Talking Huge | EP 15: Craig Golias’ Honest Predictions For Olympia 2021

Talking Huge | EP 15: Craig Golias’ Honest Predictions For Olympia 2021

[embedded content]
Craig Golias breaks down his no bullsh*t predictions for the Mr. Olympia 2021.
Welcome to another episode of Talking Huge – a weekly digital series in which Craig Golias talks in-depth with Vlad Yudin on the latest trending topics in bodybuilding. Raw, honest, and uncut – Craig Golias shares his opinions on all things bodybuilding. In this episode, Craig Golias makes his Olympia 2021 predictions, shares his thoughts on Michal Krizo, and briefly reflects on the tragic passing of George Peterson.

Talking Huge had to unfortunately skip some episodes due to technical difficulties while both Craig Golias and Vlad Yudin were on business travel. Now that both are settled back into the studio – the two of them catch up on all events since the Arnold Classic 2021 and look ahead to this weekend’s Mr. Olympia competition. As somewhat of an outsider to professional bodybuilding – Golias’ predictions are interesting indeed. Will they come true? Let’s jump into the episode.
Craig Golias’ Bold Mr. Olympia 2021 Predictions
Craig Golias will be attending the Mr. Olympia 2021 in person this year. We were able to touch base right before he left for our episode of Talking Huge. With the Olympia only days away – we asked Craig what his thoughts were on the lineup. He had very specific opinions on who would land where in the top six. Some of his picks might not be what you expect.

But Craig Golias is also not completely crazy. He still settles on Big Ramy landing the top spot for a repeat win. While this is not guaranteed – it’s a thought that many analysis, fans, and athletes expect for the weekend event. It’s only after the Big Ramy first spot that Craig’s predictions start to get interesting.
Craig strongly believes that Hadi Choopan will be able to rise up and place second above the rest of the pack. Choopan has proven that his smaller stature cannot stop him from succeeding in the Men’s Open division. Second place would be the highest rank yet – can he really pull it off?
Craig Golias then places Brandon Curry in third, William Bonac in fourth, and Nick Walker in fifth. Walker is an interesting choice. Many fans hope for him to do a top five finish at the Olympia – but he’s still relatively young in the game. Despite this – he did have an astronomical physique at the Arnold Classic 2021. Placing in the top five certainly is possible. Craig seems to lean on this side of things. It will be interesting to see indeed.
There’s no doubt that this year’s lineup is one of the more competitive rosters in recent memory. While Big Ramy might be a clear leader in the pack – he’s nowhere near the level of guarantee that Phil Heath used to be when he was still in his reign. There’s a lot of moving pieces this year and many new generation competitors finally coming into their own. It will be a sight to behold.
Wrap Up
There are far more topics discussed in this episode than we can cover in this article. Craig Golias also talks about his take on the Arnold Classic 2021 results, his reaction to the hype behind Elite Pro athlete Michal Krizo, and answers some fan questions. Olympia 2021 Men’s 212 Prejudging: Derek Lunsford’s Transformation Just Might Win The Show

Olympia 2021 Men’s 212 Prejudging: Derek Lunsford’s Transformation Just Might Win The Show

Derek Lunsford made a huge impression with his improvements. Is it enough to win Men’s 212 Olympia?
The Friday prejudging has come to a close and once again the Men’s 212 division has proven itself to be one of the closest battles of the entire weekend. The quality of the top athletes in this division is so impressive – that the difference between our top competitors are razor thin. While it might seem like there is a lead coming out of the prejudging. The battle is so close – anything can change between now and the finals later tonight. Most notable, Derek Lunsford showcased massive improvements that might just place him ahead at the Men’s 212 Olympia. Let’s break it down.
Right off the bat, we seem to have clear frontrunners in the form of Derek Lunsford, Kamal Elgargni, and returning champion Shaun Clarida. These three stood tall in the final callout – and were put through some sweat-inducing paces by the judges. Each one of these three competitors stood in the middle of the comparisons before the prejudging concluded.

