Larry Wheels Shares Deadlift Workout Featuring Different Variations
Larry Wheels continues to train for his appearance during the Middle East’s Strongest Man Competition.
Larry Wheels has gained major popularity as a powerlifter because of his incredible feats of strength shared on social media. This time around, Wheels is preparing to take the stage and did so with a huge deadlift workout sharing some of his favorite variation.
Wheels will compete in the Middle East’s Strongest Man competition and this is one of the reasons he went back to the beginning when looking at deadlifts. He took to YouTube to share his most recent workout.
“For the longest time since I have been a hardcore powerlifter, I have not done any deficit pulls or any block pulls, any speed pulls. These are the building blocks of a huge deadlift,” Wheels said.
Larry Wheels took it back to the beginning when it comes to deadlifts. Below, you can find his workout plan that he used to work on areas of the deadlift.
Larry Wheels Deadlift Workout
Block Pulls
Wheels began this workout with block pulls using explosive motions to get the weight in the air. While performing these reps, Wheels kept his arms long in order to reduce the range of motion. He began with warmup sets before moving toward nine working sets.
During warmups, Wheels ranged from 135 pounds to 365 pounds. During his nine working sets, Wheels kept 405 pounds on the bar and banged out eight reps per set.
“What do you think will be more effective for building strength? Me hitting 700 pounds for three to five reps for one set or hitting 72 reps with 405 pounds over nine sets. So this is why working with lighter weight, high volume is so effective. You can not get that kind of volume with 80-90 percent of your max for one set,” Wheels said.

Warm-Ups
5 reps of 135lbs
4 reps of 185lbs
2 reps of 225lbs
1 rep of 275lbs
1 rep of 315 lbs

Working
9 sets of 8 reps of 405 pounds
Deficit Pulls
Larry Wheels then moved onto deficit pulls, which is a different variation because Wheels is on a two-inch thick pad, not the weight itself. He began by completing five sets of eight reps with 405 pounds. After the block pulls, Wheels did not take as much of a warmup and was able to jump right into working sets.
“When you’re starting from roughly an inch or an inch and a half lower than you would in a block pull. So when you pull from the floor, you’ll find it easier. You’ll find more confidence, more explosively from deficit pulls,” Wheels said.
High-Volume Training
Larry Wheels continued his workout with three different movements that showed high-volume strategy. He moved onto leg presses following his two different deadlift variations. Next, Wheels took on some grip-strength training. He began with a 2.5 certified captain of crush grippers. He moved onto 3 calibre gripper before taking a shot at 3.5, which he was unable to crush.
The final workout of the day was box jumps. This was completed in a few sets before taking on an arm wrestling match to end the video.
Larry Wheels continues to be one of the most-exciting powerlifters and has an excellent presence on social media. When he releases a workout, it is something that will have to be taken seriously and is a great way for lifters to find new ways to train.

Big Ramy Takes On Larry Wheels In Arm Wrestling Match
Two-time Olympia champion Big Ramy recently took down Larry Wheels in an arm wrestling match.
There are few things more entertaining than two behemoths putting on a show to determine who is stronger. That is what happened when Larry Wheels took on Big Ramy in an arm wrestling match recently. In the end, it was the two-time Mr. Olympia who came out on top.
Wheels shared the video to his Instagram page. The powerlifter has gained three million followers on the social media platform and they were recently given a treat with this competition.
Big Ramy and Larry Wheels have built two of the best physiques in the world and have done it in different ways. Big Ramy has spent his career building a massive physique to win titles on the bodybuilding stage. That is exactly what he has done after winning the 2020 and 2021 Olympia titles in Orlando. He will look to make it three in a row in December as the competition moves back to Las Vegas.
Wheels has dabbled in many areas over the course of his career. He has recently returned to powerlifting and setting some new personal records in the gym. His strength is only increasing despite his other paths.
In recent months, Wheels has tried his hand at arm wrestling. He began with two losses to Aleksandr “Schoolboy” Toproll before squaring off with Brandon Allen. Wheels took the early rounds of the match before Allen was able to take over. In this recent video against Big Ramy, it seems as though Wheels was overmatched from the start.
Big Ramy is seen looking comfortable from the early moments of the video and even cracks a smile. It did not look like he was applying full pressure early on. Wheels is struggling to take down Big Ramy and is later defeated when Big Ramy decides to turn it on.
It was interesting to see Big Ramy participate in something like this given the risk of injury. As a bodybuilder, he is on special diets and workout plans all year round in order to be ready for competition. Larry Wheels has been training as a powerlifter and keeps his strength at a high. At the time of the arm wrestling match, Big Ramy was around 340 pounds, which is his offseason weight. Wheels usually weighs around 245-300 pounds given his current goals.
Larry Wheels will continue to put on a show when he hits the gym while focusing on arm wrestling. If he continues to take on or train with athletes like Big Ramy, it will be must-see action.

