Powerlifter Russel Orhii Crushes 212.5-kg (468.4-lb) Bench Press PR In Prep For a Return To The IPF

Russel Orhii is easily one of the greatest powerlifters ever in the 83-kilogram weight class, having won numerous titles across the years. Therefore, it was somewhat surprising that he had not been too active this year in terms of competitions. However, his training sessions were still going strong, and he looks stronger than ever. This is evident by Russel’s numerous recent feats of strength, most notably the new 212.5-kilogram (468.4-pound) Bench Press PR.
Russel Orhii only used wrist wraps to set a 212.5-kilogram (468.4-pound) bench press PR, making it raw. However, Russel had to struggle a lot in order to set this PR, but pushing himself to his limits will only result in even more improvement. Regardless of the grind, Russel still maintained perfect technique, proving why he is one of the greatest powerlifters in the world.

Russel Orhii’s Comeback To The IPF
The context is incredibly important in this story, since Russel Orhii was once a part of the IPF, but has been a USAPL lifter for the past few years. These two powerlifting federations were once connected, but split up after some disagreements. After the split, the athletes had to choose one federation to compete in exclusively.
Russel Orhii evaluated the situation after the split and opted for the USAPL, which no longer seems like the correct option to him. He has now officially left USAPL and revealed exactly why in a recent YouTube video.
“I’m leaving the USAPL. The reason why I am leaving the USAPL is because I want to go back to being a World Champion Powerlifter…
I decided to stay with the USAPL (in 2021), thinking that it would allow me to grow the business of the better brand…
As I have done that, the IPF has taken bigger strides than the USAPL, with just the little things that kind of add to what it means to be a powerlifter.”
Russel Orhii also stated that the IPF will have more big competitions for him, as he was previously only attracted to the USAPL Nationals. Speaking of which, he wanted to claim his sixth USAPL National title later this year, but had to withdraw and turn his attention to the IPF as soon as possible.
While USAPL and IPF were together, the athletes from the USA qualified for the World Championships through the USAPL Nationals. However, due to their split, IPF was forced to set up an affiliate, Powerlifting America (AMP), which now puts on their Nationals as a way to qualify.
“If I want to go to the IPF, I have to serve a six month suspension, and that starts whenever I reinstate myself. So, if I were to compete in the USAPL Nationals, I would then start my suspension. That would have made me eligible to compete in April of 2024. By that time, the AMP Nationals (Qualifier for 2024 IPF Worlds) would have already happened.”
One unusual side effect of Russel Orhii’s situation is that he will end 2023 without making a single appearance in a sanctioned competition. In the past eight years, this has only been the case in 2020.
Regardless, we will soon get to see him compete in the 2024 Powerlifting America (AMP) Nationals, IPF World Championships, and a bit later on, the IPF World Games and IPF Sheffield as well.

Russel Orhii is already a 2x IPF World Champion (2019 & 2021), but his main goal now will be reclaiming his title in 2024. He also stated that he will remain in the 83-kilogram weight class for the foreseeable future, despite some outside speculations that he is moving to the 90-kilogram weight class. So, he is now taking a very big step, but it seems correct, as IPF is currently ruling the drug-tested powerlifting scene.

Strongwoman Inez Carrasquillo Locks Out 550-lb (249.5-kg) Deadlift PR In Training

The Strongwoman sport is thriving like never before, thanks to the incredible talent and skill displayed by numerous awe-inspiring women. It is impossible to pick out a single greatest Strongwoman currently, but Inez Carrasquillo is definitely in contention for that title. This athlete competing under the flag of Costa Rica sits at or near the top of leaderboards for all events, making her one of the most complete athletes overall. However, Inez obviously has something big in the woodwork since she has just revealed a new personal record in an event which is not usually the greatest for her — the deadlift. During a recent training session, Inez loaded 550 pounds (249.5 kilograms) and deadlifted it successfully for a new PR.
Inez Carrasquillo has long waited for this deadlift PR, as her previous one came around three years ago, as per her Instagram story. It was also 5 pounds (2.3 kilograms) lighter than her new PR, meaning that her performance has improved significantly.
Inez Carrasquillo set her new 550-pound (249.5-kilogram) deadlift PR with a conventional stance. Moreover, she only used a lifting belt and lifting straps. For reference, her greatest lift with a deadlift suit is 580 pounds (263 kilograms).
Watch the deadlift here:

Related: Strongwoman Inez Carrasquillo Sets A 315 lbs (142.9 kg) Unofficial Log Clean & Press World Record
Although she just set a new deadlift PR, Inez Carrasquillo’s greatest strength is her pressing power. She displayed this when she competed in and won the 2023 Rainier Classic. One of the events there was the Max Log Lift which is where she set a new World Record of 145.8 kilograms (321.4 pounds). With that lift, Inez absolutely demolished the previous record, outperforming it by over 10 pounds (4.5 kilograms).
Although Inez Carrasquillo just set a new PR, she already possessed incredible deadlift power from her powerlifting days. However, she did not spend too much time in powerlifting, leaving the sport after taking part in three sanctioned competitions, and winning all of them.
When Inez Carrasquillo moved to Strongwoman, she found inspiration in the 2x World’s Strongest Man, Tom Stoltman. Both Inez and Tom are Autistic, and witnessing Tom’s achievements in the sport-inspired Inez to strive for the same level of success.
Inez Carrasquillo has already achieved incredible things in the sport, having won the 2022 Arnold Amateur Strongwoman World Championships, the 2022 Beerstone, 2022 & 2023 Rainier Classics, and more. She also placed third at the 2022 World’s Strongest Woman competition.

It’s not yet clear how many competitions Inez Carrasquillo will participate in for the rest of the year. However, she has already been confirmed as a member of Team USA for the 2023 World’s Strongest Nation competition. However, Inez is also set to make an appearance at the 2023 World’s Strongest Woman competition, hoping to improve her placing from last year.

Powerlifter Jamal Browner Sets Huge 235-kg (518-lb) Raw Bench Press PR In Training

Powerlifter Jamal Browner Sets Huge 235-kg (518-lb) Raw Bench Press PR In Training

Despite being a world class powerlifter, Jamal Browner has decided to put his career in this sport on pause and make an appearance in a Strongman competition. This comes in the hopes of setting a new Deadlift World Record, which is why this event has been his primary focus for the past few months. Jamal, however, decided to test his upper body strength, setting a new bench press PR in the process. It now stands at 235 kilograms (518 pounds), which Jamal proved by posting a video to his Instagram page.
It appears that Jamal Browner did not use any equipment whatsoever to set a new 235-kilogram (518-pound) Bench Press PR. Interestingly, this lift was 7.5 kilograms (16.5 pounds) heavier than Jamal’s greatest bench press ever performed in an official competition. If Jamal manages to preserve this strength following his upcoming Strongman event, he has the potential to revolutionize his weight class in powerlifting.
Jamal Browner attributed his newfound strength on the bench press to his recent weight gain. However, he did not reveal what his bodyweight is at the moment.
“Bench is getting stronger even though I’m not really focused on it. Probably from weight gain ? hopefully the gains stay loyal when I cut back down!”
Watch the lift here:

Related: Powerlifter Jamal Browner Crushes 435-kg (959-lb) Raw Conventional Deadlift PR In Training
Jamal Browner will make his next appearance at the 2023 Giants Live World Deadlift Championships, which will be held at the Cardiff International Arena in Wales on September 2nd. He will be one of 15 men attempting to break Hafthor Bjornsson’s World Record of 501 kilograms (1,104.5 pounds), but as the only powerlifter on the roster.
Jamal Browner has already locked out 500 kilograms (1,102.3 pounds) in training, but did so by using a sumo stance. This time, he will have to perform the deadlift with a conventional stance, as sumo is prohibited in Strongman. Still, his conventional deadlifts are also mind-blowing, as he was near the 1,000-pound (453.6-kilogram) mark on a number of occasions.
Earlier in his preparation, Jamal Browner revealed that he won’t be using a deadlift suit, although it will be allowed. So, considering how both Eddie Hall and Hafthor Bjornsson used these suits for their half-a-ton deadlifts, Jamal is set to face a very difficult task. He will only rely on the lifting straps, which are forbidden in his main sport of powerlifting.
Jamal Browned already holds one deadlift World Record in powerlifting, but he now wants to prove himself to the Strongman community as well. However, above all, Jamal is an incredible powerlifter, and he has the resume to prove it. Overall, he has taken part in 16 sanctioned competitions and won 11 of them.