What can’t be understated is just how close these three bodybuilders are in physique quality. Each of these three competitors hold a different kind of genetic structure – yet somehow all three of them are so on point that it’s still a hard call to make who stood above the rest.
Let’s break it down in our full Olympia 2021 pre-judging and analysis report:
Olympia 2021 Men’s 212 Pre-Judging Breakdown

The first callout featured our three lead bodybuilders as mentioned above – plus Ahmad Ashkanani trailing in at the edges of the callout lineup. It was immediately clear that the likes of Clarida, Lunsford, and Elgargni impressed in their individual routines. But this was our first time seeing them side by side.
It was clear at this point that these four were likely our top choices. But the second callout solidified our top three. Ashkanani was left behind to remain in the second callout – comparing him to the second round of probably lower placing competitors. It all became clear at this moment that the judges had their top three Men’s 212 Olympia 2021 competitors locked in.

1st Callout Lineup

Ahmad Ashkanani
Kamal Elgargni
Derek Lunsford
Shaun Clarida

2nd Callout Lineup

Ahmad Ashkanani
Kerrith Bajjo
Naser Mohammed
Angel Calderon Frias
John Jewett
Nathan Epler

This then brought us into our further back callouts. The third through fifth callouts showcased our trailing athletes. The most notable upset here was Keone Pearson. He had come into the Olympia 2021 with a lot of hype behind him. Many fans hoped he would perhaps rise up to win the show. At the very least, he was a top 5 contender going into the weekend.
Keone ultimately found himself in the fourth callout. Far behind the top five placing that many expected. His weak point here was his conditioning. Perhaps something went off with his timing leading into the weekend – but the sharpness needed to stand against the top guys wasn’t there.
Despite placing in the fourth callout – there is time for change leading into the final night. Keone Pearson could perhaps bring in some final changes to bump himself into a higher placing. But as it stands now – there’s no chance he can break up the final top three.

3rd Callout Lineup

Noel Adame
Tonio Burton
Lucas Coelho
Pasquale D’Angelo

4th Callout Lineup

Steve Benthin
Piotr Borecki
Ahmed El Wardany
Junho Kim
Keone Pearson
Vladimir Iacovlev

5th Callout Lineup

Ahmed Ashkanani
Nathan Epler
Angel Calderon Frias
Naser Mohammed

Speaking of the final callout for the Olympia 2021 Men’s 212, we returned to our expected top three competitors in the form of Shaun Clarida, Derek Lunsford, and Kamal Elgargni. The competitors were brought out in numerical order first. This placed Lunsford right in the center. The athletes were put through a round of poses before Lunsford was moved out of the center spot.
Clarida was then moved into the center for another round of poses. But this wasn’t the end for the final comparison round. The judges then switched in Kamal Elgargni into the center for one final batch of poses.
Elgargni ending in the center might be a peek into where the judges are leaning. Perhaps Elgargni is an inch scored above the rest and the frontrunner of the show. That being said, we’ve seen the judges often have some fun in the final callout. It’s not unusual for the judges to purposefully place all three athletes into the center (as we saw here). This could be in part to entertain the fans while also giving each athlete a chance to be compared to each other.

Final Callout Lineup

Kamal Elgargni
Derek Lunsford
Shaun Clarida

That’s why we have a lot of hype and excitement behind Derek Lunsford. One could argue his center placing was just numerical – but his improvements are so vast compared to previous years that he nearly stole the show. This is the version of Lunsford that fans have been begging for over the past few years. The promise has been fulfilled – but will it be enough to win the entire Olympia 2021 Men’s 212?
Shaun Clarida looked on point matching his last year’s winning physique – he may have even made some slight improvements. Kamal Elgargni also looked sharper this year than in 2020. Lunsford’s only knock might be his muscle maturity. He’s a bit shorter in the tooth compared to Clarida and Elgargni – and it shows in some of Lunsford’s structure.
That being said, the judges often reward improvement above all else. Derek Lunsford brought that in spades. His improved physique was so impressive it nearly lead to a double take – at least for this writer.
Ultimately, we might give the squeaker lead to Derek Lunsford at this time. But with each of these three competitors so close in quality – anything can change by the finals. There is no guarantee. Right now, we can’t rightfully say there is a shoe in winner. That makes for an exciting show later tonight. We can’t wait to see what the rest of the Olympia 2021 Men’s 212 holds.
Until then, stick around the Generation Iron Fitness Network for our continued updates and coverage of the Olympia 2021.

