Guy Cisternino: Bodybuilding Today Needs More Intensity
[embedded content]
Guy Cisternino talks about his bad luck in 2020 and how he wishes young bodybuilders today had more intensity.
It’s an understatement to say that 2020 was a bad year. That’s especially true for Guy Cisternino – but in a way that you might not expect. Beyond the quarantine, Cisternino had a string of bizarre bad luck that made his 2020 bodybuilding career disappointing to himself. But he doesn’t let him get too down so long as he can still train in the gym and help inspire the younger generation of bodybuilders.
But as he faces a new generation coming up in the ranks, he does have one wish for the future of bodybuilding. He wants there to be more young bodybuilders that exhibit the kind of training intensity he brings into the gym. Bodybuilders like Ronnie Coleman, Branch Warren, and Guy Cisternino are becoming a dying breed. According to Cisternino, there just aren’t that many bodybuilders who go truly hardcore in the gym. This goes beyond physique quality. It’s simply a mental attitude that Cisternino personally prefers. In our latest GI Exclusive interview, Guy Cisternino details his hopes for a new crop of bodybuilders that bring intensity back to the sport.
Nick Walker is one of the biggest standout young bodybuilders coming into the pro league today. There’s no doubting that he has a massive frame and the promise to be a threatening competitor ranking in the top spots of competitions. Guy Cisternino has no doubt of that either. But what he’s noticed is that Walker is so powerful – that he can lift heavy weight with ease. He puts up a massive bench press without making a sound.
While this doesn’t affect Nick Walker’s physique at the end of the day – it does find Cisternino longing for an older era of bodybuilding. Guy Cisternino is similar to bodybuilders like Branch Warren. When he trains in the gym – he goes extremely intense and hardcore. Yelling, loud noises, and bursts of intensity are common. That’s because he puts every ounce of himself into ever rep.
While there is certainly some correlation between intensity in training and effectiveness of your workouts – it’s not necessary to scream in the gym to be a talented bodybuilder. Ultimately, Cisternino is not criticizing the younger generation for problems with the quality of their physique. Instead, he’s simply lamenting a dying breed of personality in the sport. The kind of personality that partially made him love bodybuilding in the first place.
“A part of me just hopes that, man, maybe a couple of these kids will just carry that intensity on because I just don’t see it that often,” Guy Cisternino states in our interview. He continues:
“I think bodybuilding needs some intensity sometimes. I think you need guys like Dorian, like Ronnie, like Branch, like Kai, like me, like Flex, like Jose Raymond. I think you need that, you know? I think it makes it a little more fun.”
At the end of the day bodybuilding is a sport. But you’d be a fool to think that part of what makes sports great is the culture behind them. For Guy Cisternino, that hardcore intensity is what made him love the sport to a large degree. As he gets older and as he sees that intensity slowly fall to the wayside – he misses it.

INTERVIEW: Guy Cisternino Addresses Viral Gym Incident Video
Guy Cisternino breaks down in detail the gym argument video that went viral.
On May 13, 2021, pro bodybuilder Guy Cisternino posted a video on his Instagram account. Within a week, the video went viral not only in bodybuilding but beyond it. The video in question showcased Cisternino getting into a heated argument at the gym. The video has since brought extreme criticism and defense of Cisternino’s actions. In our latest GI Exclusive interview, Guy Cisternino sets the record straight and addresses the gym incident.
After we originally reported on the viral video of Guy Cisternino arguing at the gym – he reached out to us directly requesting an interview. We connected over video with Cisternino to go into more detail and get his perspective on the entire incident. The video itself cuts off right when the argument starts to heat up. Cisternino gives us a breakdown of exactly what happened.
Guy Cisternino starts out explaining that he believes the video was blown too far out of proportion. He acknowledges that the video cuts off early. Due to that the audience imagination ran rampant. Without context, the video could be seen as an aggressive move on Cisternino’s part. Or it can be seen as an understandable mishap. That’s why he wants to give further context on the moment in question.
Guy Cisternino goes on to explain that the men he argued with in the video were originally much closer than they appeared. Since they were off camera for majority of the clip, we only see them after they have slowly stepped away. This contributed to the criticisms when people watched the video.

Furthermore, Guy Cisternino points out that he asks them give him some space twice before he jumped off the machine. While he wasn’t 100% politely speaking to them – it was also mid set. He was under physical pressure and pushing his body while also trying to ask them to give him more space. They quickly got defensive and then Cisternino lost his cool.
“What everybody sees is me walk five feet away from the machine to go to the kids,” Guy Cisternino comments in our interview. He goes on:
“But what they don’t understand, is while this is all going on they are progressively backing up but they just keep talking… if they were actually where they were when I got off the machine and did what I did, I would be a complete shit. But that’s not what happened”
Guy Cisternino goes on to say that he was also filming on behalf of the gym. He argues that he was working. And even if it wasn’t on behalf of the gym, a pro bodybuilder training is doing their job. Not everyone knows this. And how could they? But the fact still remains valid.
Ultimately, while Guy Cisternino defends his actions he also understands that he’s not a perfect person. He doesn’t think the video deserved such scrutiny. At the same time, he did lose his temper and he acknowledges that.
“Should I have jumped off the machine. Absolutely not. Should I have said, ‘Let’s go outside?’ Absolutely not,” Guy Cisternino states in our interview. He continues:
“But I’m also at 39 years old…. I’m not going to take disrespect. And people are going to say, ‘Well, you were disrespecting him.’ I don’t think asking someone to get out of my plain view while I’m squatting is disrespectful. There’s a disconnect with this whole thing.”

Guy Cisternino Explodes, Yells at Gym Members During Legday Training
Guy Cisternino exploded in anger during a recent training session.
Guy Cisternino has recently gone viral as he was caught yelling at gym patrons during his training. The video clip of the 212 bodybuilder has been making the rounds and many people have different opinions on the issue.
Bodybuilding at the highest levels requires a great deal of focus and dedication. You can not expect to be one of the best in the world and half ass your training. You have to be willing to push yourself to the limit. The intensity required in training is on a whole other level. It’s what veteran bodybuilder Guy Cisternino understands well.
During a recent legday training session, Guy Cisternino exploded in anger at two gym patrons. The reason for his explosive rage was due to the other gym goers breaking his concentration during his set. Cisternino confronted the two male patrons as the confrontation intensified.
Angry Moment at the Gym
WATCH THE END!!!Lift with purpose and passion! Not everyone is here for the same reason, but gym etiquette and respect these days with cell phones, people with camera crews, fucking around, only training hard when the cameras rolling, isnt training. Have a dam purpose, go there with your purpose to better yourself, the whole “if it’s not filmed, it didn’t happen” mentality is complete bullshit. Train hard, let your hard work show the results and success will follow.
It’s clear that Guy Cisternino was distracted by the actions of the patrons. What’s unclear is exactly what the two men were doing that was so egregious that Cisternino needed to confront them.
More to the Story
As it stands, Cisternino released a follow up video explaining the situation in detail. It’s a pretty long video, clocking in at one hour and twenty minutes. You can take a look at the full video below.
Clearing the air about the hack video!

And the dude Dave I got nothing but respect for that dude for coming on. Next time we’re at @destinationdallastexas him and I are getting a training session on camera #Quadro style! Remember don’t assume and there’s always 2 sides to every story.
