Bodybuilding legend Jay Cutler continues to work toward a physique transformation before turning 50. In a recent YouTube video, Cutler detailed a 10-exercise leg day training session and compared body fat ratios from now versus when he was the reigning Mr. Olympia. 
Cutler is a titan of the bodybuilding industry, having staked his claim against greats when mass monsters ruled the IFBB Pro League Men’s Open division. In addition to pushing mainstays such as Dennis Wolf, Johnnie Jackson, and Branch Warren, Cutler succeeded in winning the sport’s most prestigious title on four occasions at Mr. Olympia (2006-2007, 2009-2010).
In 2006, the Massachusetts native served up one of the biggest upsets the sport had seen when he dethroned eight-time Mr. Olympia Ronnie Coleman. In order to defeat ‘The King,’ Cutler said he adopted many of his adversary’s training practices to cultivate an undeniable physique. 

Perhaps Cutler’s most powerful attribute was his lower body, which he used to set himself apart from his peers. His stage presence and dominance shined bright in 2009 when he cemented his name in bodybuilding history with an iconic quad stomp pose en route to becoming the first man to regain a Mr. Olympia title that was lost. 
In 2009, Cutler’s quadriceps became the talk of the town as they became his secret weapon to reclaim his physique’s glory. With his arch-nemesis, Jackson, beside him, who had taken the title away from him the previous year, Cutler had a point to prove.
Cutler’s quad stomp is now part of bodybuilding history! It’s amazing to think that no one else had ever come back to win the Olympia after falling down the ranks. But Cutler did it! Even though he had some tough competition from guys like Jackson and Warren, that quad stomp gave him the edge he needed to come out on top. What a moment!
Even though Cutler stepped away from the sport in 2013, his passion for working out remained steady. Late last year, he revealed that he was transforming his body to fulfill a personal goal, which he’s titled the ‘Fit-for-50’ challenge. Targeting his best physique in over 10 years, Cutler shared his latest leg day workout for fans to try out.

After the training session, Cutler once again highlighted that he’s not taking on any heavy drug cycles for his current transformation nor will he partake in low-carb days. 

“Leg day, I’m not going to hit poses, next week starts the posing actually. Like I mentioned, I think we’re 13 weeks from the ultimate – which I don’t know what that ultimate is… once again I’m in uncharted territory because I’m going to do this prep without the contracts, without a big prize pot at the end, there’s not going to be a $400,000 or $200,000 purse; this is for me, the fans, so I’m going to put a leisurely effort in. When I say leisurely, we are not going full tilt, no heavy drug cycles, no crazy low-carb days.” 

Cutler specified that he carried only 3% body fat during his time as a Mr. Olympia champion. However, for his current look, he feels sticking with a 6-8% range would be best. In addition, he intends to maintain a weight of 235 pounds. 

What I’m trying to do, is I want to be able to showcase this transformation. This is a lifestyle transformation. Someone who is already in good shape, I think I’m around 12-14% body fat and to get right to the 8-6% range, which would be relatively lean, not the 3% that you saw on the Olympia stage that required the last six weeks of drastic dieting. Although, I am looking forward to trying to turn it up in the last six weeks and seeing how far I can push myself and maintain 235: that is the goal,” said Jay Cutler. 

Given his recent undertaking, Cutler has been open and honest about his physique goals. He took part in a CutlerTV interview recently, where he laid out the high-protein diet he’s employed to fuel his fitness demands. 
While he won’t be appearing on a contest stage anytime soon, the world is excited to see Jay Cutler’s latest transformation. Surely more physique updates will follow when he makes a special appearance in Romania for the 2023 Masters Olympia contest in August.

Bodybuilding legend Jay Cutler moved on from professional competition years ago but always has his finger on the pulse of the sport. He’s not lost his passion for fitness and is currently working towards a body transformation challenge. In a recent video posted on YouTube, Cutler talked about his similarities to Strongman icon Brian Shaw and shared his thoughts on the upcoming 2023 Pittsburgh Pro and lowering his carb intake to get leaner for the ‘Fit for 50’ challenge.
Jay Cutler first made headlines for his insane muscle mass, size, and overall proportion as a Men’s Open competitor in the IFBB Pro League in 1999. He racked up three Arnold Classic titles and graced the covers of several magazines in the early 2000s. His fierce rivalry with legendary bodybuilder Ronnie Coleman elevated his star power.
Cutler fell short of the eight-time Mr. Olympia on four occasions before finally securing his maiden Sandow trophy in 2006. He added a successful title defense the following year and reclaimed the title in 2009 by dethroning Dexter Jackson. With four Olympia wins under his belt, Cutler hung up his posing trunks after a final appearance in 2013.

