Jay Cutler Broke Down Former Bodybuilding Diets That Included 140 Egg Whites And Four Pounds Of Meat Daily
Jay Cutler recently discussed his crazy diet plans during his bodybuilding career.
Jay Cutler is a four-time Olympia champion and is known as one of the best of all-time. This means that he has put together many training programs and diet plans to build that championship physique. In a recent interview, Cutler shared some wisdom on what to make in the kitchen and also shared some of his craziest diet plans during his career.
Cutler joined The Michael Sartain Podcast, where he was able to discuss all things bodybuilding. This is where Cutler revealed that it is all about the diet when preparing for a competition such as the Olympia.
For Cutler, this included a massive amount of eggs and even purchasing a cow to keep in his freezer.
“I bought a cow from the butcher. I was living in a place called Spencer, Massachusetts. I had a local butcher there so I’d actually buy all the meat and I would have two freezers. So, what I would do is I would buy the chicken and break it all down into two-pound bags and freeze it.”
“The food I was eating six to seven times a day. I was eating upwards of four pounds of meat a day. You know, it was just every two hours like clockwork.”
When following such an intense diet plan, it is not always easy to stay motivated. Jay Cutler received this motivation from watching some of the other greats during his time. He mentioned growing up watching the all-time greats such as Arnold Schwarzenegger, Lee Haney, and Dorian Yates.
Once he was in his prime, Cutler battle with Ronnie Coleman, who won eight consecutive Olympia titles from 1998-2005. Cutler ended his reign by taking the crown in 2006.
This is when Cutler began perfecting his diets. In retirement, he admitted to not enjoying food as much but he still features plenty of eggs in his diet.
“I don’t want to have steak. I’m not a big steak eater at 44 now. I tend to eat some sushi but I’m limited even on that just because I know a lot of sushi rice has a ton of sugar. I might eat some plain fish or whatever else but there’s nothing else that excites me.
I still, I drink the egg whites. That’s the difference between back then until now. They didn’t have pasteurized egg whites. Now you can buy the cartons and you can drink them. It’s actually a very good source of protein instead of frying them up.”
Jay Cutler used to spend a large amount of time preparing his eggs because of the sheer amount that he would eat.
“I’m not going to lie, there was a lot of diets I ate 140 egg whites a day. So I was cracking eggs non-stop. I remember sitting cracking eggs for an hour in the morning and I would put everything in Tupperware containers. I would just dump out. I was eating thirty egg whites a meal then.”
This is the commitment that it takes bodybuilders to get to their highest level. Jay Cutler is a perfect example of discipline, talent, and motivation needed to become champion of the Olympia. To this day, he continues to share methods that he used to use during his time on stage.

Jay Cutler On Mike O’Hearn And The Rock Not Discussing Natural Status: ‘For A Long Time, I Did The Same’
Jay Cutler has been open about bodybuilding in retirement and recently discussed Mike O’Hearn and The Rock being natural.
Since retiring from competition, Jay Cutler has been open and honest about the sport of bodybuilding. It does not matter whether it is about his own career, the status of the sport, or other topics gaining attention. In a recent interview, Cutler took the time to discuss the natural status of Mike O’Hearn and The Rock.
Both O’Hearn and Dwayne Johnson are figures that carry great attention when it comes to building an elite physique. O’Hearn is a former Mr. Universe champion who has been featured on the cover of many fitness magazines. The Rock made a great career for himself in the WWE before becoming a star on the big screen. Over the years, he has continued to work on his physique and is larger than life now.
On The Michael Sartain Podcast, Jay Cutler discussed the notion that both Mike O’Hearn and The Rock are natural. This is a topic that Cutler knows well and understands why it is not discussed.
“You know those things I don’t really comment as much on because I understand the positioning. Everyone has their own position and if they choose not to talk about it, I respect that because for a long time I did the same right. I didn’t come out and say I take this or that and I kind of went into interviews knowing that many weren’t going to ask and the ones that I thought might, I was protected where, ‘hey don’t blatantly ask me hey do you take this or that, don’t put me on the spot’ and that’s why I was limited on where I put my publicity.”
Jay Cutler is a four-time Olympia champion and one of the best bodybuilders of all-time. During his career, Cutler dealt with plenty of noise in solving steroids in the sport. This is something he did not discuss when he was competing but it has come out since he is done on stage.
Cutler also discussed how the Olympia was covered and the vibe around the reporters. Steroids and bodybuilding are linked and it was kind of understood heading into shows.
“All the local news stations before the Olympia covered the event but they didn’t touch on that and I think it was kind of known, hey don’t ask these kinds of questions but you have to prepare yourself.”
Jay Cutler did not accuse either The Rock or Mike O’Hearn of using steroids. Nor did he acknowledge the claim that they are all-natural. Cutler simply said that it is not his place to comment on the alleged use of steroids by others. This is a stance that many around the sport should take until the athlete themself wants to come out and discuss it.