Wheels’ Instagram feed is nothing short of a work of art. Like a fine painter, he tries to outdo his masterpiece every time he has a go on the canvas.
Larry has a tendency to push himself too hard. Although we have seen Larry Wheels lift insane weights without a care in the world, it has not gone so well for his training partners.
In the recent past, Ryan Crowley and Mike Edwards have met with accidents on the bench press while training with Larry Wheels. On top of that, Wheels himself has suffered an injury while benching.
Statistically speaking, a majority of Larry Wheels’ injuries occur on the bench press.

The Larry Wheels Story
Wheels grew up in extreme poverty in Bronx, New York. He started training for personal safety. He wanted to look bigger and stronger so nobody could bully him.
Since Larry could not afford a gym membership initially, he began doing push-ups, pull-ups, and sit-ups every day at home. With the help of his mother, he later built himself a basic weight set consisting of two 40 lbs concrete blocks and a broomstick.
Fast forward several years and training at a gym, Larry Wheels is now a professional powerlifter. He also made two powerlifting world records in 2017, making a name for himself in the sport in the process.

Larry Wheels Diet
Growing up, Wheels did not have the resources to find himself a professional coach who could help him with his training and nutrition program. But that did not push Larry to give up his passion for lifting weights.
He learned everything about the sport through trial and error. Going by his physique and strength, it would be safe to say that Wheels has his shit figured out.
Larry Wheels Diet Plan
Wheels eats 8-9 meals every day. When trying to bulk up, he consumes around 5,500 calories a day. Beef, rice, and avocados are the staples in Larry’s high-calorie diet.
However, when cutting down for a show, Larry Wheels limits his calories intake to 4,400 calories a day. The staples for his shredding diet include salmon, chicken, sweet potatoes, and rice.

Since Wheels came from humble beginnings, he could not afford a gym membership in his early years. After landing a job, the powerlifter paid for his first gym membership and started seeing dramatic progress in his physique.
Although he was getting bigger and stronger, Larry lost interest in bodybuilding after six months of joining a gym and decided to train for strength instead.
Training Principles
Larry Wheels’ workout routine revolves around the following principles:
1. Train Like a Powerlifter
Wheels is more jacked than most powerlifters and stronger than most bodybuilders. He is one of the few successful powerbodybuilders. To achieve his incredible strength and muscle size, Larry alternates between powerlifting and bodybuilding programs.

2. Rest is Key
In his initial lifting days, Larry barely took any rest. He believed that the more he trained, the bigger and stronger he is going to get. Although it worked for him initially, Larry soon hit a plateau.
According to him, he was stuck at 190 lbs, and the needle on the weighing machine would not budge no matter how hard he trained or how much he ate.
He started seeing progress in his strength and size only after he reduced his workout frequency.
Larry Wheels Powerlifting Program
Wheels follows a three-day powerlifting training program. Traning heavy three days a week and taking the remaining four days off allows him enough time to recover from his intense training sessions.
Here is what his training routine looks like:
Monday: Squat
Wednesday: Bench Press
Friday: Deadlift
After lifting heavy on the big 3 in his powerlifting program, Larry performs a few assistance exercises for his upper and lower body.
As per Larry, he squats and bench presses once per week and deadlifts on alternate weeks. The low-frequency training program gives his body the optimal time it requires to recover from his workouts. It also puts less wear and tear on his body and helps him avoid injuries.

Monday: Squat
Reverse band back squat: 3 sets of 1 rep
Plank: 3 sets to failure
Glute ham raise: 3 sets to failure
Larry Wheels performs this workout a few weeks before his powerlifting meets. The Instagram icon goes super-heavy on squats.
Note: we would not encourage beginners or intermediate lifters to emulate what he does in the gym.
Larry likes the reverse bands as they let him get used to the feeling of an ultra-heavy weight on his back, and they take some of the pressure off his back and legs in the bottom position.

