Lou Ferrigno Takes Tour Of Fitness Icon Jack LaLanne’s Home Gym

Lou Ferrigno Takes Tour Of Fitness Icon Jack LaLanne’s Home Gym

Lou Ferrigno was shown around by LaLanne’s wife, Elaine LaLanne.
Lou Ferrigno is known for his massive physique and is considered one of the pioneers of the sport of bodybuilding. Recently, Ferrigno took some time and shared his experience touring the gym of another fitness legend — Jack LaLanne.
The bodybuilder joined LaLanne’s wife, Elaine, for a special look at his home gym that is equipped with machines from the 1930’s. LaLanne was a fitness and nutrition guru and also worked as a motivational speaker. LaLanne began inspiring others to invest in their own health before it was mainstream. After his death in 2011, Arnold Schwarzenegger credited LaLanne for his work. This is something Ferrigno hit on early as well.

“Jack was way ahead of his time. Way ahead. In the late 1930s, people condoned weight training, they said you workout with weights, you get stiff and muscle unbalance,” Lou Ferrigno said.
“They didn’t understand what nutrition was. Back in World War II, a lot of people were smoking. People were going home having a drink and smoking but Jack was a pioneer. He knew about this.”

Lou Ferrigno began his tour by showing off some machines that Jack LaLanne innovated himself. This is before the new gym technology was founded. The machine that is showed off is an earlier version of machines used today where the pin can be inserted into the person’s desired weight.
This is just one example of how bodybuilding and weight training have come a long way. In the early 1900s, the methods were much different and LaLanne is credited with helping take some big steps forward.
“This one is an old-fashioned. This is before Smith invented a Smith machine. Jack’s idea, with two pipes and two simple leg presses, with these weights. Amazing, and she said these were from back in the 30s.”

Lou Ferrigno is one bodybuilder that has reaped the benefits of weight training over the years. He built a physique that is still iconic today on the bodybuilding stage and the big screen.
Ferrigno developed a rivalry with Schwarzenegger during the crux of their careers. This includes some battles during Mr. Olympia competitions. Ferrigno won Mr. America and Mr. Universe titles during his career before moving to acting. He is best known for his role as The Incredible Hulk. Ferrigno quickly became one of the biggest names in bodybuilding and was known for his incredible strength.
“What an incredible woman, inspiration and legend @jackandelaine_lalanne is.
I’m honored to have been able to call her my friend for decades now.
It’s amazing how positive and energetic Elaine is. Though Jack has been gone from us for a while now I know he’s smiling down watching us in his home gym.
Miss you Jack,” Ferrigno wrote on Instagram.
Lou Ferrigno is an important member of the history of bodybuilding. Jack LaLanne is another influential figure in fitness and has been for many years. It is amazing to see some of the early equipment that was used while weight training and how it has enhanced over the years. LaLanne certainly helped pave the way for today’s generation.

Lou Ferrigno Answers: Who Deserves To Be Called The Greatest Bodybuilder Of All Time?

Lou Ferrigno Answers: Who Deserves To Be Called The Greatest Bodybuilder Of All Time?

[embedded content]
Lou Ferrigno debates who is truly the greatest bodybuilder of all time.
Lou Ferrigno is a bodybuilder who competed in the Golden Era of the sport alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger and Franco Columbu. Even after retiring, he has remained passionate about bodybuilding and fitness up until today. That’s why we asked him who he thinks is the best bodybuilder in the history of the sport. Of course, Ferrigno finds the answer not 100% easy to answer. In our latest GI Exclusive interview, Lou Ferrigno answers – who truly deserves to be called the greatest bodybuilder of all time?