Biography
Jay Cutler is an IFBB pro bodybuilder born and raised in Worcester, Massachusetts. He began working in his brother’s concrete pouring company at just 11 years old and credits the experience with developing his work ethic and desire to succeed at an early age.
In high school he excelled on the football team due to his natural size and strength, and decided to pursue bodybuilding after further developing his physique. In 1993, he graduated from Quinsigamond Community College with a degree in Criminal Justice and in 1996 he earned his pro card after winning the Tournament of Champions.
Cutler relocated to California in 2000 to further his bodybuilding career. During the early 2000s, he signed endorsement deals with supplement brand MuscleTech and debuted his own line of athletic gear, Cutler Athletics. Throughout his career, Jay competed in dozens of competition, winning nearly half of them or finishing in the top three.
He won the Mr. Olympia titles in 2006, 2007, 2009, and 2010. A biceps injury prevented him from competing in the 2011 tournament and he officially retired from the sport in 2013. He now continues to run Cutler Nutrition and Cutler Athletics to spread his knowledge onto others so they too can see amazing results like he has.

Jay Cutler Reflects On Who Is The Greatest Mr. Olympia Of All-Time
Jay Cutler decided to discuss the debate when it comes to the Olympia.
No matter the sport, there is a fascination on who the greatest of all-time is. Tm Brady or Jim Brown, Barry Bonds or Babe Ruth — it does not matter the era or position of the athlete. The same can be said about bodybuilding. The Olympia is the biggest event in bodybuilding. This is an honor that many have held and many more are vying for. When thinking about the history of the competition, it is normal to think on who the greatest champion is. Jay Cutler recently weighed in on this topic and gave his opinions.
Cutler is a four-time Olympia champion and one of the legendary bodybuilders in the history of the sport. On a recent episode of Cutler Cast on his YouTube page, Cutler discussed the topic and began with the greatest bodybuilder of all-time, Arnold Schwarzenegger. Despite his greatness, Cutler explains how some may be losing sight because of the times changing.
“There was no one better but obviously Coleman broke the record from Lee Haney. As we get further down the road, people lose track of the original generation.”
When Schwarzenegger was at his peak, he displayed a physique that no one had seen before. He did so without the phenomenon that is social media. Bodybuilders like Cutler himself, along with Ronnie Coleman and Phil Heath, were able to take advantage and gain a larger following because of social media sites.
Schwarzenegger was unbeatable from 1970-1975 winning six consecutive Olympia titles. He added another in 1980 to make it seven for his career. Schwarzenegger was one of the pioneers of bodybuilding and really brought it into the light. Cutler also discussed the level of competition and how he would like to hear it from someone who was there.
“At the time, he was pretty damn good, dude. To win seven, you know. I mean the competition I’ve heard at that time, Arnold didn’t have to defend his title against anyone. People don’t know that. I would love the historians to chime in on this and tell me how many Olympias Arnold won without a competitor against him.”
Coleman and Haney are tied for the most Olympia victories in history with eight a piece. Despite the great success, Cutler is a fan of Dorian Yates and what he was able to bring to the table.
Yates won six consecutive Olympia titles from 1992-1997. On stage, he displayed a well-rounded physique where it was difficult to find any flaws.
“Dorian Yates, I would say, he freaked me out more than Ronnie Coleman did,” Jay Cutler said.
“When I saw Dorian Yates and how big his back was and the calves and everything, I remember seeing him and thinking ‘gosh, how can someone get this big.’”
Cutler continues by explaining the freak that Coleman was but believes Yates was larger on stage and it began with his lats.
“Ronnie Coleman’s probably the biggest specimen. Let’s put it this way. Ronnie had the best back, the best double bicep,” Cutler said.
“Dorian Yates was so wide. His lats bro were, there was nothing like it. I couldn’t believe how developed they were. If you compared their lats, Dorian Yates’ lats blew away Ronnie’s, in my opinion. Ronnie Coleman had more detail, which is just like Phil Heath did.”
Jay Cutler did not give a definitive answer when talking about the greatest Olympia winner of all-time. It is a subjective topic that has many divisions because some athletes are stronger in certain areas on stage. It is clear that Cutler was a fan of Yates and acknowledged the behemoth that was Coleman. Also, Schwarzenegger always has to be brought up in the discussion.
As for a definitive answer, there is not one. This will remain a conversation for bodybuilding fans around the world to have for years to come.