Analyze Lifts

Jamal Browner’s new bench press PR has revealed a lot about his current shape. Most importantly, we can now see that he is feeling good and strong, sitting at a heavier bodyweight than usual. According to Jamal, he plans to lose weight after his Strongman outing. So, it remains to be seen if he is able to keep his strength after the process.

Strongwoman Lucy Underdown Locks Out 310-kg (683.4-lb) Unofficial Deadlift World Record & PR

Lucy Underdown is on a streak of hitting new personal records in training, and it doesn’t seem like she will stop any time soon. As everyone knows, Lucy’s greatest strength is her deadlift, but she has now taken it to a whole new level. She was already capable of playing around with the current World Record weight beforehand, but has now revealed what her current one rep deadlift max is. Moreover, she posted a video of her brand new 310-kilogram (683.4-pound) deadlift PR on Instagram.
Since Lucy Underdown holds the current World Record of 300 kilograms (661.4 pounds), it means that her new PR is also an Unofficial World Record. However, considering how incredibly heavy this lift is, Lucy made it look easier than expected. Moreover, she only used a lifting belt and lifting straps to unofficially break the World Record by 10 kilograms (22 pounds).
Lucy Underdown captioned the video with two questions. “How much more can I Pull?” and “Will I get 700lbs +?”. So, she is obviously not satisfied enough with this lift and hopes to lift even more. Lucy has also confirmed in one comment that she will be attempting to break the record in a Raw Strongman fashion. This means that she will not put on a deadlift suit for her official attempt, but will use lifting straps.
Watch Lucy Underdown’s video here:

Lucy Underdown received an invite to the 2023 Giants Live World Deadlift Championships, which will take place on September 2nd, in Cardiff, Wales. She accepted and will be the only woman to take part in this competition alongside 15 men. Judging by her new deadlift PR, Lucy should crush the World Record, assuming that she remains injury free, which will hopefully be the case.
Only one other Strongwoman has shown deadlift prowess close to Lucy Underdown. That woman is Victoria Long, who deadlifted 297 kilograms (654.8 pounds) with ease just a few days ago at the 2023 Khaos Classic. However, Victoria then jumped straight to 700 pounds and injured her hamstring. So, Lucy is now aiming to set the World Record bar even higher, making it practically untouchable for almost anyone.
Lucy Underdown also set a 305-kilogram (672.4-pound) Deadlift World Record on a Kratos Barbell at the 2023 UK’s Strongest Woman competition. She took part in the full contest as well, losing the title in the final event to Rebecca Roberts. However, she already has some other titles to her name, having won Arnold’s UK Strongwoman Pro and England’s Strongest Woman competitions in 2022.

Related: Lucy Underdown Pulls a 302.5-kg (667-lb) Unofficial Strongwoman Deadlift World Record in Training
Lucy Underdown has not been solely focusing on the deadlifts in training. Instead, she has been getting stronger overall, which is clear from the fact that she set a new 120-kilogram (264.6-pound) Log Lift PR just two days ago. So, she could very well become the World’s Strongest Woman very soon or claim some other prestigious titles.

11-Year-Old Jordan Mica Lands 80-kg (176.3) Raw & Beltless Squat PR at 2023 USAPL Barbell Brigade Open

11-Year-Old Jordan Mica Lands 80-kg (176.3) Raw & Beltless Squat PR at 2023 USAPL Barbell Brigade Open

It is truly incredible to live in the modern age, where we are able to watch young athletes improve in real time. The ascent of Jordan Mica has been visible for the past few years. Despite being only 11-years-old, Jordan is definitely the future of powerlifting, which is evident by how much weight he is lifting already. Well, most recently, Jordan Mica set a brand new squat PR of 80 kilograms (176.3 pounds), with the lift then shared on Instagram.
Jordan Mica’s new squat PR is far from usual since he used minimal equipment, even for someone competing in the raw division. His 80-kilogram (176.3-pound) lift was performed without a lifting belt. So, he only utilized knee sleeves to complete the heaviest squat of his career.
Jordan Mica set his new personal record at the 2023 USA Powerlifting Barbell Brigade Open, which took place on July 22, in Los Angeles, CA.

