News of the official pre-order and release date come after the release of the teaser trailer earlier in July. The film will be the only authorized deep dive into the entire life of Kai Green – including never before seen footage throughout his career. Kai Greene is one of the biggest modern day legends in the sport of bodybuilding. Known also as The Predator and The People’s Champ – he was the only competitor who could challenge Phil Heath’s Olympia status. The two’s rivalry is stuff of legends – and the tension seen when they battled on stage has yet to be replicated since. Now years after his retirement, fans can finally get an all-access feature film revealing the entire life story of Kai Greene.
Beyond his legendary status, Kai Greene is also known for his poetic artistry in both his actions and most certainly his words. His philosophical way of speaking has often shrouded Kai’s past in mystery. When discussing his childhood – including his time in juvenile detention and his later stint as a male exotic dancer – Kai’s cryptic and vague phrasing has prevented a true clear picture to form.

Now Generation Iron Network has released the first official teaser trailer for the Kai Greene film. In addition to being produced by The Vladar Company and Generation Iron Network – producer Matt Maxson is also attached to the Kai Greene documentary – who is best known for producing The Last Dance.
Emmy nominated Producer Matt Maxson’s The Last Dance starring Michael Jordan took the world by storm in 2020 – becoming one of the most talked about TV events of the year on ESPN and Netflix. He now took his producing talents to the world of bodybuilding and fitness with his involvement in the Kai documentary feature.
Matt Maxon’s other producing credits include Andre The Giant and The Circus: Inside The Greatest Political Show On Earth. Before producing, he spent five years working in production at HBO Sports where he worked on the network’s documentary series 24/7 which garnered 18 Emmy Awards.
The Last Dance received critical acclaim, with praise for its directing and editing. It won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Series at the 72nd Primetime Emmy Awards. On review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, the series holds an approval rating of 96% based on 53 reviews. The documentary series provided the most in-depth look at Michael Jordan’s career with the Chicago Bulls where he played alongside other legendary players such as Scottie Pippen, Dennis Rodman, and coach Phil Jackson.
Release Date
The teaser trailer for Kai notes that the film release will be ‘coming soon’ and has not detailed a specific release date as of yet. Generation Iron Network has confirmed that the film will be available on digital by late summer 2022. With it already being July, we can expect the film to be released by August or September of this year.
Kai is directed by Vlad Yudin (Generation Iron, Ronnie Coleman: The King) and produced by both Yudin and Edwin Mejia Jr. (Generation Iron, Ronnie Coleman: The King). It will be executive produced by Matt Maxon, David Gendron, Russ Riggins, and Viviana Zarragoitia.

Now the studio has released the official teaser poster of Kai and have announced that the film will be coming soon later this summer. Notoriously known for his cryptic words and mysterious past – Kai will explore Kai Greene’s life story from childhood through his bodybuilding career and into his post-retirement life. It will be the most comprehensive and direct look into the life and mind of one of bodybuilding’s biggest modern legends.
Kai Greene is a former professional bodybuilder and one of the biggest modern day legends in the sport. Known by his nicknames ‘The Predator’ and ‘The People’s Champ’, he is decorated with multiple major bodybuilding victories including five Arnold Classic victories. Beyond his accolades, Kai Greene was also known for adding a new form of poetry into the sport of bodybuilding. He would often wear mysterious masks and unique costumes to his posing routines. Phil Heath Joins Cast Of Kai Greene Documentary
Phil Heath, longtime rival of Kai Greene, has joined the cast of the KAI feature film documentary.
7x Mr. Olympia champion Phil Heath has officially joined the cast of the Kai Greene feature film documentary. The documentary, tentatively titled KAI, was first announced in January 2021 with producer of The Last Dance Matt Maxson also involved with the project. The film is currently in production under the direction of Vlad Yudin.
Phil Heath and Kai Greene have a deep history ranging back over a decade. Their rivalry is considered to be one of the most exciting in the history of the sport. Greene was the only bodybuilder to truly threaten Heath throughout his seven-year reign as Olympia champion. Ultimately, Greene retired before having a chance to defeat Heath. Shaun Rhoden ultimately was the competitor to dethrone Heath at the Mr. Olympia in 2018.
But beyond their athletic rivalry, Phil Heath and Kai Greene’s personalities have clashed creating for some truly entertaining spectacle. They were notable for bringing much heat and trading barbs at the Olympia press conferences each year. In what might be their most viral moment – the two athletes nearly came to physical blows on the stage of Olympia stage in 2014.
The film will mark the first time the two titan bodybuilders appeared together in a feature film since the release of the original Generation Iron documentary in 2013.
The Kai Greene documentary will tell the full life story of Greene, ranging from his troubled childhood through his bodybuilding career and into his post-retirement lifestyle. The film promises to be the most uncompromising look into the mysterious past of Kai Greene – and provide unfiltered insight into his perception of the legacy of his bodybuilding career.
Kai Greene grew up in a troubled home in Brooklyn, only to eventually become a ward of the state and an orphan. Struggling to survive, he eventually became incarcerated during his youth. Upon being released from prison, Greene discovered bodybuilding, became a male exotic dancer, and eventually earned his way up into the IFBB pro league.