Olympia 2021 Breakdown
Men’s Open Preview
The highlight event of the weekend is the Mr. Olympia Men’s Open competition. Featuring the best competitors from across the world – these titans will battle for the ultimate prize. This year’s lineup proves to be a truly competitive one. A clash a solidifying new generation and iconic veterans.
Returning champion Big Ramy is the one to beat this year. If he can bring in the same size and conditioning – or even improve – he will be near unstoppable from a repeat victory. But he’ll have plenty of talented bodybuilders biting at his heels such as William Bonac, Hadi Choopan, and Brandon Curry. Any one of these giants can slip past Ramy and win the prize – should they bring improvements from last year.
Relative newcomers Nick Walker, Hunter Labrada, and Iain Valliere are also showcasing some incredible physiques. Walker, who is coming right off a major victory at the Arnold Classic 2021, has been hyped to be the dark horse for the Olympia. Will he be able to win the competition – or at the very least place top 3?

Classic Physique Preview
The biggest clash to look out for in the Classic Physique division is a three-way battle between Breon Ansley, Terrence Ruffin, and returning champion Chris Bumstead. Coming back for his potential third straight win – Bumstead is the one to beat. Ruffin surprised the bodybuilding world by not only placing well but beating out former Classic Physique Olympia champion Breon Ansley.
On his end, Ansley has a lot to prove. Not only did he lose his crown in 2019 – he slid further into third place in 2020. During Thursday’s Olympia press conference – Ansley beamed confidence. So much so that he threw off his shirt and did some quick poses. Bumstead was not impressed.
Of course, there are plenty of other deserving Classic Physique competitors hungry to prove themselves and shake up the top spots. We can’t cover them all here – but you can check out the full lineup below.

Men’s 212 Preview
The Men’s 212 division is stacked at this year’s Olympia. Most notably, we have the returning champion Shaun Clarida hungry to prove himself a repeat victor. Clarida has long been pushing for his chance in the sun – and finally earned in 2020. Many considered his physique pitch perfect – a once in a lifetime showcase.
Shaun Clarida won’t have it easy though. He has former champion Kamal Elgargni returning for revenge. There is also some other incredible physiques in the form of Derek Lunsford and Keone Pearson. Any one of these athletes can tighten the screws to show up new and improved.
Of course, we’d be remise to not mention who won’t be on the Men’s 212 stage this evening. George Peterson was set to compete for a chance to prove his worth after moving up form Classic Physique. Unfortunately, Peterson tragically passed away just two days before the competition. His presence will be missed not only on stage but in the community and lives of those he’s touched.

Men’s and Women’s Physique will also be present alongside Figure, Bikini, and Wellness. All in all the event makes for a massive 11 divisions present during the weekend event. That means more drama, excitement, and champions to stand in the spotlight.

Following in the tradition of last year, the Olympia is live streaming the entire Meet The Olympians event for free. While this is mostly an opportunity for fans to meet one-on-one with the pros, expect to see some on the fly interviews and predictions for the upcoming Olympia 2021 weekend.

Robert Timms’ Physique Will “Blow The Hardness & Tightness Out Of The Water At This Olympia”

Robert Timms’ Physique Will “Blow The Hardness & Tightness Out Of The Water At This Olympia”

[embedded content]
Robert Timms promises something different and next level in his physique at the Olympia 2021.
With just a few days until the Olympia 2021, fans and athletes are getting hyped up for the biggest bodybuilding event of the year. Competitors are in process of tightening in their peak week timing to present the ultimate physique on stage. Robert Timms is a Classic Physique competitor aiming to make big waves at this year’s Olympia. In our latest GI Exclusive interview, Robert Timms claims fans should expect “something different” and a next level physique at Olympia 2021.