Wednesday: Bench Press
Bench press: 3 sets of 1 rep
Super yolk push press: 3 sets of 5 reps
V-handle Seated cable row: 3 sets of 10-15 reps
Standing cable external rotation: 3 sets of 10-15 reps
Larry begins his second workout with a 1RM (one rep max) on the bench press.
Remember: Wheels performs a thorough warm-up routine before starting his workouts. Do not make the blunder of attempting a 1RM without your joints properly warmed up.

Friday: Deadlift
Deadlift: 1-10 reps
For his deadlift workouts, Larry does not perform any accessory exercises. He works up to a heavy set of 1-10 reps on the deadlift and then calls it a day.
As we said earlier, Larry Wheels only performs the deadlift every alternate week. On the weeks he does not deadlift, Larry does other upper body exercises.

Larry Wheels Bodybuilding Program
When Larry trains like a bodybuilder his goal is to build muscle size while maintaining his overall strength levels. His bodybuilding training split includes:
Day 1: Chest
Day 2: Back
Day 3: Shoulders
Day 4: Legs
Day 5: Arms
Day 6: Off
Day 7: Off
Wheels is a freak of nature. He currently weighs around 300 lbs and usually sports a six-pack throughout the year. You could not say the same thing for most pro athletes.
Larry trains each muscle group on a separate day so he can perform more volume per muscle.
Day 1: Chest Workout
Incline dumbbell bench press: 3 sets of 5-10 reps
Standing cable fly: 3 sets of 10-15 reps
Incline bench press: 3 sets of 10-15 reps
Rope cable pushdown: 3 sets of 10-15 reps
Wheels stays true to his powerlifting background even in his bodybuilding-style workouts. He does incline bench press with 200+ pound dumbbells.
Day 2: Back Workout
Barbell row: 3 sets of 5 reps
Wide-grip Lat pull-down: 3 sets of 10-15 reps
Pull-up: 3 sets to failure
Hammer strength low row: 3 sets of 10-15 reps
Why just five reps on the barbell row, you ask?
Larry being Larry, performs barbell rows with almost 600 lbs. Now, do not load up your barbell with the same weight. Be mindful, and use a weight that can help you reach failure around five reps, safely.
Wheels does pull-ups in the middle of his workout. For this exercise, perform as many reps as you can with just your bodyweight. However, if you can still do more than 20-reps, feel free to add resistance by using a dip belt.

Day 3: Shoulders Workout
Seated barbell overhead press: 3 sets of 1 rep
Machine Viking press: 3 sets of 10-15 reps
Seated dumbbell overhead press: 3 sets of 10-15 reps
Standing dumbbell lateral raise: 3 sets of 10-15 reps
To kick off his shoulder workout, Larry performs seated military press with almost 500 pounds. He limits the first exercise to a 1RM and does not perform 5-10 reps as he does in his other workouts.
For the next three exercises, Wheels pumps up the volume and performs a higher number of reps for a better pump and muscle fiber recruitment and activation.
If you never heard of the Viking press before, you are not alone. Larry Wheels picked up this exercise while training with the professional strongman competitor, Hafthor Bjornsson aka Thor.

Day 4: Legs Workout
Machine leg extension: 3 sets of 8-12 reps
Squat: 3 sets of 15 reps
Leg press: 3 sets of 10-15 reps
Seated leg curl: 3 sets of 10-15 reps
Walking lunges: 3 sets of 10-15 reps (each leg)
If you did not already know, Larry Wheels has incredible squatting strength. He likes to pre-exhaust his wheels with the leg extensions at the beginning of his workouts so he does not have to go super heavy on the squat (see what we did there?).
Follow the same workout with the same intensity, and you will surely be limping around for a few days.
Day 5: Arms Workout
V-handle Cable pushdown: 3 sets of 10-15 reps
Seated dumbbell French press: 3 sets of 10-15 reps
Incline skull crusher: 3 sets of 10-15 reps
Incline EZ-bar spider curl: 3 sets of 10-15 reps
Unilateral machine preacher curl: 3 sets of 10-15 reps
Although Larry Wheels has mountains for arms, he rarely goes heavy on arm day. He believes that since his arms are a secondary muscle group in his chest, shoulder, and back workouts, he does not need to push himself too hard on his arm day. While working his guns, Larry likes to train for muscle pumps.
Day 6: Rest Day

These are an awful lot of injuries for a single athlete. That tells you something about Larry Wheel’s training style. We recommend not going too hard on yourself, especially if you are a beginner.
If you are a newbie, you would be better off starting with a beginner’s training routine and then progressing to Larry Wheels’ training and diet program under the guidance of a professional.