Analyze Lifts

As per the Instagram profile of Jordan Mica, which is managed by his parents and manager, he is currently ranked as the greatest Youth powerlifter in the USAPL. Moreover, he took part in nine competitions before he turned 10-years-old, and has since added a few more appearances to his name. He is often victorious, making it just a matter of time until he reaches his first world record-breaking lift.
Joran Mica is a multi-sport athlete, which is why he has to manage his time extremely well. Jordan also takes powerlifting breaks, which last about two months each year, as they aid in his proper recovery and promote growth. This approach to powerlifting is obviously working out, as Jordan is easily lifting what much older boys could not.

Powerlifter Andrew Hause Squats 362.8-kg (800-lb) For Raw Six-Rep PR

Powerlifter Andrew Hause Squats 362.8-kg (800-lb) For Raw Six-Rep PR

Andrew Hause quickly rose to fame during the past few years since everyone noticed the mind-blowing feats of strength that he has been putting out. However, for some personal reasons, Andrew has not been as active this year, not even making an appearance in any competitions. However, he is now coming back to his best shape, which is evident by the lifts he performs in training sessions. Most notably, Hause recently crushed a 362.8-kilogram (800-pound) squat for eight repetitions, which marked a new PR for him. Thus, Andrew was happy to share the achievement with his fans on Instagram.
Although it may have come as a surprise to many, Andrew Hause’s squats are stronger than ever. Furthermore, Andrew’s endurance levels have also improved, making him a brilliant athlete overall. His new 362.8-kilogram (800-pound) six-rep squat PR was raw, as he only used a lifting belt, knee sleeves, and wrist wraps to aid him in the lift.
Andrew Hause’s new six-rep squat PR impressed many people, but one man that stood out was Eric Lilliebridge. Eric is one of the greatest powerlifters ever, having broken numerous All-Time World Records.
“Crazy man ?? probably could’ve done 10 reps if you went straight to it” wrote Lilliebridge.
Watch the lift here:

Related: Powerlifter Andrew Hause Obliterates an 807-lb (366-kg) Raw Squat For Five Rep PR
Andrew Hause was supposed to compete twice this year already, but he ended up not doing so. He only gave the reasoning for the first competition withdrawal. The competition in which he wanted to take part was the 2023 Ghost Clash 2, which took place on February 18-19. However, Andrew’s life was affected by some personal problems, which were more important to him than powerlifting.
“Been on the fence lately about committing to a meet prep, had to pull out of ghost clash 2 earlier this year because powerlifting couldn’t be my priority with everything i had going on in my personal adult life” wrote Hause in February of 2023.
Later on, he announced that he would compete around May, but that did not happen, nor did he state the reasons for it.
However, Andrew Hause is now looking to better himself in every way. So, he also revealed a few months ago that he is training BJJ (Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu) alongside powerlifting. This caused him to lose a lot of bodyweight, but he recently got back up to 303 pounds (137.4 kilograms).
Andrew Hause has taken part in seven sanctioned competitions during his powerlifting career and has won all of them. He has also set All-Time World Records in both the Junior and Open age classes. So, he will be looking to add a few more records to his collection in the future.

Analyze Lifts

Andrew Hause is easily one of the strongest powerlifters in history, but as he stated in the past, “powerlifting is so one dimensional and honestly, personally, it’s so easy to get bored of it”. However, he always comes back to it after a short rest, and often in a better shape than when he left. This seems to be the case now, as Andrew is setting new PRs and chasing his future goals.