When it comes to preparing for a competition, Robert Timms washes out all of the white noise. He doesn’t worry about what comments on social media say. He doesn’t care what rival competitors look like in their physique update photos. He only cares about the opinion of two people – his coach and his father.
This is the mindset Robert Timms informed us about during our recent video interview just weeks before the Olympia 2021. Timms has been a top tier Classic Physique competitor – and in its earliest inception as a division – Timms was one of the first pinnacles showcasing what Classic Physique should look like. It makes sense then that his Instagram handle and nickname is “Mr. Classic Physique.”

Despite this, he has yet to win a Classic Physique Olympia title for himself. This isn’t for lack of promise – the Classic Physique division sports some of the most competitive physiques in the entire sport. That’s why this year Robert Timms has adjusted his prep to transform his physique into “something different” – to use his own words. He plans to show a physique that his fans have never seen before in his career.
We asked Robert Timms what his strategy was going into the Olympia 2021. He answered by claiming his goal was to bring something special. A different physique than he’s brought to the stage in years past. To do this – he focused on really bringing in his conditioning. He wants to “blow the hardness and tightness out of the water” as he puts it confidently.

And this isn’t simply confident pre-competition cockiness. Robert Timms has shown some physique updates on his social media in weeks past – and the results are looking spectacular. Many fans have already noticed that he can be a real big threat to the returning champion Chris Bumstead – as well as other high profile competitors such as Breon Ansley and Terrence Ruffin.
Just a few weeks ago, Arnold Schwarzenegger boldly claimed during his Arnold Classic commentary that Classic Physique was the best division of the sport. While many might take offense to his dismissal of Men’s Open, his excitement for Classic Physique is shared by many. The division has proven to be a rousing success.
It’s pleased fans who miss the Golden Era of Physique. It’s also pleasing fans by the sheer competitiveness of the athletes in the division. There’s no doubt that Classic Physique sports some of the most electric face offs on stage. Each year – the Olympia champion is can be seen as a crapshoot. No one competitor, even Chris Bumstead, is a shoe in for the prize. Robert Timms seems to be yet another to throw into the mix.

Big Ramy Weighs In At 305 LBS (With Clothes) During Olympia 2021 Press Conference

Olympia 2021 press conference: Big Ramy jumps on the scale weighing in at 305 pounds.
The Olympia 2021 press conference is always an exciting tip of the iceberg for bodybuilding’s biggest event of the year. Rivals trade barbs, hype builds to an amazing level, and there’s always a surprise or two. For example, this year – a scale was brought on stage for an impromptu weigh-in. Big Ramy stepped on the scale and weighed in at 305 pounds.
The Olympia 2021 press conference was a bit different this year. Instead of the entire roster of athletes sitting at tables with mics – the competitors were brought out in groups based on division. One of the most exciting moments of the conference was the Men’s Open group – which brought out Brandon Curry, Hadi Choopan, William Bonac, and returning champion Big Ramy.

Big Ramy, of course, is best known for his signature size. The question on many fans minds going into this competition – will Ramy bring in even more size? Or will he trim down in order to further improve conditioning? The question was put to rest Thursday afternoon – as conference host Bob Cicherillo brought out a literal scale to weight Ramy on the spot.
Big Ramy, for his credit, was candid about his size before the scale was brought out. He claims to be weighing in at 290 pounds. Definitely the higher end of the spectrum for Men’s Open – but nothing limit breaking. Bob Cicherillo wanted to put Ramy’s words to the test. A scale was brought out onto the stage and an impromptu weigh-in was conducted.