Though he may have left his exotic dancing days behind him – he brought a unique brand to the bodybuilding stage. Fusing his skills as a dancer with his intense artistry – Kai Greene was known not only for his impressive physique but also his stellar posing routines. Greene would often wear custom costumes during his guest posings.
Ultimately, Kai Greene unofficially retired in 2016 after winning a string of Arnold Classic competitions. He never achieved the status of Mr. Olympia throughout his career. Many fan to this day believe he may make a surprise comeback. This is due to his physique still being in massive shape nearly six years after his last competition.
After retirement, Kai Greene and Phil Heath maintained a sort of frenemy relationship. The two continue to communicate publicly across social media platforms. The two had also been spotted training together. They both have also teased a potential reunion battle between the two of them on stage – though this has yet to ever materialize.

Biography
Early Life
Kai Greene was born in New York City and had a tough upbringing. Inconsistency in family life and constant problems at school were only leading Kai down an unfortunate road. However, in his early teen years, he found weightlifting and realized this was a great way to deal with his stress and other problems bringing him down. As he grew bigger and more defined, someone introduced him to bodybuilding, and he found a new passion and outlet to change his life.
He began competing at many teen shows and continued to build his physique. The more success he felt, the more he sought to be a real force in the bodybuilding world. Done with competing at the lower tier competitions, he set his sights on the NPC, knowing that bigger, more defined athletes would be his competitors.
Pro Bodybuilding Career
Before his 19th birthday, Kai Greene turned pro with a natural organization and held the distinction of being the youngest natural professional bodybuilder in the world. Kai’s pro status allowed him to take his competitive aspiration to a larger stage.
Kai Greene became an enthusiastic bodybuilder, competing in the National Physique Committee (NPC) and aiming to move into the IFBB. He perceives his success in the NPC as mixed. Although he won the 1999 NPC Team Universe, he was disappointed and took a five-year break from competitions, before re-emerging in the 2004 NPC Team Universe contest, which he won again. This victory qualified him for a career as an IFBB professional bodybuilder.
In 2011, Greene began working with preparation coach George Farah and placed 1st in the 2011 New York Pro Championship. His 3rd place win at Mr. Olympia in 2011 qualified him for the 2012 contest, so he did not compete at the 2012 New York Pro in order to focus on Mr. Olympia. As documented in his breakout role in Generation Iron, he placed 2nd in the 2012 Mr. Olympia, the 2013 Mr. Olympia, and the 2014 Mr. Olympia.
Taking A Break From The Olympia
Kai Greene did not compete in the 2015 Mr. Olympia in order to focus on his career outside of bodybuilding. He issued the statement, “There is a lot more going on behind the scenes that I cannot discuss.” Olympia officials denied any claims that he was banned from competing but did confirm that he did not register and had been reminded several times since May. Greene did request an extension on the registration period in May; it was extended until July, but he did not meet this deadline either. He shortly confirmed he signed a management deal with Generation Iron who helped him secure roles on “Stranger Things” Season 2 and many auditions for major TV and film roles.
Kai Greene’s Short Lived Return
On March 5, 2016, Kai Greene won the 2016 Arnold Classic, which he had also won in 2009 and 2010.
On June 23rd, 2017, Greene was given a special offer personally by NPC chairman and CEO of Mr. Olympia to join that current year’s Mr. Olympia competition without going through qualification, as required for all of the other competitors in the 2017 Mr. Olympia.
Over the years, Kai Greene has gained vast notoriety beyond what he could have imagined in his youth. Within the bodybuilding arena, Kai has been held as one of the most inspirational athletes of his time. Before every workout, Kai Greene stretches and does ab workouts for 15-20 minutes. He says that the core is an integral part of every exercise, so it is important to awaken the abs before you start workouts. Plus, by working your abs before you start, there’s no excuse to not do them after a hard workout.

