Former UFC Champion Tyron Woodley Will Fight Jake Paul

Former UFC Champion Tyron Woodley Will Fight Jake Paul

Will former UFC champ Tyron Woodley shut down the Jake Paul hype train?
It appears that Jake Paul is getting his wish as he agrees to do battle with former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley. This unlike the fights previous will provide a far more interesting storyline than any of Paul’s prior engagements.

It’s no secret that people find Jake Paul pretty detestable. After all the YouTube star is essentially a professional troll. But despite that description, he’s gone above and beyond the role of a usual troll and has decided to take his trash talk from the virtual world and into the boxing ring. He’s convinced former UFC fighter Ben Askren to do battle and it appears lightning is striking twice. This time around Paul will face off against former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley.
The Fight Is On!

This match will certainly be different than Paul’s bout with Askren. Unlike his teammate Askren, Tyron Woodley was known for knocking people into another dimension. The raw power in his hands is truly something to behold. He has faced some of the best strikers in the world and hurt them with his punches. Though he’ll be wearing boxing gloves and not the smaller four ounce gloves he’s more accustomed to, Woodley will still possess that incredible knockout power.

Too Much For The Social Media Star?
So has Jake Paul finally bit off more than he can chew? The jury is still out on that one. After all, Paul is calling out fighters who have either no great striking experience or who are at the end of their careers in a different combat sport. That said, Tyron Woodley isn’t the kind of fighter you can just handle with minimal striking experience. Woodley not only has power, but patience and intelligence that has seen him overcome the likes of kickboxing and Muay Thai champions. Woodley will treat this bout seriously and give Paul all he can handle and more.
Honestly, while he may be a troll, Jake Paul does possess skill. He may even have more skill than his older brother Logan Paul who is set to face Floyd Mayweather in just a couple of weeks. That said, Tyron Woodley is a whole other beast, one that he’s never faced before. Paul may have just hit off more than he can chew.
So what do you make of the bout between Jake Paul and Tyron Woodley?

Danny Hester: Chris Bumstead Won Olympia Due To Improvements But Not Perfection

Danny Hester: Chris Bumstead Won Olympia Due To Improvements But Not Perfection

Danny Hester believes that Chris Bumstead’s physique was very close to Breon Ansley – but it was his massive improvements that earned him the win.
Chris Bumstead vs Breon Ansley was one of the most hyped up battles of the Classic Physique Olympia 2020. Ultimately, Chris Bumstead solidified his status as champion with a second win. Surprisingly, Breon Ansley fell down to third place. But Danny Hester believes that Bumstead and Ansley’s physiques were actually very close in quality. What made the difference was Bumstead’s massive improvements since last year.
The same can be said of Terrence Ruffin, who slipped up into second ahead of Breon Ansley. These three competitors were neck and neck. It’s Danny Hester’s belief that comparisons to previous years and how much they each improved decided the ultimate placings. In our latest GI Exclusive interview, Danny Hester explains how judges consistently reward improvements – and that’s the main reason Chris Bumstead won Olympia 2020.

Danny Hester wants to make one thing clear during our latest interview segment. When a bodybuilder competes on stage, they are being not only compared to the other competitors but also their past self. Pro bodybuilding and judges cannot help but be somewhat subjective. Despite scores and a set of guidelines to follow – judging a physique will always be skewed by subjective opinion.
That’s why there are multiple judges on the panel instead of just one. To help bring in a consensus among multiple perspectives. Danny Hester also believes that comparisons to previous competitions also helps keep the judges guided. That it’s an unwritten guiding principle with scoring. If a bodybuilder shows incredible improvement from one competition to the next – the judges take notice. That affects the overall score and placing.

Danny Hester doesn’t give his personal opinion on who had the best physique at the Classic Physique Olympia 2020. But he does suggest that the physique quality was very close between Chris Bumstead and Breon Ansley.
“Now even with the improvements, was it enough for him [Chris Bumstead] to beat Breon? That’s a whole different story,” Danny Hester states in our interview. While not confirmed -this seems to imply that Hester doesn’t view Bumstead’s physique as breakaway superior from Ansley.

He does understand, and truly believes, that Chris Bumstead won purely on his vast improvements. Hester himself gives Bumstead credit. He admits that the amount of improvements in Bumstead’s physique from the Olympia 2019 to 2020 was incredible. It’s hard for any pro bodybuilder to get that kind of improvement in one year. Bumstead pulled it off. The judges noticed. That gave Bumstead the edge.
Danny Hester relates this to his experience competing. He recalls a competition he competed in just three weeks before winning the Classic Olympia. He placed third due to feeling slightly sick on the night of the show. He was frustrated. So he worked extra hard in the final three weeks leading up to Olympia.
Ultimately, he won the Classic Physique Olympia. He thinks this is partially due to the extra effort he put in after feeling defeated. But he also thinks it’s because some of the same judges were at the earlier show and also judging at Olympia. They saw his improvements. They directly noticed how he changed. That helped him get an edge and win that year.