Earlier this year, Cutler gave his take on using steroids and cycling on and off gear to achieve the results he wanted. However, he stressed the importance of being consistent with training and nutrition to sculpt the ideal physique regardless.
The 49-year-old offered some of his best workout tips on developing a gigantic chest two months ago. He recommended feeling the contraction in each movement and laid out the exercises he liked to utilize for the training session. He’s currently gearing up for the ‘Fit for 50’ body transformation challenge he set for himself. He shared an impressive physique update where he showed off his monstrous package as part of the challenge.

In a recent YouTube video, Jay Cutler found similarities between Strongman legend Brian Shaw and himself after the 2023 WSM.

Legendary strongman Brian Shaw is one of the most successful strength competitors of all time. He won four World’s Strongest Man contests (2011, 2013, 2015, 2016) and competed in the finals of the competition for a historic 16 times. He stands as the fourth most decorated strongman in history with 26 titles.
Shaw was last seen in action at the 2023 World’s Strongest Man a month ago. He revealed he contracted an infection that resulted in him nearly losing his leg while getting ready for the event. He detailed how he overcame the setback and identified the infection as a severe case of leg cellulitis. Fortunately, he recovered in time and made his way to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina for the show.
The 41-year-old completed his final WSM showing with a record-breaking performance on the Stone-Off to get his entry into the finals. In the end, he finished the event in seventh place. Following the result, Shaw admitted age may have factored into his performance and called for a change in the format of the show last week.
“It sounds like he’s got a lot of great things going on that his transition will be similar to mine,” said Cutler. “It’s kind of funny because we have a lot of similarities in our career, four times champ, and I finished six my last. So when you were saying he finished seventh I was like I got six the last one.”
Matt: “We always joke about that. There’s Brian Shaw and Jay Cutler, both got three Arnolds. You guys are so alike. Me being around both of you I see the similarities, it’s almost eerie. It’s like he’s the Strongman version of you.”
Coleman was left stunned after watching some of Shaw’s most insane lifts in Strongman contests earlier this month.
Cutler shares his expectations for the 2023 Pittsburgh Pro
Many of the top Men’s Open contenders will take their talents to the 2023 Pittsburgh Pro for guest posing appearances, including Olympia runner-up Derek Lunsford, fellow standout Nick Walker, former two-time Mr. Olympia Mamdouh ‘Big Ramy’ Elssbiay, and freshly minted Arnold Classic champ Samson Dauda.
Jay Cutler believes Ramy has the most pressure on his shoulders given his dethroning at the 2022 Mr. Olympia and expects Lunsford to make a statement another time after his previous Pittsburgh Pro showing last year.
“I think Derek’s going to wow people again. I think Nick’s on a mission. I saw he’s starting prep. Will Ramy show up and what will he look like? I think that’s the big question. I think Ramy will be big as hell and Samson will be big. We’ve seen some pictures of him. He’s going to scare some people. So, I think Ramy will be huge, Samson will be huge, Nick will be huge, Derek will be crazy and better condition than last year because he’s going to have more muscle.”
“I expect the house to come down man. I wish I was going to be there.”

Cutler reveals goal for ‘Fit for 50’ challenge
Jay Cutler opened up on his ambitions for the ‘Fit for 50’ challenge. While he has no intentions of coming back to competition, his aim is to get leaner.
“I’m making a priority to get my workouts in so I eat one meal. I haven’t done cardio fasted I stopped doing that. I did a little bit after training today so I try to get the training in to get in front of everything else so it’s done.
“That’s what I kinda dealt with when I downsized. That’s the difference like I look good in certain but in my back the muscle’s not filling out the skin so I feel like sometimes when I stand I have little folds and stuff. I’m hoping that what’s going to do over this time of dieting, it’s going to shrink that a little bit but also give me a little more fullness to the muscle where I don’t really want to get a lot bigger but I really think the nutrition is going to play the key in this and having enough protein and obviously carbohydrates mixed in there but I’m trying to scale back. I would like to do a little lower carbs even though I was a huge carb advocate just because I got bigger on that where I’m not trying to be bigger. I’m just trying to be leaner so that’s kinda the goal by the time I finish this thing.”
Jay Cutler is confident he could significantly improve his physique with proper nutrition, training, and only using TRT (testosterone replacement therapy). Last month, he compared his training style to that of six-time Mr. Olympia Dorian Yates. In stark contrast to Cutler’s volume-heavy approach, Yates would push himself to near failure each time he worked out.
Last week, Cutler identified a need to add volume in certain areas of his physique. He’s been consuming a high-protein diet along with regular workouts to achieve the goal.