Larry Wheels Shares Throwback Video Before He Had Any Muscle
Larry Wheels downsized.
So it appears that avid strength athlete Larry Wheels wasn’t always the muscle bound beast that he is today. Recently the powerlifter made a throwback post to social media that is sure to blow everyone’s minds. In the video Larry looks completely downsized and almost unrecognizable compared to his current stature.
No matter what a person chooses to do in life we all start from somewhere. There’s no way that an individual can start something and automatically be good at it, unless they are a natural of course. Even then it takes some time to get down the mechanics particularly for an athlete. For an athlete it can take some time before they actually see some results from their constant training.
As far as building quality muscle goes it takes a considerable about of training, patience, and determination. Patience in particular is necessary in order to make it past the early days where progress is slow. But if you do have that patience and determination the results can be incredible.
That was clearly the case for avid powerlifter and bodybuilder Larry Wheels. The strength athlete has become well known for his massive amount of musculature and strength. But again like everyone else he didn’t begin his journey chock full of muscle. It took many years of lifting and breaking PRs before the popular strength athlete became the man he is today.
Before that however, Larry Wheels had very little muscle on his frame. Recently Larry posted a throwback video of himself at a much younger age spotting a training partner at the gym. From the looks of the video he was clearly far younger than we’ve ever seen him before.

Larry Wheels Spots, Powerlifter Mike Edwards Not Injured After Failed Bench Press
Larry Wheels helped Mike Edwards escape injury during bench press accident.
The importance of a spotter while attempting a heavy lift cannot be overlooked. There have been countless times where a lifter has escaped injury because of the help of a spotter. Recently, there was another incident when powerlifter Mike Edwards had a barbell slip out of his hands while attempting a bench press. Larry Wheels was there for the spot.
During a heavy training session, both Wheels and Edwards were seen hitting some big lifts. Edwards set a new PR with a 530-pound bench press before the incident occurred. Edwards racked up four plates on each side and had the barbell slip out of his hand. On the way up, the bar slipped and slammed into the chest of Edwards. Wheels was there for a quick save and there was no injury.

Right after the incident, both lifters took to social media to confirm that there was no injury. Mike Edwards even commented on Wheels’ post.
“IM OKAY EVERYONE?,” Edwards wrote.
During this bench press session, both lifters accomplished goals. Edwards hit a new PR while Wheels took on another challenge that was offered.
Hafthor Bjornsson commented on a recent video of Larry Wheels and offered a challenge. This was for Wheels to complete 20 reps on bench of 440 pounds. Wheels wasted no time attempting the challenge and completed a total of 23 reps. This beat Bjornsson’s PR with this weight by 13 reps. This is just another feat for Wheels to add to his personal achievement list, which has grown significantly in recent months.
When these powerlifters hit the gym, there is a massive amount of weight being moved and there is always the danger of an injury. This was seen back in April when Ryan Crowley joined Wheels for a session. He was attempting a heavy incline bench press and suffered an injury to his pec. It was seen tearing in the video and this is a career-threatening injury for a powerlifter.
Mike Edwards and Larry Wheels accomplished many feats during this session and that includes escaping injury. This just solidifies that spotters should be present when attempting a heavy lift or one that you have never done before.

Larry Wheels Accepts And Completes Hafthor Bjornsson’s Bench Press Challenge
Larry Wheels wasted no time completing a recent bench press challenge.
When a challenge is offered, Larry Wheels is going to give it a shot — and more often than not, take it down. That is exactly what happened when he attempted the bench press challenge offered by Hafthor Bjornsson.
On Monday, Wheels shared a post on Instagram that saw him crush a bench press session. He completed six reps of 529 pounds and 21 reps of 396.8 pounds. Bjornsson decided to comment on the video and offer his own challenge. This was for Wheels to complete 20 reps of 200kg.
Wheels wasted no time taking on this challenge. On Thursday morning, the powerlifter returned to the bench and loaded up 440 pounds. He powered through the first 20 reps and added three more to exceed the total asked for from Bjornsson.