Mitchell Hooper Scores a 210-kg (463-lb) Bench Press Three-Rep PR In Preparation For 2023 Shaw Classic

Mitchell Hooper Scores a 210-kg (463-lb) Bench Press Three-Rep PR In Preparation For 2023 Shaw Classic

The Canadian Strongman Mitchell Hooper is arguably the biggest name in the sport at this moment in time. He earned this status despite only competing for a year and a few months, since he has already accumulated success that many weren’t able to achieve in over a decade of competing. He often methodically trains for competitions in which he plans to take part, which is also the case with his current preparation for the 2023 Shaw Classic. In order to perform at the highest level possible, Hooper has turned to bench press training, which has resulted in a new 210-kilogram (463-pound) three-rep personal record.
One of the events at the 2023 Shaw Classic will be the standing bench press. So, having not trained this exercise as frequently as needed beforehand, Mitchell Hooper is now pushing his limits in the hopes of making this a successful event for him. In turn, Hooper completed a training session with his coach Laurence “Big Loz” Shahlaei. During this, we saw him press 210 kilograms (463 pounds) for three reps with nothing but elbow sleeves to aid him. This marked the heaviest three-rep bench press that Mitchell has ever done, signaling that some improvement has been made.
“I’m probably the most nervous about this one (Bench Press) at the Shaw Classic. I don’t think I’m a good bench presser. I think a lot of my overhead strength comes from my legs.”
Mitchell Hooper’s coach noticed that his power on the bench press is great, but that his technique could get better. So, he advised him to create tension in the legs and the whole body. Another tip Big Loz gave to Hooper was to “squeeze” the arms rather than “punching” through the motion.

Mitchell Hooper recently competed at the 2023 Giants Live Strongman Classic, where he ended up taking third place. However, he was in the lead for the majority of the competition. Hooper now reflected on the performance and revealed that he is not satisfied, despite getting the bronze medal.
“The longer the third place sits with me, the longer I fu**ing hate it. Losing really doesn’t really sit right with me…”

Mitchell Hooper took part in 11 International competitions and won five of them. However, he is currently on a streak of ten consecutive podium finishes, proving that he is always a contender for the title.
Hooper’s greatest achievement so far was winning the 2023 World’s Strongest Man competition. However, another notable mention was his victory at the 2023 Arnold Strongman Classic.
Mitchell Hooper has been active on social media as well, revealing everything about his journey to becoming the World’s Strongest Man. This includes mental health struggles, a look into a day of his life, the supplements he uses, as well as some iconic strength challenges.

Mitchell Hooper was on a mind-blowing streak this year, winning three competitions in a row this year already. He will be looking to add some more titles to his name by the end of the year since he plans on making a few more appearances. His main focus currently is the 2023 Shaw Classic, which is evident by the fact that he set a new 210-kilogram (463-pound) bench press three-rep PR. This competition will take place on August 19-20, so just over a month remains.

Strongwoman Lucy Underdown Crushes 280-kg (617.3-lb) Deadlift Four-Rep PR In Training

Strongwoman Lucy Underdown Crushes 280-kg (617.3-lb) Deadlift Four-Rep PR In Training

Lucy Underdown is easily the greatest deadlifter in the sport of Strongwoman, but one factor that makes her better than everyone is her hunger for improvement. Despite being on top of the deadlift charts, Lucy is still training harder than everyone. So, she often breaks records and sets new PRs, which was the case with her recent training session. Lucy landed a new 280-kilogram (617.3-pound) four-rep deadlift personal record (PR), and shared the video on Instagram.
Lucy Underdown performed the 280-kilogram (617.3-pound) four-rep deadlift with a conventional stance, as sumo is not allowed in Strongwoman. Regarding the equipment, she only used a lifting belt and a pair of lifting straps. Lucy did have some trouble placing all of the weight plates onto the barbell since the sleeves were loaded to their full capacity. However, she had spotters on each side of the bar to make sure that any plates that slide off are pushed back on.
“I’ve been feeling a bit under the weather and I’m going into a few days away so I’m very happy to have hit this as a PB”

Lucy Underdown has a very busy schedule ahead of her, since she plans on taking part in three competitions in the near future. The first one will be the 2023 Official Strongman Games European Championships on August 11-13. She will then take part in the 2023 Giants Live Britain’s Strongest Woman just over one month later, and wrap it up at the 2023 England’s Strongest Woman competition shortly after.
Lucy Underdown has already made one appearance this year at the 2023 UK’s Strongest Woman competition. She put up a sensational performance, despite narrowly losing the title to Rebecca Roberts in the final event of the competition. Regardless, she displayed one of the greatest lifts in the history of Strongwoman, having set a new Deadlift World Record of 305 kilograms (672.4 pounds).
Although Lucy Underdown is currently in great shape, she has also been one of the greatest athletes in the sport for some years now. She started competing in 2020 and got noticed for her impressive static strength. Still, she narrowly missed out on winning titles, but secured podium finishes in nearly all of her appearances.
However, in 2022 Lucy made quite a statement by winning Arnold’s UK Strongwoman Pro and England’s Strongest Woman. So, she now hopes to extend her list of titles and will have a few chances to do so this year already.