The scale revealed Big Ramy weighing in at 305 pounds. Of course, he was still wearing a full suit, shoes, and holding a microphone. Can that account for 15 extra pounds? That might be a bit much – but it lands him close to where he claims to be regarding his weight.
While this might not be an official 100% accurate weigh-in – it does show us that Big Ramy is still holding onto his signature size. Will this hurt his conditioning this year? We’ll soon find out on Friday night’s pre-judging. Ramy’s conditioning has been inconsistent in years past. Perhaps his Olympia 2020 showcase was the key that unlocked his struggles. But we won’t know for sure until he wins another Sandow trophy. That’s what makes this year so important for Ramy. He needs to prove that he is not a one time fluke but a reigning champion.

Upon revealing his clothed weight of 305 pounds, William Bonac had some strong opinions to share. “Let’s see if the weight can help you,” Bonac chimed in as Ramy was stepping off the scale. Bonac is known for his smaller stature compared to the likes of Brandon Curry or Big Ramy. This has always been a sticking point for critics – could Bonac ever beat Ramy (while on point) due to the limitations of his size? Bonac doesn’t seem worried. His words seem to imply he thinks he can out-condition the returning champ.
But all of this is just talk. It’s fun, it’s exciting, it gets the crowd going. But until we see them side by side on stage tomorrow night – we won’t know the true chances each of these athletes have.
Generation Iron will continue to cover the Olympia 2021 all weekend – including tonight’s Meet The Olympians alongside the pre-judging and finals both Friday and Saturday. Stay tuned and make sure to visit our official Olympia 2021 coverage page.

Berry De Mey breaks down the Mr. Olympia 2021 lineup and makes his predictions.
Berry De Mey is a former pro bodybuilder and an iconic bodybuilding coach. That’s why with only a few days before the Mr. Olympia 2021, we connected with him to get his insight and analysis about the line up. This year is set to be one of the more competitive rosters we’ve seen in quite some time. A clash of the old and the new generations make for what is expected to be an intense and exciting show. In our latest GI Exclusive interview, Berry De Mey makes his predictions for the Olympia 2021.

The pro bodybuilding world has been in somewhat of a transition over the past decade. The current generation is getting, well, older and young up-and-coming bodybuilders are starting to hone their skills into formidable opponents. That’s what makes this year’s Mr. Olympia so exciting. We have the likes of Hunter Labrada, Nick Walker, and Iain Valliere going up against veterans such as Big Ramy, William Bonac, and Brandon Curry.
This week, we connected with world famous bodybuilder and trainer Berry De Mey via video chat. With just a few days before this epic Olympia showdown, we asked for his thoughts on the lineup and his predictions for the Men’s Open division. Berry De Mey has his own criteria of what the ideal Men’s Open physique should look like. So he gives his personal opinion – and then a more objective analysis what to expect at Olympia 2021.

Berry De Mey doesn’t sugarcoat it. The hype is real, Big Ramy is a top contender for the Mr. Olympia as returning champion. The truth is that many of the competitors, no matter how much they try, can match Ramy’s size. So long as Ramy keeps up his conditioning and comes in slightly better than last year – he’s a shoe in for the first spot.
That being said, Berry De Mey personally favors bodybuilder Patrick Moore. He believes that Moore hits all of the marks of what he wishes all Men’s Open bodybuilders looked like. He wishes judging would appreciate that kind of aesthetic over mass and size. Rather than a compliment to it.
But this doesn’t mean Berry De Mey thinks Patrick Moore will win the Mr. Olympia 2021. He knows all change happens slow – and so long as most bodybuilders focus more on mass, Moore will look like an outlier in a way that hurts his chances rather than helps. He hopes to see Moore one day become the Olympia champion.

Berry De Mey also points out that there are a lot of hungry talented competitors rising in the ranks competing at the Olympia 2021. Veteran bodybuilders like Brandon Curry and William Bonac are not necessarily guaranteed top 3 spots. If Hunter Labrada, Hadi Choopan, and Nick Walker bring their best – they can overtake the top 5 positions knocking down former champion Brandon Curry into a lower spot.
All in all, this is to say that nothing is guaranteed at the Olympia 2021. This should be one of the more exciting years of the event in quite some time. Will Big Ramy cement himself as a reigning champion for years to come? Or will we have yet another new champion this year. We’ll soon find out this weekend.

