Powerlifter Serena Abweh Crushes 365-lb (165.6-kg) Raw Deadlift PR In Training
Serena Abweh has amassed a large following on social media during the past few years for her incredible transformation and mind-blowing feats of strength. Being an elite athlete, Serena is proficient in multiple lifts, but her deadlift prowess is on a level of its own. Although she has shared many heavy lifts during her powerlifting career, Serena recently announced that she locked out her heaviest deadlift ever and shared the video on Instagram. In the post, Serena is seen deadlifting a massive 365 pounds (165.6 kilograms) for a new PR (Personal Record).
Serena Abweh has perfected the sumo stance for deadlifts, so she utilized it to set her new 365-pound (165.6-kilogram) deadlift PR. Seeing how her PR was also raw, she was only able to use a lifting belt and some chalk. So, having no lifting straps to aid her, Serena grabbed the barbell with a mixed grip.
What makes Serena Abweh’s deadlift even more impressive is her bodyweight, since she weighed 105 pounds (47.6 kilograms) during the recent PR. This makes the lift 3.48x heavier than her bodyweight, which is beyond mind-blowing.

“We were supposed to go for the world record deadlift together and now I’m more motivated than ever to achieve it. Dis for you Gbear”
This is not the first time that Serena Abweh has encountered major setbacks in her life, since she has battled Anorexia in the past. However, she found a way to push through it with the help of powerlifting, and now serves as a motivation for thousands of people around the world.

As Serena Abweh states in her Instagram post, she is going after the World Record with more motivation than ever. So, her 365-pound (165.6-kilogram) deadlift PR is just the start of what we will be seeing from Serena in the future. The record will certainly require a great deal of hard work, but Serena is certainly capable of achieving it. Her life has been filled with overcoming the impossible, and the record would just be another achievement.

Sophia Ellis (76KG) Sets 245-kg (540.1-lb) Deadlift European and British Records at 2023 IPF World Classic Championships
The 76-kilogram weight class of the 2023 IPF World Classic Open Powerlifting Championships was one of the most heavily contested in the entire competition. Multiple elite women took part in this weight class, so anyone who managed to outperform others deserves great praise. Notably, Sophia Ellis crushed everyone on the deadlifts, setting new European and British Records with a lift of 245 kilograms (540.1 pounds).
There was no doubt about the validity of Sophia Ellis’ 245-kilogram (540.1-pound) record breaking deadlift since she made sure that every detail of her technique was perfect. Moreover, Sophia believed that there was more left in the tank because of the ease with which the deadlift moved.
“So pleased with how this weight moved and so psyched to know there is more there. 250kg pending ⏳”
Both records were in the possession of Sophia Ellis beforehand as well, but the more notable one, the EPF European Record, was set at the 2022 EPF European Classic Powerlifting Championships. At that competition, Sophia locked out 240.5 kilograms (530.2 pounds), but she has now lifted 4.5 kilograms (9.9 pounds) more.

Sophia Ellis’ Full Performance
Sophia Ellis weighed in at 74.7 kilograms (164.7 pounds) for the 2023 IPF World Championships, making the record-breaking deadlift 3.3x her bodyweight. She also found success in other events, setting new competition PRs in Squat and Total. Moreover, her Total turned out to be a British Record as well.
Sophia Ellis performed exactly as she envisioned, successfully completing all nine of her attempts. She ended up taking fourth place overall, just short of the podium.

