Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Son Joseph Baena Flexes His Bulging Biceps and Sculpted Legs at Iconic Gold’s Gym
Legendary bodybuilder Arnold Schwarzenegger’s son Joseph Baena is carving his own path in fitness and entertainment. He followed in his father’s footsteps and explored his passion for working out although he doesn’t compete professionally. In a recent post made on Instagram, Baena looked massive while hitting a classic bodybuilding pose, the front double bicep.
Arnold Schwarzenegger pioneered the IFBB Men’s Open division during his days of competing on stage in the 1970s. He displayed a stellar blend of muscle mass, size, and symmetry and racked up seven Mr. Olympia titles against the likes of fellow legends Franco Columbu, Lou Ferrigno, and Sergio Oliva.
Besides his athletic talents, Schwarzenegger became renowned for his acting abilities. He showcased his charismatic personality and witty nature in the 1977 docudrama Pumping Iron and endeared himself to the fans. Following his retirement, Schwarzenegger found success as a certified action star with several blockbuster projects under his belt.
Joseph Baena made headlines for his insane resemblance to Schwarzenegger after he recreated some of his father’s classic bodybuilding poses in Aug. 2022. The Internet was left stunned by the uncanny resemblance between the two as Baena performed the famous back pose. Then, he opened up about the struggles that come along with being Schwarzenegger’s son. While the comparisons were tough in the beginning, Baena learned to focus on crafting his own path.
Baena teamed up with fitness sensation Mike O’Hearn for a brutal arms workout last August. The bodybuilding veteran exchanged some techniques with Baena, including their favorite supersets to build muscle in the arms. The duo reconnected for an ‘old-school’ training session targeting back for enhanced longevity days later.
In Sep. 2022, Baena provided the grueling shoulder workout he utilized to get ready for his debut in the reality dance competition show Dancing With The Stars. He enlisted the help of bodybuilding veteran Robby Robinson and O’Hearn to refine his posing skills weeks later.
Joseph Baena channeled the spirit of his father’s iconic role by recreating the iconic look from Conan the Barbarian (1982) last October. He donned a leather kilt and flexed his muscles through a series of poses. After being on the show for six weeks, Baena revealed he shed 10 pounds in a lean physique update.

Baena offered an intense workout challenge to test endurance in a shredded physique update last month. Based on the latest update, Baena is staying consistent with his workouts and keeping up his fitness game.

While Joseph doesn’t compete professionally, fans favor his chances should he take to a bodybuilding stage. Baena shares workout/posing collaborations regularly, where he teams up with bodybuilders who have long made their mark on the sport, like Robby Robinson and Mr. Universe winner Mike O’Hearn.
Having commanded roles in the Terminator 2 Remake with Joseph Baena, Bad to the Bone (2016), Chariot (2022), and Bully High (2022), Baena continues to test the waters in Hollywood. Joseph Baena Shows Off Built Physique with ‘Full-Body Endurance Circuit’ Workout
In the caption of the Instagram post, Baena shared his preference for switching up exercises over time.
“I always love switching up my workouts every once in a while. Could be trying a new exercise, doing drop sets or even trying a new sport. Today I tried this Full Body Endurance Circuit. It consisted of 6 super sets and totally wore the group out, but also pumped us up! Completed it in about 1hr 20min, but think I can get a faster time on the next try. How fast do you think you can complete this workout?”
Battle ropes 6 x 30 seconds
200 Elevated crunches
Row (1 kilometer)
50 Pull-ups
Ski (1 kilometer)
150 Press-ups
Run (1.2 miles)
200 Split squats
Assault bike (1.2 miles)
50 Dips
8 Sled pushes
50 Squat jumps (with weighted vest)
Given Baena’s training session consisted of 12 different exercises, it is a daunting challenge since there are no dedicated rest periods. The workout used by Baena was created by trainer Lawrence Cuse.
Aside from his latest training session, Baena has kept busy and recently sat down to discuss his budding acting career in detail. According to Baena, he intends to achieve a ‘superhero’ body in 2023, which he believes will help him attract higher-profile movie projects. He added that at this stage in his life, he’s pursuing his acting career ‘as hard as possible.’

In addition to training routines, Baena has been open and honest about his nutrition. Overall, Baena prefers three meals a day and lives by eating ‘simple, clean, and fresh’ ingredients, which he’s credited for helping him maintain his body.
Considering Baena’s physique and posing strengths, fans would love nothing more than to see him take on a bodybuilding competition. While he’s left that door open for the future, Baena stressed that his attention is solely focused on building his physique for acting gigs not for the stage.