Jay Cutler On Flex Lewis’ Olympia Status: ‘I Think He Definitely Deserves A Special Invitation’
Jay Cutler believes Flex Lewis has earned the right to compete at the Olympia.
Jay Cutler knows a thing or two about the Olympia competition. When he speaks on the subject, people listen and he recently weighed in on the controversy surrounding Flex Lewis‘ status for the 2022 show. Cutler believes that Flewis has earned the right to be given a special invitation come December.
There is still plenty of time for Lewis to gain qualification or receive an invitation. The conversation has sparked already and many do not understand why Lewis is not in just yet. Lewis has a lifetime invitation to compete at the Olympia but only in the 212 division, which he has won seven times in his career. He has since switched to Men’s Open.
Flex Lewis received a special invite to compete at the 2020 Olympia. He was forced to miss this show because of an injury that was not revealed. Lewis wanted to return in 2021 but personal issues kept him off the stage. Now, he will have to work his way back in 2022.
Jay Cutler, who is a four-time Olympia champion, weighed in on this topic during a recent episode of Cutler Cast. This is a podcast where Cutler discusses the recent topics in bodybuilding with guests. In this episode, he discussed Lewis’ current situation and how important it would be if he was able to compete this year.
“They gave him the invite two years ago. He couldn’t do it, he had health issues or whatever. I understand; he’s a seven-time 212, and we always talk about like, I hate saying Mr. Olympia because it’s confusing for people right? People say he’s a seven-time Mr. Olympia, but it’s totally different. He won his class, it’s a different class, it’s not the open Mr. Olympia. I think he definitely deserves a special invitation.”
Jay Cutler compared the current situation surrounding Flex Lewis to Kai Greene, who received many invitations over the years but has turned them all down. Cutler explains how this should be Lewis’ last invitation before he must earn the right by winning a show.
“I feel that if he does not compete this year, they should not give him another one. They gave one to Kai Greene for years and he just wouldn’t take it. If anyone deserves it, it’s him.”
The question remains, how would Flex Lewis fare after years away from the stage? Especially in Men’s Open. While it is still just February, Lewis has a chance to earn qualification to the Olympia and answer the question. Until then, he can still receive an invitation at some point.

Jay Cutler Believes He Could Eat Brian Shaw’s Diet, Discusses Strongman and Bodybuilding
Jay Cutler and Brian Shaw recently got together for an interview to discuss their crafts.
Jay Cutler and Brian Shaw are two wildly popular names that have been successful in different areas. Cutler is one of the best bodybuilders of all time while Shaw earned many victories in strongman. It goes without saying that if the two get together for an interview, it would be a must-watch event.
This happened recently as the two shared the microphone for a Q&A. The full video can be found on Shaw’s YouTube page. Shaw and Cutler discussed many topics from each of their crafts to diet plans.
As a strongman, Brian Shaw is used to taking in a large amount of calories to build strength. As a bodybuilder, Jay Cutler is used to eating frequently and said he would have no problem eating Shaw’s diet.
“One hundred percent. I heard what you eat. I thought it was a lot more than what I expected. I think we have a lot of similarities, like buying cows and eating how many eggs we eat, and whatnot. Listen, you definitely had a little more higher of a fat diet than I did, but I think our carbohydrates, your protein was a little more, but the body weight, if I weighed as much as you, being over 400, me, I was barely pushing over 300, I think that I would have the metabolism to eat that much,” Cutler said.
Cutler continues to say that he ate more than probably 90% of bodybuilders. While the amount of food was massive for each athlete, there were not many other similarities. Bodybuilding and strongman have clear distinctions so it is always interesting to think about if athletes could transition from one to the other.
This is something that Cutler also touched on. The four-time Olympia champion was asked who would do better during their primes — Cutler as a strongman or Shaw performing as a bodybuilder.
“Man, that’s a tough question. See, the thing that’s going to be hard, I think it goes both ways, I’m short right, and you’re really tall for bodybuilding. Lou Ferrigno was 6’5, and he had a hard time even competing at 300lb, to really compare. So I think it would be really tough for you to stand on stage. Of course, you carry a ton of size, but to lean down, I mean, you still need to be 350lb or more. With strongman, I mean I think I’d be limited with as short as I am,” Jay Cutler said.
Cutler admits that there are some serious differences and aspects that would have to change. Shaw would have to slim down while Cutler has a disadvantage being as short as he is. Shaw agreed with this take.
“That’d probably be the challenge. It’s interesting, the comparison, because it’s like you would have limiting factors and I would have limiting factors, if we were to switch,” Brian Shaw said.