Bulking Diet Routine
Kai’s diet is pretty strict. He must have 1.5gms of protein for each pound of his body mass and 0.5gms of fats that are healthy per gram out his bodyweight. He also takes a pre-workout protein shake 30 minutes before every workout.
Meal 1: 2 slices Ezekiel bread, 4 egg whites, 2 scallions, ¼ shredded cheddar cheese
Meal 2: 2 scoops of whey protein powder, 1-ounce almonds, 1 cup Almond/ Coconut Milk, 1 cup blueberries, 1 cup of water
Meal 3: 6 ounces of grilled Flank steak, ½ cucumber, 1 teaspoon olive oil, 1 ripe tomato
Meal 4: 6 ounces of boneless Chicken Breast, 2 walnuts, and craisins, 1/3 cup of quinoa
Meal 5: 5-ounces of tuna steak with7 ounces of cod, 2 medium-sized yams, 1 tablespoon butter, 2 tablespoon Parmesan Cheese, 4 stalks of Asparagus
Pre-Contest Diet Routine
While the bulking diet is great, during Kai’s pre-contest routine his diet needs to be totally on par. One of the major differences is that he switches to lean proteins.
Meal 1: 16 oz steak, 12 egg whites, quart of white rice with a cutting supplement for fat loss.

A secret of mine that you don’t see many people do anymore is the Jefferson Squat. It works your lower body in a unique way, to perform this movement take a wide stance and hold the bar between your legs with one hand in front of your body and one hand behind it.
Keep your glutes tensed while you squat down in the bucket (below parallel).
Use smaller plates on the bar, no more than 25s, so you can get down deep enough.
The key is to force your knees out—when you do that, it activates your glutes so you keep them under continuous contraction throughout the set.
The better I became at doing Jeffersons, the more proficient I got at squatting. I learned how to activate my qlutes, hams, and quads better. Doing Jeffersons then the adduction machine one after the other has been crucial to my glute and hip-flexor development.

Kai Greene Looking Downsized In Recent Videos
Kai Greene might be training with a different goal.
Kai Greene has not officially announced his retirement from the sport of bodybuilding. He often posts physique updates and workout videos but there might be a different goal in mind. Greene has maintained a shredded physique but is seems unlikely that he will return to the stage at 46 years old. In recent videos, the legendary bodybuilder has looked a bit downsized.
Greene posted a recent video to Instagram where he is promoting machines and equipment made by Powertec. In the video, Greene is seen using the machines and is looking a bit slimmed down.
At this point, Kai Greene might be interested in building a healthier version of himself. He was one of the elite bodybuilders during his time and still has a huge following that wants him to return to the stage. Greene has not competed in six years despite holding off on retiring. There was speculation that he was going to return during the 2021 Olympia but that did not happen.
During his career, the Olympia title has eluded Greene but he has three second-place finishes. Greene has three victories at the Arnold Classic and finished third in 2016. It is clear that Greene can still put in the work in the gym and he shows it on a daily basis.
Kai Greene continues to inspire others and share some workouts to try. He is using his massive following to share knowledge and insight on weight lifting.