So what does that mean for Chris Bumstead going into 2021? There are always improvements to be made – but can he surprise with such vast improvements like the year before? And if he can’t will it be enough for him to stay on top? Only time will tell. Perhaps Breon Ansley will be the one to bring in improvements and get the edge.

Taken to School: Larry Wheels is Defeated by Schoolboy in Arm Wrestling Match

Taken to School: Larry Wheels is Defeated by Schoolboy in Arm Wrestling Match

Larry Wheels battles Schoolboy in recent arm wrestling super match.
The much anticipated arm wrestling super match between Larry Wheels and Schoolboy saw the strength athlete take a loss. The two have battled in the past, Larry being defeated in their first meeting. Since then the strength athlete prepped for a rematch. However it would prove to be futile.

A professional arm wrestling for some time now, Aleksandr “Schoolboy” Beziazykov has proven to be a force to be reckoned with. Defeating other grown men left and right in arm wrestling, Schoolboy has cemented himself as one of the best arm wrestlers on the circuit. With a ton of room for growth, Schoolboy is sure to give many competitors all they can handle.
Larry Wheels and Schoolboy faced off on May 28, the both of them poised to prove who was the superior arm wrestler. Both competitors agreed to a right arm battle for the event. While Larry Wheels showcased some great strength, Schoolboy still proved to be too much for the Strength Wars star.

While Larry Wheels may have lost the official match, apparently he and Schoolboy had another match behind the scenes. This one took place before the event and both agreed to use their left hands. According to reports, Larry Wheels won the matches, showing that he still has some considerable strength.

That said, it’s all about the official record. From what we could see, Schoolboy was able to assert himself as the better man in arm wrestling. Larry Wheels certainly has proven himself to be one of the most adventurous strength athletes in the game today. That said, no one can be the absolute best at everything. But Larry showed that he has the kind of strength that can translate well over to many different arenas.
The Full Match
Larry Wheels took it upon himself to post video of the match on his YouTube channel. While it was clear that though Schoolboy was superior, Larry Wheels still showed some impressive ability for a sport that isn’t his forte. Check out the match here.
What do you think should be the next challenge for Larry Wheels?

IFBB California Pro 2021 Results

IFBB California Pro 2021 Results

Who became champion at the IFBB California Pro 2021?
And just like that, in a flash, the pro bodybuilding season has kicked into full gear. This weekend held the IFBB California Pro 2021. It’s the third major IFBB Pro show to be held in May alone. Finally the sport of bodybuilding is starting to feel normal again. And with that – you can read on to get a breakdown of the California Pro 2021 results.
Two notable competitors going into this competition were Hassan Mostafa and Mohamed El Amem. Both of these competitors have already stepped on stage previously this month. Mostafa ended up placing 3rd at the New York Pro 2012. Mohamed competed in both the Indy Pro 2021 and the New York Pro. He placed 2nd at the Indy and 5th at the NY Pro. It’s clear these two competitors are hungry to earn a Mr. Olympia qualification.

But the clear highlight of the night was Patrick Moore. A pro competitor who has been hyped as “The Future” since he won the California Pro in 2019. Since then he has had a bumpy road placing 13th at the Arnold Classic and ultimately taking an extended offseason. He now claims to be ready for the stage again – and the California Pro 2021 was his target. Was he able to reclaim his glory from two years ago?
Compared to the New York Pro and Indy Pro – the California Pro was a relatively smaller affair. Not in terms of talent but in terms of divisions. The Cali Pro only featured the Men’s Open division. The winner of the division received qualification to the Mr. Olympia 2021 set to be held later in October.
The official IFBB California Pro 2020 results have finally arrived. You can check them out below.

Dusty Hanshaw Has Been Hospitalized and is Fighting For His Life

Dusty Hanshaw Has Been Hospitalized and is Fighting For His Life

Dusty Hanshaw is fighting for his life.
Some sad news to report as bodybuilding veteran Dusty Hanshaw is reportedly fighting for his life. A GoFundMe has been started by his mother in hopes of helping with the medical bills.