Mike O’Hearn Wants Joseph Baena To Be Lifting In His 70’s
There comes a point where Mike O’Hearn believes that it is about building healthy muscles and keeping your body in shape. That can start early and is what he is preaching to Joseph Baena here.
“You’re in your 20s, I want you lifting at 75. At some point, you’re going to go, ‘the muscle is cool and everything, but I want healthy arms and shoulders.”
O’Hearn shared the video to his YouTube account. During the session, the two shared different insights on the best way to perform the exercise. It began with wide-grip pull-ups and bent over barbell rows.
“A little bit more, just that squeeze at the top. Instead of it being flat, I’d like to pop it all the way back. Almost like you’re posting from the back,” Mike O’Hearn said.
This is one of the exercises that O’Hearn believes is connected to longevity. Young lifters are training to build bigger muscles that are tailored to bodybuilding but he believes that healthy muscles and joints are more important long term.
As the two continue to perform the bent over rows while standing on a bench, they discuss different techniques. O’Hearn speaks on how keeping the back stiff will make the exercise safer.
“You create stiffness prior to the exercise, prior to lifting it. He created stiffness in the back and then he pulled here. It’s creating the stiffness that keeps you safe. It’s not the actual position. It’s the stiffness within the position,” Mike O’Hearn said.
“It’s really the stretch that’s the game changer. I feel like it’s the whole back stretching not just the upper lats.” Joseph Baena said.
Mike O’Hearn has created many workouts using his old-school mentality and it has worked like a charm. He continues to share wisdom with the next generation.

Baena began by explaining how he likes to get a full pump to begin arm day.
“So what I usually like to do with the triceps is superset with a little biceps to get the full pump. So you get the stretch, the squeeze on both ends,” Baena said.
The duo began performing skull crushers. Mike O’Hearn completed them first before looking at Baena’s form.
Joseph Baena attacked the workout with curled wrists as the dumbbells are being brought up. This is used instead of using a hammer grip. O’Hearn explained the intensity of this movement and shared his thoughts.
“I don’t know if you guys see this but to me it looks like he is on stage and he is posing through the exercise. Youngsters go – “Oh, he flexed through the whole exercise? You don’t just lift it?
You’re posing and moving the waist. If he knows it at that age before I knew it at that age, how much better is he gonna be than I ever was.”
Mike O’Hearn closed out the workout with some words of wisdom on how to approach each rep. It is important to focus on the technique of each rep in order to get the bet results.
“You don’t do 12 reps. You do one rep until you get to 12,” O’Hearn said.

Joseph Baena Shares His Old School Workout Inspired By Arnold Schwarzenegger
Joseph Baena takes more inspiration from his father, Arnold Schwarzenegger, as he shows off his old school bodybuilding workout.
Over the years, Joseph Baena has been turning heads in the bodybuilding world. Perhaps initially known best simply for being Arnold Schwarzenegger‘s son, Baena has been building even more attention as he’s slowly sculpted an impressive bodybuilding physique of his own. Certainly the genetics are working in his favor – as his physique has begged the question: will we ever see Joseph Baena compete in bodybuilding.
We may not have an answer to that at the moment. But we do know that Joseph Baena has continued to build his identity as a bodybuilder and lover of fitness. Physique updates often grab attention and headlines. And while Baena certainly gained some genetic graces from his father, he is certainly putting in the hard work on his own merits.
So it’s even more exciting that Joseph Baena recently shared his workout routine with Men’s Health in an extensive cover story. Taking a page from his father, the workout is clearly inspired by the Golden Era of bodybuilding. Let’s break down Baena’s journey towards a muscular physique and his workout below.
How Joseph Baena Discovered Bodybuilding
Joseph Baena first found an interest in weightlifting and bodybuilding through competitive swimming. Shortly after, Arnold Schwarzenegger gifted Baena a copy of The Encyclopedia of Modern Bodybuilding – which, of course, was written by Schwarzenegger himself. The two then started training in the gym together. What better training partner can you ask for than 7x Olympia champion Arnold Schwarzenegger?
And while his father is a major inspiration and motivational factor in Joseph Baena’s growing physique – he also clearly is looking to put his own modern spin as he continues to train. In speaking with Men’s Health, he had this to say about his journey into bodybuilding:
“My father really inspires me… he kind of created the ideal physique for most people… do I want to have the same physique? I don’t know if I can.”
It’s clear the Joseph Baena has a bit of humorous self-deprecation in talking about his own physique. A clear difference between his father’s cocky attitude as seen in Pumping Iron. Regardless, the true message is in the physique and the hard work put into training.
Regardless of being Arnold Schwarzenegger’s son – this workout and his latest physique updates prove that he is a man who is willing to put in the hard work for impressive muscle. And more than that – he’s bodybuilder in the truest sense of the word. He has a passion for weightlifting.

He certainly has the bloodline with the best bodybuilder of all-time as his father. Until then, Baena continues to make a name for himself on the big screen.
After an insane career in bodybuilding, Arnold Schwarzenegger became known for his work as an actor, especially in The Terminator series. Baena continues to follow in his father’s footsteps with some of his recent projects.
In November, Baena announced a new project titled Lava. He showed off his sculpted build in another social media post discussing to project, which will be funded by cryptocurrency. Despite working on movies and aspiring to be a bodybuilder, Baena has created his own path.
Baena is not the only son of Schwarzenegger that has shown a passion for fitness. Patrick Schwarzenegger has taken on the lifestyle and has transformed his physique in recent months. At the beginning of January, Patrick shared a physique update of his own after taking on a fitness challenge.
At 24 years old, Joseph Baena has already made a name for himself. His work will only continue to grow, whether it be on the big screen or in bodybuilding.