Lou Ferrigno competed alongside many greats in his time – and was inspired by legendary bodybuilders before him. He’s stood on stage next to Arnold Schwarzenegger and looked up to Steve Reeves – which inspired him to become a bodybuilder. So who does he think deserves to be called the greatest bodybuilder of all time?
That’s the very question we asked Lou Ferrigno when we sat down with him for a video interview about his latest hearing implant. As a true lover of bodybuilding – he can’t easily pick one name. He compares each legendary bodybuilder like a different type of muscle or sports car. They each stand tall as beautiful and beloved machines (or people). Neither is truly 100% better or worse than the other. It just depends on your preference.
For Lou Ferrigno – that preference might ultimately fall on Steve Reeves. To Ferrigno, Reeves had one of the greatest classic physiques of all time. His proportions, aesthetic, and conditioning all came together like a marble statue. He explains in our interview that it was Steve Reeves who inspired him to become a bodybuilder in the first place. Without Reeves, we wouldn’t have the Incredible Hulk – nor would we have the epic rivalry with Arnold Schwarzenegger seen in Pumping Iron.
Lou Ferrigno also of course mentions Arnold Schwarzenegger. The bodybuilder who stood tall with seven Mr. Olympia titles and ultimately became an international phenomenon through big screen movies. It’s impossible to deny that Schwarzenegger is in contention for the greatest of all time.

Interestingly enough, Lou Ferrigno does not mention the new school bodybuilders in his self debate trying to determine the best of all time. Perhaps this is due to his connection to the Golden Era. While he does pay attention to the modern sport – he finds the denser physiques less appealing than the Classic Physiques of the past. He enjoys that the sport has spread its wings with multiple divisions. But he does find it a completely different sport than the one he participated in all those years ago.
Ultimately, Lou Ferrigno doesn’t land on a particular name. He does find that the bodybuilders of the past had more camaraderie than bodybuilders today. This is something that he has stated much in the past as well. He also doesn’t completely discount his own name from the options for best of all time. He doesn’t go as far to say he is the greatest – but he believes that his placement and past shows – including the Mr. Universe – put him as an option (a type of sports car to go back to the analogy) that some would find preferable to the rest.

Lou Ferrigno Fixes Hearing With Implant: Calls It “Life Changing”

Lou Ferrigno Fixes Hearing With Implant: Calls It “Life Changing”

Lou Ferrigno can hear like never before due to new hearing aid implant.
Lou Ferrigno is most known for two things. He was an iconic bodybuilder and star in Pumping Iron. He was also the Incredible Hulk on television for many years. It is also well documented that Ferrigno has suffered hearing loss since a young age. It’s partially the reason for his now iconic cadence of speaking. Now at 69 years old, he’s starting to hear like never before due to a specialized implant. In our latest GI Exclusive interview, Lou Ferrigno details his new hearing implant and what it was like to be a pro bodybuilder with severe hearing loss.
The world may know Lou Ferrigno as the original Incredible Hulk. But the bodybuilding world also remembers him as a legendary bodybuilder and star of the iconic film Pumping Iron. What some might not know as well is that Ferrigno also suffers from hearing loss. Since a young age, Ferrigno had lost 75% of his hearing. Due to this, he relied on a hearing aid for most of his life.

Technology changes at an alarming pace. And now Lou Ferrigno is experiencing the world of hearing in a whole new light due to a cochlear implant. The implant, over time, has allowed him to hear without the use of a traditional hearing aid. More importantly, it has also allowed him to hear on a level he had never experienced in his life.

“Over the age of 65, one out of three people were having hearing loss,” Lou Ferrigno states in our interview. He goes on:
“There are some bodybuilders out there who have had hearing loss. But the reason why I’m talking about this is because I’m going to give a lot of people hope. That this is not a dreadful thing. It’s a very positive experience because the surgery is really minor. Especially if they can have a life changing experience. Especially even now I heard different people. I can appreciate hearing people talk. Hearing the ‘S’ sound. The final consonant… People would say I have a slight lisp to my speech but now I’m overcoming that because of the cochlear implant.”

Lou Ferrigno goes on to detail what his life was like growing up with limited hearing. How he was bullied due to his massive hearing aids. That bullying, in part, was why Ferrigno eventually turned to bodybuilding. He wanted to prove he was strong in the face of bullies.
He also goes into detail about what training was like as a bodybuilder with limited hearing. Due to the intensity of his workouts, he wouldn’t wear a hearing aid during training. This made it harder for him to full engage in the social experience of the gym. He even admits that there have been times gym patrons thought he was being rude and ignoring them. But in reality, he couldn’t hear them. He relied mostly on reading lips in the gym.
Now all of that has changed. Lou Ferrigno will be able to full hear in the gym. Every clank of the weights and grunt of lifters. It’s an entirely new experience. As he stated in the quote above. It was not only a life changing experience for him – but he hopes to spread the word for others so they can have that life changing experience as well.