Larry Wheels Crushes 500-Lb Paused Bench Press with Motivation from CT Fletcher
Powerlifting sensation Larry Wheels is known to wear many hats. Although he started his journey in powerlifting, he also has experience competing in other sports. In a recent Instagram post, Wheels crushed a massive set of 500-lb bench press with motivation from powerlifting legend CT Fletcher.
Larry Wheels first rose to prominence for his insane feats of strength in powerlifting. He initially set the World Record on the squat, bench, and deadlift at 2,275 pounds total without wraps in the 275-lb weight category, but Zac Meyers broke it earlier this month. Besides his strength, Wheels stood out from his competition with an aesthetic and shredded physique. He also tested the waters in competitive bodybuilding and emerged victorious in his debut at the NPC Gold Coast Muscle Classic in Feb. 2018.
In Aug. 2022, Wheels decided to quit using PEDs (performance-enhancing drugs) after getting injured in contest prep. He indicated that his plans were to get on TRT (testosterone replacement therapy) to accommodate for the damage from his near-decade-long use of steroids.
Earlier this year, Wheels revealed he’d switch to bodybuilding as a Classic Physique competitor. Given his muscle mass, he’s confident he could hold his own in the division while staying healthy as opposed to battling in the Men’s Open. Following the 2023 Arnold Classic, Wheels sharpened his posing skills with Open standout William Bonac in a collaborative session with rising sensation Andrew Jacked.
Wheels left the fans in awe of his shredded physique update in preparation for his highly-anticipated Classic Physique debut three months ago. While he’s not targeting Mr. Olympia just yet, he believes he has the right skills to challenge the likes of four-time Olympia champion Chris Bumstead.
Larry Wheels showed off his unreal biceps peak in a physique update posing en route to his Classic Physique debut last month. He boasted a ripped build while performing two poses. Then, he smoked 150-lb incline dumbbell shoulder presses and provided another stellar physique update.
Larry Wheels Crushes 500lbs Bench Press with Motivation from CT Fletcher
In a recent Instagram post, Larry Wheels crushed a heavy 500-pound bench press with CT Fletcher by his side motivating him through the slow reps.
CT Fletcher is an inspiring figure in the fitness community who’s celebrated for his perseverance and never-give-up attitude. Despite facing serious health challenges, the former powerlifter continues on strong.
“500 lbs for an eternity of a pause by @c.t.ali.fletcher,” wrote Wheels.
Fletcher hinted at a collaboration video with Wheels dropping soon.
Larry Wheels pulled off a 405-lb (183.7-kg) bench press for 22 reps three weeks ago. He followed up by smashing a 150-lb incline dumbbell bench press for 25 reps. He also detailed his focus on developing fullness in his chest.
Wheels partnered with Joe Linder, popularly known as Joesthetics, to enhance his posing abilities a few days ago. He later teamed up with Odd Haugen to work on his grip strength where he was flabbergasted by the 73-year-old’s power.

Wheels hasn’t lost his outlandish strength despite preparing for bodybuilding. He remains dedicated in his journey to the Classic Physique division.

Natalie Laalaai (+84KG) Sets a 268-kg (690.8-lb) Deadlift World Record at 2023 IPF World Classic Open Powerlifting Championships
The 2023 IPF World Classic Open Powerlifting Championships were definitely a record-breaking event, with historic lifts being displayed on each day of the competition. One of those came from Natalie Laalaai, who was representing Australia in the raw +84-kilogram weight class. Despite the competitiveness of her weight class, Natalie emerged as the greatest deadlifter by a mile, but that was not surprising since she also set a new 268-kilogram (690.8-pound) Raw Deadlift IPF World Record.
The previous record stood at 257.5 kilograms (567.7 pounds) and was in possession of Sarah Brenner who set it at the 2019 NAPF Pan-American Powerlifting Championships. Sarah gracefully congratulated Natalie Laalaai on her achievement with a comment on Instagram.
“I’ve held that record since 2019, it’s yours now. Congrats on an amazing pull! ?”
So, Natalie Laalaai broke the World Record on her first attempt at 258 kilograms (568.8 pounds) and had two more attempts to advance it. Natalie’s second deadlift of 268 kilograms (690.8 pounds) marked an improved World Record, but also turned out to be her max. She did try to lift 275 kilograms (607.4 pounds) on her third and final attempt, but was unsuccessful.

Natalie Laalaai’s Full Performance
Natalie Laalaai was unable to reach a podium spot, as her Total of 640.5 kilograms (1,412.1 pounds) was enough for a fifth-place finish. However, she did successfully complete eight out of her nine attempts, only missing her final deadlift. This resulted in some new Competition PRs and a World Record Deadlift.