Motivation is at an all-time high for Jay Cutler who is currently transforming his physique before turning 50. In a recent YouTube video on JayCutlerTV, the bodybuilding legend discussed his ambitions for 2023 and the high-protein diet he’s using to rebuild his body. 
Jay Cutler was a proven force during his time as an active Men’s Open pro. He is well known in the community for his rivalry with eight-time Mr. Olympia winner Ronnie Coleman. In 2006, Cutler dethroned Coleman with a blend of conditioning and mass. After upsetting the long-standing champ, Cutler would eventually lose the title in 2008 to Dexter Jackson. 
The following year (2009), Cutler became the only Men’s Open pro in history to regain a Mr. Olympia title that was lost. Retiring with four Sandow trophies, the Massachusetts native remains one of the sport’s most popular and visible ambassadors. 

Late last year, Cutler’s physique update spurred comeback discussions online. He trained and posed in the company of fitness influencer Lexx Little. Shortly after the collaboration, Cutler had to inform his fans that a return to the sport was not a part of his agenda. Instead, he explained that he was transforming his body for a fit-for-50 challenge. Taking to another podcast, Cutler discussed his latest progress and the types of food he’s utilizing to get back in shape. 
Jay Cutler Reveals Struggles of Fit-for-50 Goal: ‘There’s Holes in My Physique & Atrophy in Certain Areas’
Cutler believes muscle atrophy and ‘holes’ in his physique are preventing him from returning to guest pose. He shared that his legs, biceps, and lats are all areas where he’s struggling to regain volume. 

“You know what, I’ll be honest, it’s motivating, so… we asked for – I asked people what motivates you to go to the gym, the simplest term is progress right? When you see your body changing that’s where you in a positive way, whether you’re losing weight or adding muscle or getting leaner,” said Jay Cutler. “It’s like you’re trying to prove things but the question is does this give me more motivation when people are like, ‘Are you doing the Masters?’ But it does not make me think, ‘Maybe I should do it.’ And I’ll be honest, that’s one thing about [me] I’m very transparent, I have no no no no intentions of getting on stage and competing.” 
“Listen man, I would love to feel like I could get up there and guest pose at a contest but I don’t even think I could do that, no. Because I just, my body still has somehow can I say this… there’s some holes. There’s some holes in my physique that I feel are just biceps the legs are definitely smaller, atrophy in certain areas. The lats aren’t ever going to come back to what they were. For me, I think it’s just going to hurt it a little bit.” 

According to Cutler, his biggest obstacle was consuming food during the height of his career. Despite the reservations about his physique, Cutler underlined that he’s happy with the way he looks today. 
“As I lead into, I’m pretty much back on May 2nd. That’s when I kind of start this full push of this thing. And we got to get a physique update here pretty soon before I leave. I got to have to lock into a gym session at some point, I leave on, I think I leave next week.” 
“My appetite is really good. That was my biggest fear is when you get a little older, people’s problem is, when they’re trying to get bigger, even these young kids; they don’t eat enough. Even you know, you have to eat a ton to stay at it right? So, I’m hoping that continues because if you remember and a lot of our viewers don’t actually know this, my biggest obstacle was the food when I was really big.” 
“Sometimes it was obviously the anabolics I took too, right? Yeah, so, I think now doing it with a very very little help in that area it’s going to make it a lot better, I think my look is going to be a lot better. I’m happy with the way I look today. Yesterday I felt really good in the gym. Today, I’m going to get a good workout in.” 
Cutler Talks High-Protein Focused Diet
Cutler mentioned that he’s tracking his food carefully and named chicken, steak, and bison as his protein sources. 

“I ate good yesterday, that was one thing, I’m trying to stay on track keeping with the food. Like I said, the title of our last video was ‘I quit cardio,’ and it’s kind of true. In the comments people were like, ‘Dude you’re walking around the neighborhood,’ this was kind of stop-and-going because Capone was with us. At the same time, this is considered cardio right?” 
“I’m focusing more on chicken and steak from Trifecta and bison and that kind of stuff,” added Cutler. 