Hafthor Bjornsson returned to the comments’ section to acknowledge the feat done by Larry Wheels.

It is no surprise to see Wheels take on a challenge when one is offered. He has been taking on many personal challenges and crushing his own records in recent months. This time, he took down a PR of one of the top strongmen of all-time.
Bjornsson explained in his comment that he had one completed 10 reps of 200kg. Outlifting Bjornsson in any aspect is impressive given his history. He currently holds the world deadlift record at 501kg (1,104.5lb). Bjornsson took over the title in May 2020 from Eddie Hall by a single kilogram. Hall became the first person to ever deadlift 500kg at the time.
This is not the first bench press challenge the Larry Wheels has taken on recently. He set a PR bench press with 308 pounds for 44 reps last week. His strength is unquestioned and he continues to be a big name in powerlifting.
Larry Wheels and Hafthor Bjornsson have trained together in the past and remain close. Even with Bjornsson’s transition to boxing, he has remained active in the powerlifting community and is still a huge figure. Let’s see if there are anymore challenges made to Wheels moving forward for him to attempt.

Even after transitioning to the boxing ring, Hafthor Bjornsson still shows interest in weightlifting. Recently, he was seen in the comments’ section of one of Larry Wheels’ feats of strength. Bjornsson offered a new challenge for Wheels to take on while bench pressing.
Wheels has been on a tear in the gym in recent months. He has been setting many personal records and repping huge amounts of weight in different exercises. This bench press session was no different. Wheels took to Instagram to share another impressive lift.
It began when Wheels took on a 529-pound bench press and competed six reps. He then powered through 21 reps of 396.8 pounds.

In 2020, Bjornsson completed the heaviest deadlift in history at 501kg (1,104.5lb). In the ring, Bjornsson has completed two exhibition fights against Steven Ward and Simon Vallily. Larratt is a professional arm wrestler and this is a sport that Larry Wheels has ventured into recently. He has continued training for arm wrestling while continuing to do some incredible things while weight lifting.
Hafthor Bjornsson has trained with Wheels before during his time as a powerlifter. Since making the successful transition, the two have not joined forces but remain close. That is clear by the comment on Wheels’ video. It will be interesting to see if Wheels takes on the challenge given by Bjornsson. If he does, it will certainly be a must-see post.

Larry Wheels hit another huge personal record in a recent training session.
Larry Wheels is known for his incredible feats of strength. Recently, that has been being put to good use accomplishing different personal records. On Monday, Wheels loaded up 308 pounds on bench press and hit an amazing PR of 44 reps.
Wheels can add this to his recent list of PRs in training. This includes 17 shoulder press reps with a 140-pound dumbbell. In September, Wheels completed a massive 950-pound squat, which was also a personal best. Wheels shared the video on Instagram where he is seen moving 308 pounds with ease.

In his caption, Larry Wheels explains how he was dealing with pain in his bicep just days before. This came after arm-wrestling training that fired up his bicep brachialis. Wheels threw on some elbow wraps and this helps the pain enough for him to accomplish this incredible feat.
Wheels is still training for arm wrestling. This is an avenue he has been down recently and has competed in two matches to this point. The first came when Wheels was taken down by Aleksandr Toproll, better known as Schoolboy. In December, Wheels lost to Brandon Allen in a best-of-six match. It is unknown when Wheels will compete again but he is training to improve his game.
Larry Wheels has returned to powerlifting after some time off training as an arm wrestler. This was mainly to focus on improving grip strength, which is important when competing in the sport. Wheels has decided to continue training while returning to his roots as a powerlifter.
There was another minor setback when Wheels injured his quad during a heavy-squat session. This came at the end of 2020 but Wheels quickly returned to the gym and has been healthy since. It is clear that his strength is better than ever in all areas. While Wheels continues to train as an arm wrestler, it is clear that his best work is done moving heavy weights in the gym.