Jay Cutler recently commented on the string of deaths plaguing modern bodybuilding. In recent months former Mr. Olympia Shawn Rhoden, George Peterson, and John Meadows all lost their lives. The passing of these veteran bodybuilders sent shockwaves through the industry.
The modern era of bodybuilding has become an extremely controversial time for the sport. While bodybuilding has been more accepted into the mainstream, the reality is that the state of the sport has never been more precarious. Recent bodybuilding deaths have raised questions as to how much is too much. Modern bodybuilding standouts George Peterson, John Meadows, and now 2018 Mr. Olympia Shawn Rhoden have all recently lost their lives. It has sparked a very important conversation in the bodybuilding world.

Dark Times
Four-time Olympia champion Jay Cutler had a lot to say on the subject. Competing at the highest levels of the game, Cutler has the kind of valuable experience that any bodybuilding enthusiast can find insightful. Cutler recently touched on the string of bodybuilding deaths that have hit the industry hard.
In his podcast, Jay Cutler expressed that many people are having concerns about the state of modern bodybuilding.
“I think people are just running scared at this point, think ‘Oh my gosh, bodybuilding is so dangerous,’” said Cutler. “I think anything in life is, nutrition and whatever else, and we obviously push ourselves. I think our biggest fear now is, when you’re 290, 5-foot-9 or 10, you’re considered obese. So it puts a lot of strain on the heart. Although I felt pretty good at 290, I knew I couldn’t maintain that for a long time, hence I walked away at 40 years old.”
Could Age Be The Cause?
It appears that Jay Cutler is inferring that age could be a factor in the recent deaths of veteran bodybuilders. Cutler continued bringing up examples of past bodybuilding champions and when they walked away from the sport.
“I look back, when I first started bodybuilding, and I watched Lee Haney retire at 31, Dorian Yates retired at like 37, Lee Labrada stepped away, Shawn Ray stepped away early in their careers, their early thirties or whatever.
“I just feel that this has transitioned to an older person’s game, which I don’t know if that’s the best thing for your health, to really be pushing yourself in your forties, to get in shape, up and down like a yo-yo, being depleted and being dehydrated to that extent…
“The truth is, when you start pushing limitations of your physique, it doesn’t matter what the age is, the amount of foods we eat is astronomical.”

Age could very well be a factor in the deaths of Shawn Rhoden, John Meadows, and George Peterson. Some may say that the true culprit is the amount of gear that modern bodybuilders take. Either way there’s clearly an issue, one that can’t be ignored.

Jay Cutler Has High Praise For Nick Walker After Arnold Classic Victory
Jay Cutler believes Nick Walker’s career will continue to take off from here.
There are certain figures in bodybuilding that draw plenty of attention when they speak. Jay Cutler is certainly one of those names. Recently, the legendary bodybuilder spoke out and praised the ability of Nick Walker following his victory at the 2021 Arnold Classic.
Walker burst onto the scene as a prospect with a high ceiling. This came to fruition when he won the 2021 New York Pro and the Arnold Classic last weekend. Walker will head into the Olympia with plenty of confidence and momentum. Cutler believes that Walker is destined for a strong performance on the biggest stage in bodybuilding.
“He’s taking the steps dude. He’s won New York, the same year Arnold Classic, and he’s going to go to the Olympia and he’s probably going to be in the top five. I mean, not many guys have been able to do that,” Cutler said.
“I think Nick could be second. I think he could land second, I think he could land third. Can he win it? I can’t say no. Depends on how the other guys show up, but until we see him standing next to Bonac, and Curry, and Hadi Choopan, and Ramy, you don’t know.”
Jay Cutler built a strong career for himself by winning on the biggest stages. He finished with three-straight Arnold Classic victories from 2002-2004. He is a four-time Olympia champion with six second-place finishes at the event.
Nick Walker is in the midst of what could be one of the best first years in the history of the sport. Walker has all of the tools to perform on the Olympia stage. He is a mass monster with great conditioning. Walker displays all necessary assets to compete against the other tp competitors in the world.
Cutler sees the potential in Walker and acknowledges what he has already accomplished. Parlay this with his immense confidence and there could be a special performance coming up.
“What I like about his approach, he doesn’t say why he’s going to beat so and so, because they’re missing this or that. He just says ‘Hey, I’m that good,’ which I have no problem. He’s got some pretty knockout shots.”
“I don’t know is Walker can be a lot better, but he’s already calling out Ramy… He said winter doesn’t happen in Orlando, so he’s already ready,” Cutler said.
The 2021 Olympia will take place from Oct. 7-10 in Orlando. All of the top competitors will be there and this includes Walker. There are high expectations for him heading into the event and many believe he will live up to the hype.