The last time Cutler took a closer look at nutrition he discussed the differences between bulking and lean-bulk diets. He shared that most people today outside of the bodybuilding industry desire a leaner body. To achieve this, Cutler emphasized the importance of setting realistic goals, overcoming challenges, and making recovery a priority. 
Upon announcing his fit-for-50 goal, Cutler laid out a framework that he plans to follow. The four-time Mr. Olympia made it clear he’s exclusively using testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) over more powerful compounds like Trenbolone.

Bodybuilding legend Jay Cutler was a key figure in the Men’s Open division during the 2000s. In his latest interview, Cutler discussed the stigma of steroid use in film, Dwayne ‘The Rock Johnson, and his rivalry with eight-time Mr. Olympia Ronnie Coleman. 
In 2006, Cutler finally dethroned Coleman at Mr. Olympia after multiple second-place finishes. Competing actively, Cutler separated himself from the rest of the Open class with exceptional size and conditioning. He’s known for the iconic quad stomp pose and is regarded for having some of the most detailed quads in the history of the sport. 

Cutler retired from bodybuilding in 2013. Even though he’s not seen a competition stage in years, Cutler takes his health, fitness, and longevity seriously. He routinely shares motivating workout sessions with fitness influencers. In a collaboration with Lexx Little, Cutler’s physique went viral. Fans immediately questioned if a return was possible for the 2023 Masters Olympia in August. 
Unfortunately, Cutler quickly shot down any chance of a comeback days after his progress photo circulated online. Instead, the four-time Mr. Olympia shared that he was transforming his physique as part of a ‘Fit for 50’ challenge. In his most recent undertaking, he joined the Factz Podcast to shed light on his career, Dwayne Johnson, and his experiences with TRT/performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs). 
Jay Cutler Talks The Rock, Popularity of TRT & Steroid Misconceptions in Film : ‘Everyone’s Protocols Are Different’ 
Cutler said he was able to offset his wide waist by building his legs and shoulders, which helped his x-frame.
“It’s just really hard to compare the physiques, the structure is usually different. The smaller waist, I wasn’t blessed with a super small waist so I had to really offset by building my legs outwards and my shoulders outwards to make that x-frame.” 
Given the availability of equipment, food, and PEDs, Cutler believes bodybuilders today carry more size than in Arnold Schwarzenegger‘s era. 

“As you know, the guys got a lot bigger than in Arnold’s day. Food, you know, equipment, drugs, everything. The science has become a lot deeper but at the same time, guys have paid great money to do this for a living, sponsors, the supplement game is huge, it’s a big support of sports and nutrition for the industry. So guys can get paid to literally eat sleep and train. That’s their job,” Cutler said. 
“Oh, I can look at someone [and tell right away] yes. I can tell,” said Cutler. “The truth is I feel like diets and everything else, many guys can really dominate without having to struggle as hard if that makes sense.” 

Cutler stressed that there are misconceptions about TRT/steroid use and said the compounds ‘never made him crazy.’ 

“No. It [steroids] wasn’t like that. Usually, the build up, that’s the thing with the films and everything, they portray like a guy takes a shot of testosterone and he gets aggressive; that’s a misconception. I can tell you that. It never made me crazy. And listen, we talk about TRT which is popular now and I know there’s a lot of accusations of who or who isn’t on TRT. Obviously, Dwayne’s name comes up a lot and whatever else.” 
“Like I said, all my blood tests and I was very monitored. I had – my ex-wife was a nurse practitioner, so she was very up to speed on like what the protocols were and what we needed to test. Blood work can only show so much.” 

When asked about Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s alleged use of PEDs, Cutler had the following to say: 

“He doesn’t ever go out there and to give him some sort of respect factor, like he doesn’t go out there and say I’m natural. He just doesn’t talk about it. You know, I know his work ethic, I would figure that at his age, I mean it’s so common, that a lot of people are on TRT. What he does is number one his business. I come out and say, ‘Hey I’m on TRT.’ Because let’s be real: looking at my physique at the wildly muscled look of 300 pounds and I was winning Olympias at 270, if I claimed I was natural, you would have killed me.” 
“Everyone’s protocols are different. So guys genetically don’t have to use what other guys may have to use.” 
“You had different compounds that kind of would be thrown into a protocol and not everyone would use the same thing but your base would basically be testosterone and then you just, nutrition would have to be on point, and you give yourself four months to get in the best shape possible.” 
Cutler Touches on Ronnie Coleman Rivalry & Chasing Size During Career 
Before praising Ronnie Coleman as one of the greatest bodybuilders of all time, Cutler named Claude Van Damme and Sylvester Stallone as early inspirations. 