In a freak accident it appears that Dust Hanshaw is fighting to survive. While eating steak, a piece of the meat got stuck in his esophagus, obstructing his breathing. He was eventually able to get it down but it appears that he obstructed his esophagus in doing so.
From Bad to Worse
Dante Trudel, a close friend of Hanshaw, stated that the bodybuilder was coughing up blood after the incident. Hanshaw is now in the hospital due to the incident.
Via GoFundMe:

Hi this is Dante Trudel, I am writing this on behalf of Dusty’s mom Julie, his family, his close friends and honestly to all of you. Why? Because I asked to do it, its that important to me. I am going to get right to the point. On the 13th of May almost two weeks ago, Dusty was eating steak and a piece got lodged in his esophagus and he started choking badly.
After a struggle he finally got it down, but something was definitely wrong. Sometime later he started to cough up blood, so much so that he went to the hospital as he knew something was not right. At the hospital things quickly snowballed out of control….and it looks like he suffered an esophageal rupture. They had to utilize a balloon in his esophagus to stop the massive bleed and everything went into a tailspin.
There was a tremendous amount of blood from this injury and one thing led to another with the doctors having to sedate him and put a feeding tube in. Over the first 48 hours Dusty not only developed pneumonia but also a serious staph infection. It has been a very trying time and they have been unable to bring him out of sedation because of all these dire events happening at once.
He has been under sedation for the last two weeks and dependent on the vent to breath. They have been trying to bring him out from sedation but at this time, again, he is not able to breath on his own. So he is still on paralytics, the feeding tube and the vent. It is going to be a long process of recovery.”

Brad Rowe Sends His Support

Brad Rowe who himself is currently in the hospital lent his support to Dusty Hanshaw and his family and friends.

This is all truly sad news. To think such a freak occurrence would befall Dusty Hanshaw. But if one thing is certain, anything can happen at any time so exercising caution is always a must. It’s unfortunate Hanshaw and his family find themselves in this current position.

Lou Ferrigno Fixes Hearing With Implant: Calls It “Life Changing”

Lou Ferrigno Fixes Hearing With Implant: Calls It “Life Changing”

Lou Ferrigno can hear like never before due to new hearing aid implant.
Lou Ferrigno is most known for two things. He was an iconic bodybuilder and star in Pumping Iron. He was also the Incredible Hulk on television for many years. It is also well documented that Ferrigno has suffered hearing loss since a young age. It’s partially the reason for his now iconic cadence of speaking. Now at 69 years old, he’s starting to hear like never before due to a specialized implant. In our latest GI Exclusive interview, Lou Ferrigno details his new hearing implant and what it was like to be a pro bodybuilder with severe hearing loss.
The world may know Lou Ferrigno as the original Incredible Hulk. But the bodybuilding world also remembers him as a legendary bodybuilder and star of the iconic film Pumping Iron. What some might not know as well is that Ferrigno also suffers from hearing loss. Since a young age, Ferrigno had lost 75% of his hearing. Due to this, he relied on a hearing aid for most of his life.

Technology changes at an alarming pace. And now Lou Ferrigno is experiencing the world of hearing in a whole new light due to a cochlear implant. The implant, over time, has allowed him to hear without the use of a traditional hearing aid. More importantly, it has also allowed him to hear on a level he had never experienced in his life.

“Over the age of 65, one out of three people were having hearing loss,” Lou Ferrigno states in our interview. He goes on:
“There are some bodybuilders out there who have had hearing loss. But the reason why I’m talking about this is because I’m going to give a lot of people hope. That this is not a dreadful thing. It’s a very positive experience because the surgery is really minor. Especially if they can have a life changing experience. Especially even now I heard different people. I can appreciate hearing people talk. Hearing the ‘S’ sound. The final consonant… People would say I have a slight lisp to my speech but now I’m overcoming that because of the cochlear implant.”

Lou Ferrigno goes on to detail what his life was like growing up with limited hearing. How he was bullied due to his massive hearing aids. That bullying, in part, was why Ferrigno eventually turned to bodybuilding. He wanted to prove he was strong in the face of bullies.
He also goes into detail about what training was like as a bodybuilder with limited hearing. Due to the intensity of his workouts, he wouldn’t wear a hearing aid during training. This made it harder for him to full engage in the social experience of the gym. He even admits that there have been times gym patrons thought he was being rude and ignoring them. But in reality, he couldn’t hear them. He relied mostly on reading lips in the gym.
Now all of that has changed. Lou Ferrigno will be able to full hear in the gym. Every clank of the weights and grunt of lifters. It’s an entirely new experience. As he stated in the quote above. It was not only a life changing experience for him – but he hopes to spread the word for others so they can have that life changing experience as well.
You can watch Lou Ferrigno go into full detail about his hearing loss and new implant in our latest GI Exclusive interview segment above!

Brad Rowe Hospitalized With Intestinal Obstruction

Brad Rowe Hospitalized With Intestinal Obstruction

Brad Rowe has been hospitalized.
It appears that Brad Rowe is facing some tough adversity. The bodybuilder recently reported that he’s been hospitalized with intestinal obstruction. It has proven to be a pretty rough week for the bodybuilding veteran indeed.

