Dennis Wolf Speaks On Men’s Open vs. Classic, Bodybuilders Dying: ‘It’s Always Been This Way’
Dennis Wolf joined Jay Cutler to discuss the recent ongoings in bodybuilding.
Dennis Wolf was a popular name in bodybuilding during his time on stage. He competed in the Olympia competition 10 times and brought an incredible package year in and year out. He remains up to date and influential in bodybuilding. Recently, Wolf joined Jay Cutler to discuss some of the recent ongoings in the sport.
Wolf was able to win the 2014 Arnold Classic before a fourth-place finish at the Olympia. Of course, Cutler is one of the top bodybuilders of all-time, having won the Olympia four times throughout his career. On a recent episode of Cutler Cast on YouTube, the duo sat down to discuss different topics in bodybuilding.

Dennis Wolf on Recent Deaths: ‘It’s Happened Too Much’
The string of bodybuilders dying has hit the sport hard in recent months. This has been happening since the end of 2021 when Shawn Rhoden and George Peterson passed away suddenly. Wolf weighed in on the discussion and acknowledged that it has been happening far too often.
“There’s so many sports right. But nobody talks about what happened in the last two years. Nobody talks about how many soccer players died. They were in their 20s! Nobody is pointing at anything. It’s always been this way. Of course, the past few years, it’s happened too much.”
Bostin Loyd also passed away with heart problems. Cedric McMillan’s death really hit the bodybuilding community hard. Wolf specifically discussed a friend of his, Paul Poloczek.
“Unfortunately, even my good friend and athlete died a couple of weeks ago. Paul Poloczek. He was young man. Just 37 years old. Polish. We’ve been working together. I’m friends with a lot of my athletes. We became friends and we’ve been talking about his next surgery because the last one didn’t go well.”
Men’s Open Bodybuilding vs. Classic Physique?
The Classic Physique division is one that continues to grow in popularity year by year. The stars that compete on stage are becoming some of the biggest figures in the sport. This includes reigning three-time Olympia champion Chris Bumstead. Many have spoken about Classic Physique being a healthier alternative and that it might be taking over the sport, one being Arnold Schwarzenegger.
It is not just Bumstead that is carrying the division. Terrence Ruffin and Breon Ansley are still at the top of their game. Newcomers Ramon Rocha Queiroz and Urs Kalecinski have also shown that they are here to stay.
“It could change every year or something. Even the Olympia, it’s not like the top-five is going to stay the same. It’s not like back in the day where the top two or three guys are always fighting for the first place. Somehow the top five and top six didn’t change much right, in ten years. Right, in ten years, straight competing at the Olympia every year, I was in the top six right. So, it’s almost every time the same guys.”
Dennis Wolf continued to discuss Men’s Open at the Olympia. Big Ramy is the reigning two-time champion but it is anyone’s game heading into the competition. Wolf believes it will be who shows up with the best conditioning.
This was a controversial topic last year as many thought that Hadi Choopan was the best conditioned.
“Who brings the best condition. I mean they are all potential winners but I think Hadi Choopan is… yeah from all of these guys, who could really bring it.
If Ramy comes in better than last year, he will be one of the favorites because it’s still bodybuilding. He’s big.”

Dennis Wolf Looks Lean, Shredded, and Downsized in Recent Training Update
Dennis Wolf looks lean and mean in recent training.
Retired German bodybuilder Dennis Wolf is looking lean, shredded and downsized in a recent video posted to a social media. The longtime veteran can be seen training hard and looking far smaller than he did in his competitive days. Despite losing a significant amount of weight, Wolf is still looking rather impressive.
Veteran bodybuilder Dennis Wolf is looking super impressive in his retirement. The once massive German bodybuilder who used to tip the scales at 300 pounds is now significantly downsized. Despite losing so much muscle mass, the downsizing appears to be working for him. He is lean and shredded. In fact, Wolf looks so impressive that some are even suggesting that he could compete in the classic physique division. While that seems unlikely, it does speak to how impressive Wolf appears in his retirement.
But if you thought that Dennis Wolf would completely refrain from training now that he’s done stepping on a bodybuilding stage, you would be sorely mistaken. Wolf is still training hard and still has a significant amount of muscle mass on his frame. While he may not be training as hard as he used to during his competitive days, Wolf is keeping himself in top form.
Lean and Shredded
No longer burdened by the pressure to put on massive amounts of muscle every offseason, Dennis Wolf is now focused on simply staying in good condition. From the looks of things, Wolf is succeeding in that goal without much trouble.
With so many veterans of the modern bodybuilding era passing away, it’s great to see that Dennis Wolf is in good health and still able to do the thing that he loves. While he won’t be weighing in at 300 pounds anytime soon, it is clear that Wolf is satisfied with his current physique and is living his best life.

Dennis Wolf Looking Back: I Hated To Eat Like A Bodybuilder
[embedded content]
Dennis Wolf, now slimmed down, talks about how he hated to eat food – especially in the quantities required for bodybuilding.
Dennis Wolf is an iconic former pro bodybuilder and was also one of the featured stars of the original Generation Iron. Unfortunately, in 2016 he suffered a spinal injury required surgery and put him out of commission. He attempted a comeback in 2018 but ultimately he had to retire from the sport. Since then, Wolf has trimmed down and started focusing on entrepreneurial pursuits. In our latest GI Exclusive, Dennis Wolf talks about his current diet and how he hated to eat like a mass monster bodybuilder.
Looking at Dennis Wolf now, you probably would have never known he was once a mass monster freak competing for the Mr. Olympia title. Much like Dorian Yates before him, Wolf decided to trim down quite a bit. He came off steroids and even detailed with us previously the medical realities of retiring and coming off PEDs.
Some bodybuilder like to continue the full bodybuilding lifestyle after retirement. A big example of this is Kai Greene – which is why each and every year fans speculate he will return for a comeback. That’s why we asked Dennis Wolf – is there any aspect of the bodybuilding lifestyle he continues? Does he still have a focused diet like most bodybuilders require?
Dennis Wolf admits that he now only eats three meals a day. He still focuses on healthy meals – but doesn’t consume anywhere near the same amount of calories as he once did. In fact, he admits that he dislikes eating food in general and was often struggling as a bodybuilder to stick to the mass monster diet.
“I eat probably three times a day… Honestly I hate to eat,” Dennis Wolf stated in our interview. He continued:
“After so many years forcing yourself. I wasn’t a good eater in the beginning, you know, when I started bodybuilding. Then I developed the skill that I could eat a lot. And now, I’m kind of away from it so I don’t like food anymore. I’m not eating chicken, for example, for a month now because I am sick of it.”
Dennis Wolf goes on to explain that when you are in the thick of the sport and passionate – you train yourself mentally to enjoy the mass amounts of eating. Now that he hasn’t had to be in that mindset – his typical tastes returned. He never liked eating in massive amounts and now he can return to that natural state.
It’s an interesting admission. One that Jay Cutler has made in one of our past interviews as well. He’s claimed that bodybuilding diets are basically force feeding diets. He’s not 100% wrong – mostly depending on your own typical food habits. If you are the kind of person with a slight appetite, bodybuilding diets can be a big mental challenge.