“I was overly big, I wouldn’t have been attracted to it, remember, I was married for most of my career. And my whole goal was to be the best bodybuilder,” Cutler said. “In the beginning, Arnold was. Honestly, Van Damme and Stallone were my first heroes. I just thought their physiques were unbelievable at the time.” 
“He [Ronnie Coleman] arguably, people question but probably the greatest ever. Arnold obviously, he’s huge. But Coleman had a crazy physique but for me, the first couple were like wow I’m actually second-best. I hate the term you’re the first loser because you’re still right there, right. You’re kind of in line, the problem is there was a curse in bodybuilding where a guy that places second — he usually doesn’t win. So, that was a curse and I actually broke that curse.” 
As of late, Jay Cutler discussed which former Mr. Olympias would have held their own against today’s lineup of Open talent. Cutler and Milos Sarcev agreed that six-time winner Dorian Yates and Coleman would contend for gold even today.

The last time the 49-year-old looked at The Rock’s alleged use of steroids, Cutler said he respected the superstar for choosing not to talk about the subject publicly. Meanwhile, podcast giant Joe Rogan recently called on The Rock to come clean about his use after Brian Johnson’s (Liver King) steroid cycle was leaked online.

Urs Kalecinski is leaving no opportunity to learn from the greats and recently partnered with Jay Cutler for an off-season back workout in Germany. Kalecinski is Germany’s flag bearer in the IFBB Pro League’s Classic Physique division. His emergence in the top end of the division has been astonishing and quick. After a few respectable performances, ‘The Miracle Bear’ finished the 2021 competitive season with a surprising 4th place finish at his Olympia debut.
He kicked off 2022 with a third spot at the 2022 Arnold Classic and secured a win at the 2022 Boston Pro, earning direct qualification to the 2022 Olympia. He also competed at the 2022 Kuwait Classic Pro to bag another win and walked away with a third-place finish at the 2022 Olympia.
Kalecinski last competed at the 2023 Arnold Classic Physique and managed to get a runner-up finish in spite of having to deal with food poisoning a few days before the show. He is now working relentlessly to build a more refined version of his body for the next competitive season.
Recently, he partnered with legendary bodybuilder Jay Cutler for a training session. A 4-time Mr. Olympia, Cutler is revered for his mindful approach to training. As a result, he was able to lead a much healthier life in retirement without having to put up with the consequences of an arduous bodybuilding lifestyle. He has accustomed well to the age of the internet and social media and remains one of the most prominent voices of the sport.
Cutler and Kalecinski did a back workout together. So let’s delve into the magical world of bodybuilding and see how they maintain their impeccable physiques with training.

The back workout was Kalecinski and Cutler’s second joint training session with each other. They partnered for a shoulder workout back in December 2022. Reminiscing the experience, Cutler stated:
“Last time we trained together… you were very depleted and it was one week out (of the 2023 Arnold Classic). So now we’re actually spending time together when we’re both in our off-season because I start my transformation on May 1st.”
With that, the duo jumped into the workout and pushed each other to do better throughout the session.
Lat Pulldowns
Cutler and his companion commenced the training session with lat pulldowns for stimulating the latissimus dorsi muscles. The duo worked with a plate-loaded iso-lateral machine to warm up the upper body posterior muscles and executed a few sets.

Bent Over Dumbbell Rows
Performing this compound movement is a crucial component of developing mass and strength in the upper posterior muscles. Bent over dumbbell rows engage all the pulling muscles and help with complete back development.
The bodybuilder duo pushed through some heavy sets of the movement as The Miracle Bear could not help but marvel at Cutler’s infectious enthusiasm.
“I love his work ethic. Close to 50 and still don’t give a s***” Urs Kalecinski exclaimed.
Machine Pullovers
This variation of pullovers has similar benefits as the cable pullovers. It has several benefits like improved mind-muscle connection, trunk and scapular stability, increased strength and muscle hypertrophy. Pullovers primarily work the lats and pectoral muscles. Cutler has spoken about the efficacy of pullovers for back development on many occasions. While Explaining the benefits of this exercise this time, Jay Cutler said:
“This is an ideal exercise to really bring out the v-taper which a lot of gyms don’t have.”
Cutler and Kalecinski absolutely wrecked some heavy sets of pullovers on a selectorized machine to bring that v-taper out and took to the next exercise.

