Joey Swoll on Filming at Gyms: ‘Just Because You’re Comfortable Doesn’t Mean Other People Are’

Joey Swoll on Filming at Gyms: ‘Just Because You’re Comfortable Doesn’t Mean Other People Are’

Gym etiquette is one of Joey Swoll’s top priorities, especially with the rise of social media platforms. In a recent TikTok video, Swoll called out a female user for recording a man without consent in between sets during a workout.
Swoll has become a prominent fitness influencer by standing up for those who are forced to deal with “toxic gym culture.” This term refers to various forms of harassment, intimidation, and judgment that some people encounter at the gym.
One example of this behavior was captured by the TikTok account “xitlahly” in a viral video. The clip showed a man resting between his sets on a machine. A woman approached the adjacent machine and began to use it while recording. The man glanced at her briefly and then shook his head in disapproval before continuing his training session.

Whether it’s disrespect or someone refusing to share gym equipment, Swoll hopes to make gyms more inviting environments for everyone. His movement has spread and even reached bodybuilding legend Arnold Schwarzenegger, who praised him for his positive efforts in fitness.
“I Understand Why This Man Is So Frustrated,” Joey Swoll Reacts to Female TikToker Recording in Gym
While fitness centers are for the public, Joey Swoll believes everyone deserves the right to feel comfortable when they train. Sometimes, that means not being recorded in the gym without consent.
“This is why so many want filming banned in gyms. If you can’t film with respect for others, you shouldn’t film at all.”
“I understand why this man is so frustrated and shaking his head. Your camera is pointed directly at him where you’re filming more of him than you are of yourself in your video. That would upset anybody. Not to mention, with all of these cameras and tripods popping up in gyms all over the place, people are getting frustrated because they just want to go to the gym to work out,” Joey Swoll said.
“You have to understand, just because you feel comfortable to film yourself at the gym doesn’t mean other people feel the same and this keeps a lot of people from going to the gym. Your wanting to film never takes priority over someone feeling comfortable enough to go work out in the gym and better themselves and a lot of people on your page told you this.”

In Swoll’s opinion, filming in the gym should be done responsibly and with respect to others.
“If you’re going to film, you have to film responsibly and with respect to other people. If you can’t do that, don’t film at all. You need to do better. Mind your own business.”
This isn’t the first time Swoll has come to the defense of a gym-goer on TikTok. Earlier this year, he took a shot at a Female user who called a man ‘fuc**ng feral’ for looking at her inside the gym. Swoll, taken aback by her actions, made an example out of her by underlining the difference between glancing and staring.
Even bodybuilders have become subject to toxic gym culture. NPC athlete Charly Young made light of his concerning situation last Sept. when a man cursed at him repeatedly for simply posing with his shirt off inside the gym. Swoll praised Young for his maturity and condemned the aggressive man’s behavior.

Joey Swoll has ambitious plans, and his movement to correct gym etiquette has grown. As for his latest subject, Swoll believes in filming others with respect, or just not at all.

Ontario’s New COVID-19 Restrictions Include Closing Gyms

Ontario’s New COVID-19 Restrictions Include Closing Gyms

Ontario will tighten up restrictions after COVID-19 cases continue to rise.
Ontario has announced that there will be more restrictions put in place due to COVID-19. Cases have continued to rise as different variants are being discovered and this has caused a new plan to be put in place. Ontario government says that it will return to a modified Step 2 plan of reopening.
This plan is centered around the limitation of social gathering, including closing down gyms. This does not include athletes training for the Olympics, Paralympics, or select professional and elite amateur sports.