Lucy’s remarkable improvement in deadlifts is evident, showcasing her dedication and potential for achieving even greater milestones in the future.

Powerlifter Serena Abweh Crushes 365-lb (165.6-kg) Raw Deadlift PR In Training

Serena Abweh has amassed a large following on social media during the past few years for her incredible transformation and mind-blowing feats of strength. Being an elite athlete, Serena is proficient in multiple lifts, but her deadlift prowess is on a level of its own. Although she has shared many heavy lifts during her powerlifting career, Serena recently announced that she locked out her heaviest deadlift ever and shared the video on Instagram. In the post, Serena is seen deadlifting a massive 365 pounds (165.6 kilograms) for a new PR (Personal Record).
Serena Abweh has perfected the sumo stance for deadlifts, so she utilized it to set her new 365-pound (165.6-kilogram) deadlift PR. Seeing how her PR was also raw, she was only able to use a lifting belt and some chalk. So, having no lifting straps to aid her, Serena grabbed the barbell with a mixed grip.
What makes Serena Abweh’s deadlift even more impressive is her bodyweight, since she weighed 105 pounds (47.6 kilograms) during the recent PR. This makes the lift 3.48x heavier than her bodyweight, which is beyond mind-blowing.

Strongwoman Nadia Stowers Lands 690-lb Long Bar 13-Inch Deadlift PR

Strongwoman Nadia Stowers Lands 690-lb Long Bar 13-Inch Deadlift PR

Nadia Stowers has made a name for herself as one of the greatest Strongwoman athletes in the world. She achieved this status through years of completing unbelievable feats of strength, as well as putting up a remarkable performance in any competition she took part in. Despite training her body continuously for years, Nadia has not reached the point of satisfaction in her career, which is why she continues to chase PRs with every session that she attends. So, her workouts tend to be very successful, with the most recent one fitting the description, as she managed to set a new 690-pound Long Bar 13-Inch Deadlift Personal Record.
Strongman and Strongwoman are arguably the most diverse strength sports in the world since even a simple exercise like the deadlift can have many variations. The 2023 WSM, Mitchell Hooper, also explained how the effects of different deadlift variations can change the difficulty. So, Nadia Stowers’ feat on the 13-inch long bar might look unusual, but it is still extremely impressive. According to Nadia, it took her three years to get the hang of deadlifting with this setup.
Nadia Stowers struggled to get the weights off the ground due to the length of the bar. However, although this is what stops the majority of people, Nadia kept pulling until she was successful.
“I love this pull for many reasons. Pushing myself beyond what I thought I could do will always be a surge for me. It literally took me 3 years to learn the long bars.”

Judging by Nadia Stowers’ Instagram, it seems that she is currently preparing for a bodybuilding competition. She shared a posing routine not too long ago and also revealed that she will not be bulking up anytime soon. Taking into account how lean Nadia is at the moment, her new deadlift PR is even more impressive.
During her Strongwoman career, Nadia Stowers took part in multiple competitions, and won the majority of them as well. Her greatest performances were at the 2021 and 2022 U82KG World’s Strongest Woman competitions, where she came out victorious.
However, Nadia Stowers’ is mostly known for her individual lifts, as she set countless World Records during her career. So, she has previously broken Bag Over Bar, Axle Deadlift, and Log Lift World Records. These records, along with multiple major titles, make Nadia one of the strongest women in history.

Nadia Stowers has always been a beast in regard to stationary strength, but her 690-pound long bar 13-inch deadlift PR is one of her greatest feats yet. In addition, she hopes to get even stronger as time passes. So, a 700-pound pull on this variation of the deadlifts could come soon for Nadia.