We often speak on injuries being a major issue for athletes. But internal health is something else many don’t consider until there’s signs of an issue. Unfortunately Brad Rowe has fallen pray to a nasty condition that has rendered him bedridden.
But besides the intestinal problems it appears that Brad Rowe is also facing other issues as well. The bodybuilder also reported that he’s suffering from knee issues as well. After spending a week in the hospital it’s clear that Rowe is at his wits end.
In the Instagram post below, Brad Rowe gives the full details on his current situation.
Its been one of those weeks!
Intestinal obstruction forced me to come to the ER this morning. They inserted a tube in my nose to my stomach to suction out in hopes the blockage releases. I may need surgery if it doesn’t or the surgeon feels there is a mechanical issue which caused the first obstruction last Thursday then this one that started to form yesterday. I’m here till late Friday night minimum they told me ?‍♂️
Monday I had an MRI on my knee and there is an area that isn’t healing efficiently. I have a nerve that is causing sharp shooting pain in that same area. We are hoping that after seeing a nerve specialist to freeze the nerve that there will be less inflammatory responses and allow the tissue to heal properly. If not I go under the knife to clean out some of the unhealthy tissue.
Add onto all that a few personal and professional roadblocks/challenges and it’s been an extremely trying week. But just keep my head down and take it moment by moment and I’ll get through it all like I always do and learn some things in the process.
I truly appreciate everyone that has reached out ? sorry if I’m not getting back to everyone but the messages are seen and appreciated!

This is certainly a tough break for Brad Rowe as he hints at both professional and physical hardships making his life a living hell at the moment. Hopefully he’ll get some good news and makes a full recovery.

Samir Bannout: Some Beauty Is Lost When Bodybuilders Become Super Massive

Samir Bannout: Some Beauty Is Lost When Bodybuilders Become Super Massive

Samir Bannout comments on whether or not the modern era of bodybuilding has declined.
Between the past five to ten years, there has been a growing conversation about the quality of modern bodybuilding. While it’s often common to hold the past in higher regard – it seems that fans have become more vocal about bodybuilding physiques declining in quality even compared to the 90s. Alternatively, there are those who believe we are now at the beginning of an upswing after a slight decline. In our latest GI Exclusive interview, Samir Bannout shares his thoughts on modern bodybuilding, super mass monsters, and wether there has been a decline in quality.
Samir Bannout is a diplomatic man. He’s not someone to cast blame on specific people. He’s also not one to make bold statements without all of the facts. So when it comes to something subjective like the quality of bodybuilding physiques – he’s careful with his answer.

During our video interview, we asked if Samir Bannout considers bodybuilding an extreme sport. More specifically, if bodybuilding is more extreme today than it was during his era of competing. This conversation evolved into discussion of the quality of physiques in bodybuilding. Has the increased effort for bigger size led to lower quality physiques overall?
Samir Bannout makes a point first and foremost to highlight that pro bodybuilders today are extremely talented. They work hard, they put in the work, and their ambitions are respectable. So Bannout purposefully avoids saying that physiques have declined. Instead, he comments that certain weak points are becoming more common. He assumes this is likely due to focusing more on size.
[embedded content]
Check out our GI Exclusive segment with Samir Bannout above!
Instead of talking about increase or decrease in quality, Samir Bannout talks about beauty in the sport. Again, this is a subjective term. But Bannout believes that some of the beauty has left the sport. It’s become more favored towards blocky and bulky mass monster physiques. To use an alternate word from beauty, it seems that Bannout is talking about aesthetic and conditioning.

Samir Bannout uses two examples. He points out Frank Zane, who has won multiple Mr. Olympia competitions. He also points out Phil Heath – a man who has seven Olympia titles under his belt.
Bannout comments that Frank Zane was no where near the largest bodybuilder even during his own era. Yet his beauty, aesthetics, and conditioning were so on point that he became a champion. Fast forward to Phil Heath. Bannout believes his first four victories were flawless. Shortly after that, criticism of his gut came to the forefront. Bannout believes this was due to Phil starting to chase more size.
“I think he [Phil Heath] lost his beauty once he started to get super massive,” Samir Bannout states in our interview. He continues:
“Sometimes it’s not about size… Same thing with Flex Wheeler. You know, Flex, it was immanent that he’d win the Olympia. Seriously… It’s a shame that if Flex, if he slowed down a little bit he would have been Olympia no doubt.”
Samir Bannout doesn’t want to demonize massive size. He thinks that massive size can work so long as the beauty remains. He thinks that some bodybuilders are genetically predisposed to handle massive size while maintaining tighter aesthetics and conditioning. He uses Ronnie Coleman’s earlier Olympia victories as an example. Unfortunately, Bannout also thinks that too many bodybuilders fall victim to chasing size and beauty is lost as a result.