Brittany Schlater (+84KG) Sets 693.5-kg (1,528.9-lb) Total World Record at 2023 IPF World Classic Powerlifting Championships
The +84-kilogram weight class in the women’s division was one of the most unpredictable in the entirety of the 2023 IPF World Classic Open Powerlifting Championships. The reason for this was because four incredible competitors battled against each other, but Brittany Schlater was the one who walked away with the title. However, the gold medal was not the only thing she brought home, as she also set a new raw Total IPF World Record of 693.5 kilograms (1,528.9 pounds).
This was Brittany Schlater’s second time winning the IPF title, as she did the same in 2021. However, she was unable to retain it in 2022 when Bonica Brown claimed it. So, this year Brittany managed to beat Bonica and take her title.
In addition, Bonica Brown was the previous +84KG IPF Raw Total World Record holder, having lifted 680 kilograms (1,499.1 pounds) at the 2023 IPF Sheffield Powerlifting Championships. So, apart from stripping Bonica of her title, Brittany Schlater also broke her World Record by 13.5 kilograms (29.8 pounds).

Brittany Schlater’s Full Performance
Brittany Schlater had a perfect performance with all nine successful attempts and new competition PRs in all events. This enabled her to outperform Sonita Muluh, who finished in second place and set a new IPF Squat World Record. However, it all came down to Brittany’s final deadlift attempt, as she had to lock it out in order to win the title. Luckily for her, she lifted 257.5 kilograms (567.7 pounds) with ease.

Brittany Schlater has now taken part in 19 sanctioned competitions during her seven years of doing the sport professionally. She won 17 of them, but her most recent victory at the 2023 IPF Worlds was one of the most special ones. Leading up to the competition Brittany got sick. On the morning of the competition, Brittany woke up feeling unwell at 4:30 AM and broke down in tears. However, she calmed down later on and set a new world record in the process.

73-Year-Old Strongman Legend Beats Larry Wheels In Grip Strength: “Honestly, Blown Away”
Larry Wheels is a freak in all aspects, but he has a particularly strong grip now that he has been arm wrestling for three years. However, even he could not outperform the “old man strength” phenomenon. Still, there is more to the story than that, as the guy Larry Wheels went against in grip strength was none other than the legendary 73-year-old Strongman Odd Haugen. While Odd does not specialize in arm wrestling, his grip strength is out of this world. So, Larry and Odd partnered up for a grip training session with a few custom implements.
Odd Haugen is a very big name in the Strongman world, but his grip strength is still unfathomable. He is nicknamed “The Visegrip Viking” for his remarkable abilities, which have only gotten better as he aged. So, even a superhuman athlete like Larry Wheels could not match Odd’s grip strength, despite being decades younger than him.

Larry Wheels Takes On Odd Haugen’s Grip
Larry Wheel first revealed what the concept of the videos is and initiated a short conversation with Odd Haugen. He then revealed that the 73-year-old Norwegian man has been training for the past six decades. However, he only focused on grip training when he retired from Strongman.
Test One — Saxon Bar Deadlift
The pair then began their first exercise, and it was the Saxon Bar deadlift. This barbell is made to look like a block, so it is impossible to pick it up in any other way except with a pinch grip. Although both men have previously done this exercise, Odd is much more experienced, which is why he gave Larry some tips.
Larry Wheels ended up lifting 120 kilograms (264.5 pounds), heavier than ever before. He then attempted to lift 125 kilograms (275.5 pounds), but the bar slipped from his hands before he managed to pick it up. So, that was his grip strength limit on this exercise. On the other hand, Odd Haugen lifted 125 kilograms (275.5 pounds), but could not go heavier.
“That inspires me, because there is going to be a point in my career when I say, okay, no longer do I feel like a Superhero, I have to pivot… I love two things, arm wrestling and grip training, and I can do that in my 70s,” stated Larry.
Test Two — Circus Dumbbell
The second grip test of the day was the Circus Dumbbell, which often appears in Strongman competitions. However, the Strongmen use two hands to pick up the dumbbell to their shoulder and overhead press it. Instead, Odd Haugen and Larry Wheels tried to pick up an 81.7-kilogram (180-pound) Circus Dumbbell with one arm.
“Last time I was here, Martins (Licis) and I tried it. I was able to do it, Martins was not… Even Brian Shaw tried it and he couldn’t do it,” said Haugen before they commenced the exercise.
Larry Wheels first tried to pick up a 78-kilogram (172-pound) Thomas Inch Dumbbell, but was not able to do it. It was not the case that it was too heavy, but the 2 ⅜” handle was too much for his grip strength. On the other hand, Odd easily picked it up.
Consequently, Larry Wheels was also unable to pick up an even heavier Circus Dumbbell with a thicker handle. However, the 3-inch handle did not stop Odd Haugen who once again displayed his mind blowing grip strength.
“What a Man. Incredible,” said a visibly impressed Larry Wheels.
Test Three — Rollin Thunder
The final test of the grip challenge was the Rolling Thunder. This is basically an attachment for a plated loaded platform. So, with a thick and rolling handle, this piece of equipment is a true challenge for anyone.
For reference, many incredible Strongman athletes like Martins Licis, and arm wrestling athletes like Ermes and Vitaly Laletin, attempted this exercise, and they all lingered around 90 to 100 kilograms (198.4 to 220.5 pounds). Despite this, a 73-year-old Odd Haugen lifted 90 kilograms (198.4 pounds) with both arms consecutively. He could have gone heavier, but chose to stop.
Larry Wheels wanted to try out Odd Haugen in arm wrestling. Due to better technique and experience in the sport, Larry outperformed Odd, but did not push the limits in order to avoid injuries.
“He had me beat on every move we did today. I think the longer we went on, the weaker I was going to get. It was really cool to witness that. Honestly, blown away. Huge inspiration for the next generation to see that you can be 73-years-old and stronger than a World Record powerlifter,” said Larry to wrap up the YouTube video.