While chatting with Urs and his associates during the workout, Cutler opined that Urs can definitely become an Olympia champion in future. He further stated that even if he doesn’t win right now, Urs is a fan favorite and has already captured the sport fans’ imagination.
“All it takes is for him to deserve it even if he doesn’t win or if he’s already winning. What I mean is he’s right there, he’s a fan favorite and if he spends more time in the US, he’s gonna dominate the US market too with popularity. He just needs to be there more,” Jay Cutler said.
He added:
“Here I see it. This is the first time I came to Germany for this interaction and every fan was there for him. I said who’s the best bodybuilder in Germany and they say Urs! And for that not to be an Open guy is a different world for me.”
T-Bar Rows
This compound movement contributes significantly to building a thick back. T-Bar row is a complete back exercise that works all the pulling muscles in the back. Cutler and Kalecinski cranked out a few high-volume sets of this exercise to stimulate the back muscles more before taking to the next movement.
Seated Machine Rows
The training partners next performed a few sets of machine seated rows to work the back muscles. It is an excellent way to build the back as stabilization is not required to perform the movement. Seated machine rows work all the major muscles like latissimus dorsi, rhomboids, erector spinae and trapezius. After going through some grueling sets of the movement, Cutler and Kalecinski worked with a vertical pulling movement next.

Bent Over Cable Straight Arm Pulldowns
The duo wrapped up the training session by getting some solid sets of this exercise under the belt. Straight arm pulldowns stimulate the latissimus dorsi, posterior deltoids, triceps brachii and teres minor muscles. Additionally, they activate the levator scapulae during the eccentric phase of the movement.
After performing a few sets of the movement, Jay Cutler and Urs Kalecinski called it a day in the gym.

Their growth and success can be attributed to the mindset of discipline and consistency. The 2023 competitive season is getting closer and looking at the intensity in training, we can certainly expect big things.

Jay Cutler, Milos Sarcev Compare Eras: ‘Dorian Yates/Ronnie Coleman Would Be Super Competitive Today’

Bodybuilding legend Jay Cutler still follows the sport closely since retirement in 2013. In a recent Cutler Cast episode, Cutler joined Milos Sarcev to break down how every former Mr. Olympia winner would fare against today’s Open class. 
While building a successful career in the IFBB Pro League, Cutler reached the top of the sport in 2006 after dethroning the eight-time Mr. Olympia Ronnie Coleman. Inspired by his rival’s training practices, Cutler revealed some of the sacrifices it took to catch up with Coleman. He utilized high-volume training and ate 140 egg whites a day to maintain his Olympia-caliber physique. 

Given the recent changes to the Men’s Open division, Cutler believes the category is moving back into an era similar to 90s bodybuilding. He supported the claim by pointing to the success Samson Dauda and Andrew Jacked enjoyed at the 35th annual Arnold Classic, where shape and beauty prevailed against mass and size.  
In their latest endeavor, Cutler and Sarcev took a closer look at all former Mr. Olympias, and whether or not they would be competitive against today’s crop of Open talent. 
Jay Cutler & Milos Sarcev Share Opinions on How Former Mr. Olympias Would Fare Today
Before assessing each Mr. Olympia winner, Sarcev touched on Lou Ferrigno’s chances of success. 
 “I was there in ’92 [for Lou Ferrigno] and he was just not competitive. And then, they thought maybe in ’93 he was going to do better but he didn’t. Then, finally, in ’94 they told him to do the Masters you know, he had the good enough condition and size but not good enough for the 90s. I doubt [he would do better today]. It’s still – proportionally when you think, width x-frame, conditioning, eh.” 
Despite the dominance of Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sarcev isn’t convinced he’d shine on today’s Olympia stage. However, they both agreed Coleman and Dorian Yates would be ‘super competitive’ if they contended in the current era. 