The new restrictions went into effect on Wednesday. All schools moved to remote learning on Wednesday and this will continue until at least January 17. Also, those who are vaccinated under 12 years old will only be required to quarantine for five days when they contract COVID-19. If they continue to have symptoms, they must continue to isolate until they reach 24 hours of being symptom-free.
This decision comes after cases continue to rise. In December, Ontario decided to limit indoor dining to 50% capacity and set a curfew of 11 P.M. Below, you can find the full list of restrictions that have been put into place.
Ontario’s New COVID-19 Restrictions

Indoor dining at restaurants and bars closed.
Only outdoor dining, takeout, drive through and delivery permitted.
Social gathering limits reduced to five people indoors and 10 people outdoors.
Retail stores, malls, public libraries and personal care services limited to 50 per cent capacity.
Saunas, steam rooms and oxygen bars closed.
Capacity at weddings, funerals and religious services limited to 50 per cent capacity per room.
Outdoor services must have two-metre distancing between all attendees.
Employees must work remotely unless their work requires them to be on site.
Gyms and other indoor recreational sport facilities closed, except athletes training for the Olympics and Paralympics and certain professional and elite sports leagues.
Outdoor facilities are permitted but with a 50 per cent capacity limit on spectators.
Museums, galleries, zoos, science centres, historic sites, amusement parks, festivals and other attractions closed.
Outdoor establishments allowed with restrictions and capacity limits.
Indoor meeting and event spaces closed with limited exceptions, except those with outdoor spaces, which can operate with restrictions.

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues on, different areas are making decisions on how to handle it. For Ontario, they have moved quickly and have taken some major steps. It will be interesting to see if anything else comes out of this decision.

Los Angeles Now Requires Proof Of Vaccine For Indoor Activities, Including Gyms

Los Angeles Now Requires Proof Of Vaccine For Indoor Activities, Including Gyms

Los Angeles is tightening up on protocols as the winter months approach.
Los Angeles might not be requiring citizens to get vaccinated from COVID but there are certain ways to persuade them and this includes tightening up restrictions. On Monday, the city began a mandate where a proof of vaccination is needed to enter restaurants, movie theaters, malls, salons, and yes — gyms.
This expands on an original mandate where vaccination proof was only required when entering bars, lounges, nightclubs, breweries, wineries, and distilleries. This is now one of the nation’s strictest vaccine mandates. This means verification is required at more locations within the city’s limits that other areas.

Below, you can find a full list of indoor residents where it is necessary to show proof of vaccination.

Bars, lounges, nightclubs, breweries, wineries
Restaurants, coffee shops, food courts, banquet halls
Gyms and fitness venues
Entertainment and recreation venues like movie theaters, malls and concert venues, sports arenas, convention centers, museums, bowling alleys, arcades, card rooms, play areas
Spas, nail salons, hair salons, barbershops
City of L.A. facilities

If you are not vaccinated, you must provide a negative COVID test taken within 72 hours of entering an indoor area. Patrons will bellowed to go inside briefly if they need to use the bathroom, place an order or pick up an item. A mask must be worn while performing these tasks.

Later in the month, venues will be able to issue citations to those who do not follow protocols. A fine can be as much as $1,000 for a second violation and far more for multiple violations.
According to county data, 72% of L.A. county residents 12 years of age or older have been fully vaccinated. There are many different forms of proof that can be shown.

White CDC COVID-19 vaccination record card
Yellow World Health Organization vaccine card
Documentation of vaccination from a health care provide
A California Immunization Registry vaccination card
A digital vaccination record issued by California Department of Public Health
A digital vaccination record from an approved company like Healthvana, Carbon Health, CommonPass, CLEAR Health Pass or VaxYes.

When the mandate was passed, it was said that this was not a way to force patrons to get vaccinated in Los Angeles. They believe that if they do not want to get the vaccine, there are certain rules that must be followed. For those who do not want to receive the shot, this seems like it is going to be difficult to enter indoor areas.
Ultimately, this is the goal and Los Angeles has been tightening up in recent weeks. It will be interesting to see if there is a change in vaccination numbers or if any further protocols are coming from L.A.