It was incredible to see a man stepping into his eighth decade of life outperform one of the strongest people alive. So, Odd Haugen once again proved that anything is possible, as he has done many times throughout his Strongman career. This also cements his status as an iconic athlete, especially since it takes a lot to impress Larry Wheels.

Phillip Herndon Becomes The Lightest Person To Squat 1,000-lb With Knee Wraps In a Competition
Determining strength has always been a difficult topic since all athletes vary in size. So, to solve the issue, people invented weight classes, grouping people of approximate size together. Still, it is always more impressive when a lighter athlete lifts massive weights. Most recently, Phillip Herndon has achieved a lift that makes him one of the greatest powerlifters ever. This is because he just became the lightest person to squat 1,000 pounds with knee wraps.
Phillip Herndon competed at the 2023 IPA Strength Spectacular, which took place on June 25th in Pennsylvania, and made history. Weighing in at only 263.3 pounds, Phillip squatted 1,000 pounds using only a pair of knee wraps, a lifting belt, and wrist wraps. Thus, he became the lightest person to achieve this milestone, with the lift coming out to 3.8x his bodyweight.
“1000lb squat lightest person(263.3lbs) to do it in wraps.
3 week prep for this meet i was surprised this even happened.”

Phillip Herndon was placed in the 275-pound weight class due to his bodyweight of 263.3 pounds. However, he did not set a World Record since that belongs to Zahir Khudayarov, who squatted 1,058.2 pounds at the 2017 FPO WABDL World Cup & SM penkkipunnerrus/maastanosto.
However, Zahir Khudayarov weighed 273.1 pounds at the time of his record-setting performance. So, Zahir was the lightest man to squat 1,000 pounds, until Phillip Herndon achieved the milestone with 10 pounds less bodyweight.
After claiming the new achievement, Phillip Herndon went on to win the competition and claim the prize of $2,500. As per Phillip, his full performance was as follows:
Squat: 1,000 pounds (453.6 kilograms) — Competition PR
Bench Press: 500 pounds (226.8 kilograms)
Deadlift: 800 pounds (362.9 kilograms)
Total: 2,300 pounds (1,043.3 kilograms) — Competition PR
The 2023 IPA Strength Spectacular was Phillip Herndon’s 42nd-sanctioned appearance and his 28th victory. However, the most notable fact about this competition was that Phillip Herndon came in with just three weeks of preparation. So, he still has much more room to improve.

Phillip Herndon will now continue preparing for his next appearance, which will take place in 19 weeks. So, he plans on making some more history at the 2023 WRPF American Pro, which is also one of the biggest competitions of the season. In addition, since he was able to become the lightest person to squat 1,000 pounds with only three weeks of preparation, Phillip hopes to accomplish even more with five months to prepare.

