooke Wells has now lost all chances of qualifying for the 2023 CrossFit Games. This means that she won’t appear in the greatest CrossFit competition for the first time since 2015. During her 8-year streak, Brooke’s best placing at the Games was fifth, managing to accomplish the feat in both 2020 and 2022.

Despite the injury, Brooke Wells remains resilient and optimistic about the future. Her primary focus now is on proper recovery and preparation for the next season. However, she will still be missed at the 2023 CrossFit Games, alongside fellow women Tia-Clair Toomey, Kara Saunders, Mal O’Brien, and Haley Adams.