Kiera Jaston Squats 500 Pounds During Recent Training Session With Larry Wheels
Kiera Jaston recently joined Larry Wheels for a training session.
Larry Wheels is known for massive lifts in the gym and has been on a tear recently. Wheels has been putting up many PR’s, including a 950-pound squat. In a recent gym session, Wheels was not the one putting up impressive numbers on the squat rack. Kiera Jaston joined Wheels to lift recently and completed a huge 500-pound squat.
Jaston burst onto the scene as the youngest IFBB pro in Europe. She is known for massive deadlifts but is continuing to put up big numbers in other areas as well. Jaston entered the session looking to complete this 500-pound squat and was able to get it done. This is 20% heavier than her previous best on the squat rack.
Larry Wheels uploaded a video to his YouTube page detailing the training session for each athlete. Wheels was focused on completing 10-15 reps with 310kg on his back.

After a quick warmup, the duo began putting some serious weight on the bar. Kiera Jaston implements an interesting tactic when squatting. She holds the squatting position before rising back up. She does this up until 190kg.
“I spend more time in the hold, make sure I’m down there, pause squats, and sometimes you like the tempo and sometimes one and a half squats just really spending time down in the hold as much as possible. So hopefully on the day, it’s actually ingrained in my brain to actually stay down long enough. It’s definitely working. My squat depth has got a lot better so far,” Kiera Jaston said.
Wheels was quick to backup Jaston’s notion. It was also interesting to see that Jaston does not use knee wraps. This comes after both lifters were able to reach their goals for the session.
Jaston completed one rep of 500 pounds while Wheels completed a rep of 585 pounds. Wheels does use knee wraps. Jaston initiated the conversation about knee wraps during squatting and believes it helps her hold the squatting position and does not hinder progress.
“I tend to stop at the bottom and even when I get to my heavier squats, I ten to stop at the bottom. This is one of the reasons why I don’t use the wraps because I don’t feel like I get as much out of them as like you would.”
Kiera Jaston has burst onto the scene as a powerlifter while Larry Wheels has been testing the waters of other sports, including arm wrestling. There are different training methods and tendencies related to each and Wheels explained how he keeps them separate.
“Right now, I’m having fun with powerlifting style of training which I’ll shoot in my squat and bench training weekly. I’ll have two bodybuilding days for arms and for legs. But for arm wrestling, while my coaches were here, we were doing arm wrestling training four days a week and it was pretty brutal,” Larry Wheels said.
This was an entertaining training session with two elite powerlifters. Both Larry Wheels and Kiera Jaston will continue to put up big numbers and this means special things could be coming in 2022.
Larry Wheels Falls To Brandon Allen In Recent Arm Wrestling Match
Larry Wheels recently took on Brandon Allen in an arm wrestling match.
Larry Wheels has been putting up some incredible lifts in the gym. He has been crushing personal records in recent months and sharing his achievements to social media. While Wheels has found success and built a large following as a powerlifter, he has also dabbled in the sport of arm wrestling.
Recently, Wheels took on Brandon Allen in a best-of-six match where one competitor has to win four rounds to take home a victory. This comes after Wheels was defeated twice against Aleksandr Toproll, known as Schoolboy. Wheels got off to a strong start against Allen but in the end, it was a 4-2 victory for Allen.
The powerlifter used brute strength to win the first two rounds. After giving it his all early, Wheels seemed a bit tired and Allen took advantage. He would win rounds three and four with ease before Wheels regained some energy. Round five was a battle but Allen countered an early pull from Wheels before finishing off the match in round six.
There was some drama building up coming into the match. Larry Wheels shared a video to his YouTube channel showing some tall between the athletes leading up. This includes some comments about Allen’s coach and how Wheels believed there is no coach who could help.
Allen also mentioned that he had been training with Mike Ayello. Wheels also has experience training with Ayello and said that this could be his next opponent.
“I would shock him the next time. Matter of face, he might be my next opponent,” Larry Wheels said.
Brandon Allen joked about Wheels’ ability in training and even acknowledged the lack of following that he has compared to Wheels, who currently has 2.7 million followers on Instagram.
“From what he (Ayello) told me, there is no way you improved that much,” Brandon Allen said.
“You’re gonna disappoint your fans. My fans will be stoked, all six of them.”