Iain Valliere: There Are Only Two Ways To Beat Big Ramy At Mr. Olympia 2021

Iain Valliere: There Are Only Two Ways To Beat Big Ramy At Mr. Olympia 2021

[embedded content]
Iain Valliere breaks down the two approaches to beating Big Ramy ahead of the Mr. Olympia 2021.
We are less than one week away from the biggest bodybuilding event of the year – Mr. Olympia 2021. This will be Big Ramy’s first chance to defend his champion status. Will he prove his win to be more than just a fluke? Or will he be another athlete to join the one and done list of single Olympia champions? Only time will tell – but in the meantime we spoke with qualified Olympia competition Iain Valliere on whether or not Ramy can be defeated. He thinks it’s a tough mountain to climb – but there is a slim margin to beat Ramy. In our latest GI Exclusive interview, Iain Valliere details the only two ways that Big Ramy can be defeated at the Mr. Olympia 2021.

In 2020, Big Ramy showcased the greatest physique of his career. For the first time ever, his conditioning matched his enormous size. This made him a powerhouse and nearly unstoppable. Returning champion Brandon Curry could not hold up – nor could seven time former Olympia champion Phil Heath. Ramy was fully realized. It earned him a spot on the short list of Olympia champions.
It’s been a near year since that epic victory. We are just under a week before the Mr. Olympia 2021. This is our first time to see Big Ramy on stage competing again. Traditionally, Big Ramy’s biggest weakness has been the consistency of his conditioning. One year he will be close to on point. The next he would be completely off point. Just because Ramy won a Mr. Olympia title doesn’t mean the consistency problem will be fixed.

That being said, Big Ramy’s impressive physique in 2020 might also signal he has learned what is needed to keep his conditioning consistent. We’ll soon find out this weekend. During our conversation with fellow Olympia competitor Iain Valliere – we asked his take on Big Ramy’s physique and how he could be potentially toppled from his throne. The way Valliere sees it, there are only two viable tactics for defeating Big Ramy.
The first is to beat him in size. If a competitor can show up with insane size and conditioning to at the very least match Big Ramy – then he can lose the title. The second tactic is to look at Ramy’s weakness and exploit them. This means that a bodybuilder would focus less on size and more on absolute superior conditioning and aesthetics. Iain Valliere thinks that no competitor is currently poised to succeed with the first tactic. This leaves only conditioning and aesthetics as the superior route to defeat Ramy.
“I think there’s two ways to beat Ramy,” Iain Valliere stated in our interview. He continued:
“It’s going to come down to either a guy with really really crazy shape like a Brandon or a Nathan but compiled with really good conditioning. Or it’s going to come down to someone bigger with better conditioning. I don’t see anyone being bigger than Ramy so I think the way to beat Ramy is with detail and shape. I think trying to be bigger than the biggest guy is insanity.”

Looking back at the 2020 Mr. Olympia, Iain Valliere saw Brandon Curry as the closest competitor to take down Big Ramy.
“I think someone like Brandon last year could have closed that gap if his conditioning was a little better. Because he has the shape, he has the symmetry, he has that silhouette of, like, a very very dominant bodybuilder with the bubbliness and flow and tiny waist. Where he was just a little subpar was his conditioning in comparison [to Big Ramy]”
Iain Valliere goes on to state that Brandon Curry is still a superb athlete and is only critiquing his physique in comparison to Big Ramy. In fact, Iain Vailliere even takes himself out of the equation – stating that he is not in the right place to beat someone like Ramy at this year’s competition.
So it seems, according to Iain Valliere, the Mr. Olympia 2021 title will teeter on two factors. How on point Big Ramy is with his conditioning and how on point a rival competitor can raise the bar to exploit Ramy’s weaknesses. It all hangs on the delicate blade of a knife.