“Well, listen, he [Arnold Schwarzenegger] was so dominant back in the day right, but I think even you mentioned, I watched your Jay Walk the other day and there was a year maybe where Sergio could have beaten him. In 1972 in Germany, yeah,” Milos Sarcev said. 
“Arnold, he defended his title against no one at one point right?” says Jay Cutler.
“Sergio Oliva, if he would come in crazy shredded condition that he never probably knew back in the day how to do it, but that physique, shredded and dry would be super competitive in any era including now,” Sarcev explained. 
“We know Dorian Yates and Ronnie Coleman these guys would all be competitive right,” said Cutler. 
“After Dorian it was Ronnie, Ronnie at his best, which I think is ’98, but ’98, ’99, 2001 Arnold Classic, 2003 Olympia – yeah he would be super competitive. Yeah [he’d win], okay, yeah,” Sarcev confirms. 

Sarcev believes three-time Mr. Olympia Sergio Oliva and eight-time champ Lee Haney would have held their own against today’s Open talent as well. Though, he dismissed the chances of Larry Scott, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Franco Columbo, Frank Zane, Chris Dickerson, and Samir Bannout. 

“Sergio Oliva would be, Larry Scott wouldn’t, of course. Sergio Oliva would, Arnold — I don’t think he’d be competitive. Honestly, we all love Arnold he did the most for the sport. Physique-wise, if you don’t know the name and you see his physique, he wouldn’t be in the top. Next was Franco Columbo, after him, he wouldn’t be competitive. Frank Zane, unfortunately, I love Frank, he was my idol, but he was not big enough. He would be very good in Classic Physique of course, but not in the Open. 
Then, in 1980, Arnold again, ’81, again Columbo, ’82 was Chris Dickerson, he wouldn’t be available. Then, ’83, Samir Bannout, no, he wouldn’t be – he was great, we love his physique but that was for that era. Then comes Lee Haney, Lee Haney would be competitive. I do believe so. It’s amazing when you actually look at Lee Haney.” 

Additionally, Sarcev listed Cutler, Dexter Jackson, and Phil Heath as former Mr. Olympias who could stand their ground against today’s Open lineup. 

“I loved your 2001 Olympia, your 2001 Iron Man, I was absolutely blown away. I was sitting next to Chris Aceto, you created the illusion of being 280 pounds full shredded dry,” Sarcev tells Cutler.  
“Dexter Jackson, he would be very competitive,” Cutler said. “Phil Heath.” 
“Phil Heath would be super competitive, especially,” Sarcev agreed. “You [Cutler] and Phil Heath at your best?”
“We never were at our best, I mean obviously I won the battles at my best, I mean I was never at my best when I competed against him when he came into his own right,” Cutler shared.  “If he was here he’d say he wins, If I’m here I’d say I win.” 
“Phil Heath at his best could win the title of course,” Sarcev added. “Legs [on Brandon Curry] need to come up. If his legs come up, he was beating Hadi Choopan every time.” 

Before ending the discussion, Sarcev and Cutler agreed Brandon Curry and Mamdouh ‘Big Ramy’ Elssbiay still had the potential for redemption. 
“Big Ramy, he came after Brandon.” 
“I still think he can come back and be competitive,” says Jay Cutler.
“I think so too. Especially the pictures from Instagram on Saturday at the Arnold Classic, he looked – that was impressive. Friday I didn’t get exactly that impression. He was still not the best Ramy but questionably Saturday, maybe the best Ramy I’ve seen. Okay, minus arms, he had the better arms before and maybe back also.” 
The last time a popular bodybuilder compared eras was four-time Classic Physique Olympia Chris Bumstead. In a recent Full Send Podcast, Cbum was asked how a battle with Arnold Schwarzenegger would play out. If Schwarzenegger faced him at the 2022 Olympia contest, Cbum said he would have defeated the bodybuilding icon.

While they don’t believe every former Mr. Olympia could push into the first call-out, Cutler and Sarcev are confident a handful would likely assert themselves as Olympia title contenders in the modern era.

Jay Cutler on 2023 Mr. Olympia: “There’s So Many Big Names That Aren’t Qualified Yet”

Jay Culter‘s interest in the Men’s Open division hasn’t fallen off since retiring in 2013. In a recent Cutler Cast podcast, Cutler discussed the lack of bodybuilders qualified for 2023 Olympia and revealed new details about transforming his body for a ‘Fit for 50’ challenge. 

“The Pittsburgh Pro guest posing is going to be the tell-tale of what the Olympia will be,” Cutler said. 