LeBron James Bets Big On The Future Of The Gym With Tonal

LeBron James made his latest investment in the fitness industry.
LeBron James is one of the best basketball players in the world. Since being drafted first overall in 2003, James has taken over the basketball world along with venturing into other business opportunities. James is more than a basketball player and has done plenty of good along with investing his earnings into great products.
The latest is Tonal, advertised as the world’s smartest home gym. On Wednesday, the company announced that James is the latest investor and brand partner. Tonal posted to Instagram to make an announcement.
“@kingjames. Powered by Tonal.

Now he’s stepping into the future of fitness to elevate his game. We’re so excited to partner with the four-time basketball champion helping him train smarter, using personalized digital weight and artificial intelligence to continue to dominate on and off the court.
#BeYourStrongest”

LeBron James is entering his 19th year in the NBA. The 36-year-old continues to be in incredible shape as he has spent millions of dollars on his body over the course of his career. This is to keep himself at the top of his game and it has worked wonders. In year 18 in the league, James averaged 25 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 7.8 assists per game. The four-time champion is looking to add more to his resume on the court but has done plenty of work off as well.

James is one his way to becoming the first active NBA player to notch billionaire status. He has earned well over $200 million from his contracts but has made even more off the court. James currently has a billion-dollar lifetime contract with Nike, owns 14 Blaze Pizza franchises, and has stakes in Beats Electronics. Tonal is next on the list.

Tonal is the new age of a home gym. It is mounted on the wall and features over 200 workouts. Tonal does not have dumbbells or barbells but uses electromagnetism to create resistance. Tonal saw a massive strike in sales during the COVID-19 pandemic as gyms were forced to close their doors.
On its website, Tonal is priced at $2,995 plus tax, to purchase the gym. This comes with a monthly membership that is $49 per month.
LeBron James is not the first notable athlete to put his or her name on Tonal. This list includes Serena Williams, Steph Curry, Tony Gonzalez, Klay Thompson, and Michelle Wie.
Tonal has landed many big names but might have just partnered with the biggest in sports. James has been a smart businessman who does not put his name on a product unless it has legs. With the recent surge in Tonal sales, it is not surprising to see James get in on the action.

How Bodybuilders Spent $10,000 on Home Gyms as the Covid Crisis Persists

How Bodybuilders Spent $10,000 on Home Gyms as the Covid Crisis Persists

Preparing for a bodybuilding competition takes an average of 16 weeks. That amount of time is enough under normal circumstances. Well, welcome to the new normal where everything has been thrown into chaos. Bodybuilders are increasingly getting anxious as the Covid pandemic sinks deeper into every aspect of their lives. Not only are they lacking equipment to train with but they are also not getting the right diet that befits a bodybuilder.
Bodybuilders and other fitness enthusiasts no longer have the luxury of walking to a nearby gym to train with their colleagues. Persistent lockdowns have confined most of them to their homes, where there is little or nothing to use for training. That is not to mention their special dietary needs which have been reduced to a little more than an ordinary meal. For those bodybuilders who were training hard for upcoming competitions pre-Covid, months of hard training have been wiped out and they have to start all over again. The worst thing about this madness is that we are not sure when it will come to an end. There is wave after wave of this monster, and every subsequent wave is proving deadlier than previous ones. Luckily, the vaccine is here with us, thanks to the many hours put up by our scientists.
At-Home Training for Bodyduilders
When Covid-19 came knocking, many employers advised their staff to work from home to stop the virus from spreading. Although a bitter pill to swallow, many people quickly adjusted to it and operations resumed, though a little slower. The same can’t be said in the case of bodybuilders and other athletes. For people from other professions, all they needed was mostly a laptop and stable internet connection to perform their normal tasks. A bodybuilder, on the other hand, will require a whole lot of equipment to mimic the normal gym. As expected, this equipment is very expensive and can’t just be found anywhere. Bodybuilders were forced to order their gear online because the lockdown was still in effect.