Timothy Monigatti (74KG) Sets 283.5-kg (625-lb) Squat World Record At 2023 IPF World Classic Powerlifting Championships
The 74-kilogram weight class at the 2023 IPF World Classic Open Powerlifting Championships was sensational. While many cheered for Taylor Atwood, who came back to fight for his third IPF World Title, two other athletes put up incredible performances to outperform him. One of those was Timothy Monigatti from New Zealand, who also set a huge new 283.5-kilogram (625-pound) Squat IPF World Record.
Timothy Monigatti opened his squat session with a smooth 267.5-kilogram (589.7-pound) lift before moving up to 277.5 kilograms (611.8 pounds) for his second attempt. Seeing that this attempt was also comfortable for Timothy, he decided to load up an IPF World Record for his third attempt.
After Timothy Monigattie successfully completed his third squat attempt, he officially claimed the IPF World Record. So, not only did he place higher than Atwood, but Timothy also broke Taylor’s Record of 283 kilograms (623.9 pounds), which he set at the 2019 IPF World Classic Powerlifting Championships.

Timothy Monigatti’s Full Performance
Having set a Squat World Record, Timothy Monigatti was on track to win the 74-kilogram weight class at the 2023 IPF World Championships. However, he ended up tying with Carl Johansson, as both men finished with a Total of 778 kilograms (1,715.2 pounds).
Only one man could be crowned champion, so a tiebreaker was put in place. Having the same Total, it came down to which man had the lower bodyweight. Unfortunately for Timothy Monigatti, Carl weighed in 0.2 kilograms (0.4 pounds) lighter and won the 74-kilogram weight class.

Timothy Monigatti, now 27 years old, has been competing since he was a teenager, appearing in his first professional contest in 2015. Since then, he has taken part in 26 sanctioned competitions, frequently altering between the 74-kilogram and 83-kilogram weight classes. He’s been equally successful in both, winning a total of 21 competitions over the years.
Although Timothy Monigatti’s second-place finish is impressive, he acknowledged that “there is more to come in the future”. With a new World Record under his belt, Timothy sees that nothing is impossible. So, after a near miss this year, Timothy will look to conquer the IPF and become the World Champion next year.

Karlina Tongotea (76KG) Sets 225.5-kg (497.1-lb) Squat World Record at 2023 IPF World Classic Powerlifting Championships
The 2023 IPF World Classic Open Powerlifting Championships not only witnessed an array of record-breaking moments but also introduced us to some remarkable new talents in the powerlifting arena. One of those was Karlina Tongotea from New Zealand, who competed in the raw 76-kilogram weight class. Despite making her debut in one of the biggest competitions currently, Karlina outperformed some huge names to win the title. In addition, she also set a Squat IPF World Record.
Going into the competition, last year’s champion ,Jessica Buettner, and Agata Sitko were the favorites for many fans. However, Karlina Tongotea put up a perfect performance to break through to the top spot, even putting a cherry on top with a World Record.
Karlina Tongotea set a new IPF World Record with a 225.5-kilogram (497.1-pound) squat that she achieved on her third attempt. This was heavier than the previous World Record, which was also in her possession, by 2 kilograms (4.4 pounds). Karlina set the old record just a few months ago by squatting 223.5 kilograms (492.7 pounds) at 2023 IPF Sheffield Powerlifting Championships.

Karlina Tongotea’s Full Performance
Karlina Tongotea weighed in at 75.65 kilograms (166.8 pounds) for the 2023 IPF Worlds, which was obviously the perfect bodyweight for her. She completed all nine attempts successfully, which was a necessity for her since her rivals could have taken the lead if she messed up at any point. However, Karlina gave credit to those who pushed her to the limit during the competition.

Karlina Tongotea has taken part in 16 sanctioned powerlifting competitions so far and won 12 of them. So far, her greatest success has been at the 2023 IPF Worlds, where she won the gold medal and set a new world record. However, Karlina is also accomplished in other areas of life, as she is a family doctor by profession. She has found a perfect balance, which enables her to perform well in both powerlifting and being a doctor.