The Men’s Open class underwent dramatic shifts over the past five months, starting with the 2022 Mr. Olympia contest, which saw a new champion emerge as Hadi Choopan defeated Mamdouh ‘Big Ramy’ Elssbiay en route to becoming the first Iranian-born champion. 

In March, the 2023 Arnold Classic finished with Samson Dauda’s hand raised. He faced top-three finishers Nick Walker and Andrew Jacked on his way to the victory. In light of the results, fans and bodybuilding mainstays like Bob Cicherillo have opened up on the results as some found them controversial. He believes Dauda presented a better combination of factors such as shape, aesthetics, proportions, and conditioning. 

While keeping an eye on the division he was ruled over, Cutler believes any of the top four finishers from Columbus, Ohio could have won. Nevertheless, his eyes are shifting to bodybuilding’s next major event, the Mr. Olympia contest, scheduled for November 2-5, in Orlando, Florida. Cutler also provided further details on his latest ‘Fit for 50’ body transformation challenge. 
Jay Cutler Eyes Breakthrough Talent in Men’s Open, Says 2023 Mr. Olympia Will ‘See a Lot of New Faces’ 
With less time to qualify for the Mr. Olympia contest compared to last year, Cutler believes there are a few big names that might not earn an invitation. 

“I want to talk about how fast the years go because we have the Olympia and now we’re getting into the busy season where there’s a lot of these qualifying shows and we’re going to see a lot of these new faces.” 

“There’s so many big names that aren’t qualified yet. But it’s going to just roll now. What I noticed while training for all those titles and I used to think I had the break after the Olympia and next thing you know, it feels like so long between the next year. Once you hit Spring and May hits, it was like – remember back then, it [Olympia] was like September or October. It seemed like it went by so fast.”

Having earned gold and his 2023 Olympia invite at the 2022 Bigman Weekend Pro, Brett Wilkin has the potential to make waves later this year. Cutler added that Justin Shier could serve as a breakout name during the season as well. 

“Every week we’re going to be talking about – once we hit May, the shows just roll after that and there’s so many faces that aren’t qualified [there will be a lot] that don’t make it, yeah,” said Cutler. “You still have the Krizos, the Iains, who is going to be the breakout guy this year, is Brett Wilkins going to make a statement this year. I think Martin Fitzwater is sitting out. Who are we going to see, are we going to see Justin Shier breakthrough?” 

Cutler ‘Not Satisfied’ With Current Physique: “The Fit for 50 Challenge Is Me Against Me” 

In preparation for his next project, Cutler stopped consuming caffeine and plans to go ‘full tilt’ into training and nutrition in May. 

“I quit drinking coffee. I’m actually scaling back a lot on the caffeine, even the pre-workouts, I’m mostly using the just stim-free pump pre-workout,” Cutler shared. “I’m going to go full tilt starting May into a – not a full deep deep preparation but as far as food, training, sleep patterns,” Jay Cutler shared. 

“I’m giving myself about 12 weeks to get in shape. I’m actually relatively lean; I just don’t have a lot of fullness, so the diet is going to be huge. I actually just did blood work, which I’m actually going to show my results here which I should have today or tomorrow.” 

“He [Mike O’Hearn] seems to be skipping out on the podcast. For you guys that follow Mike O’Hearn please give a shout-out to Mike and say hey when are you coming on the Cutler Cast. We’ve actually had him booked so many times now.” 

While Jay Cutler is unsure of his ‘end goal,’ he hopes to achieve his best shape since 2013 without returning to old protocols and intense training. 

“He looks absolutely amazing right, for me… I don’t know what the end goal is — I just know I’m not satisfied with how I look now. I don’t have a real prediction on what – people keep asking me what are you going to weight, what are you going to look like, I have no idea. This is all new to me. I’m not taking any more drugs or whatever else. I’m not going into the old protocols and I’m going to show that through my transition period. The Fit for 50 challenge is me against me. To be my best shape that I’ve been in since I retired in 2013.” 

Cutler plans to show his audience he can transform his physique without going overboard in the gym. 

 “I don’t try to max out; I don’t want to risk any injury, the funny part is, I don’t want to train so bad that I’m super sore. That’s the crazy thing for this 50 challenge: I’m going to train like that without going overboard and show that you still can,” said Cutler.

As the 2023 season unfolds, Cutler anticipates a surge in high-level talent hitting the stage. They will be aiming for the ultimate prize: the Mr. Olympia title, currently held by Hadi Choopan.
