Powerlifter Russel Orhii Scores a Huge 337.5-kg (744-lb) Raw Squat Two-Rep PR

Although we don’t get to see him compete very often in recent times, it is still clear that Russel Orhii is among the top powerlifters in the world. He’s always committed to his training, which is evident in his continued preparation for his upcoming professional events. Speaking of his upcoming appearance, Russel is clearly pumped up and ready to compete, as he recently achieved a new personal best by squatting 337.5 kilograms (744 pounds) for two reps. Proud of his new achievement, Russel shared the video footage on his Instagram page.
The squat has always been Russel Orhii’s greatest and most favorite event in powerlifting. One of Russel’s biggest strengths is his incredibly strong and functional legs, which enable him to lift weights that are almost 4x his own body weight. So, due to these hard-earned attributes, Russel managed to squat 337.5 kilograms (744 pounds) for two reps in a raw manner. He only utilized a lifting belt and knee sleeves.
Russel Orhii’s first rep with the 337.5 kilograms (744 pounds) looked amazing. He did not display any signs of struggle or waste any excess energy. It was only in the second rep that Russel encountered difficulties, but he passed with a smile, showing confidence in his ability to lift the weight.
“744lbs/337.5kg for 2I done got me a lil motion..My next meet is gonna go crazy”

Russel Orhii mentioned that he will compete in the caption of his post, but did not reveal any details. It is exciting to see him set a goal for some competition, as he is known for breaking records and putting on an impressive performance.
The last time that Russel Orhii competed was in December 2022, meaning that a significant amount of time has passed since. However, that also means that he has had a lot of time to improve, which is evident in his new two-rep squat PR.
Having also focused on bodybuilding during 2022, Russel Orhii has managed to put on some muscle. So, he also jumped up in bodyweight and thus competed in the 90-kilogram weight class at the 2022 USAPL Korea Winter Showdown. However, his current bodyweight is not clear, as Russel’s plans for the future were not revealed.
Overall, Russel Orhii took part in 18 sanctioned competitions during his 8-year-long career. He won 17 of them and was considered as the king of the 83-kilogram weight class. In addition, Russel also set countless National and World records.

Rudy Kadlub Lands 524-lb Raw Deadlift Two-Rep PR On His 74th Birthday

Rudy Kadlub Lands 524-lb Raw Deadlift Two-Rep PR On His 74th Birthday

Rudy Kadlub’s birthday is a big deal for powerlifting fans all around the world. His celebrations have turned into a cherished tradition for him and everyone eagerly awaits the event. The most exciting part of his birthday festivities is when he performs his customary deadlift. This year he lifted one pound more than the year before. It’s an incredible feat that always leaves everyone impressed and in awe of his strength. Last year, Rudy Kadlub lifted an impressive 523 pounds (237.2 kilograms) for his birthday deadlift. This year, to surpass his record, he lifted 524 pounds (237.7 kilograms) to celebrate his 74th birthday. However, seeing that this represents his one-rep max, no one expected that Rudy would be able to complete two reps. Well, according to his Instagram, Rudy crushed both reps and landed a new two-rep PR as well.
Rudy Kadlub’s 74th birthday was on April 10th, 2023, but he had to postpone the deadlift attempt to April 27th, due to an illness earlier in the month. Despite the setbacks, Rudy was able to come in stronger than ever, surprising everyone in the gym and on Instagram.
Rudy Kadlub only equipped himself with a lifting belt and some chalk before coming up to the barbell. He then slowly found his perfect foot placement for the sumo stance and lifted the 524 pounds (237 kilograms) with ease. However, with multiple members of his team rooting for him, Rudy completed the second repetition under peer pressure.
“For my annual birthday tradition, I pulled 524# this year, 1 pound more than last. This year, the @kabukistrength team peer pressured me into doubling it, so not only is this a raw PR deadlift weight for me, but for 2 reps!”

Rudy Kadlub also stated that he might have to re-do his goals for next year, as it is evident that an increase of just one pound is nothing for him.
“If I can get stronger every year, by the time I am 90, I can do 700 pounds”
Rudy Kadlub already holds numerous Masters World Records in powerlifting, but it is now evident that he will further improve those records in the future. This is especially impressive, seeing that Rudy has been competing for 17 years. During that time, he took part in 40 sanctioned competitions and won 34 of them.
In addition, Rudy Kadlub has contributed to the powerlifting scene in other ways than competing. He is a co-founder of Kabuki Strength, a manufacturer of gym equipment, especially barbells.

Analyze Lifts

Apart from being an incredible powerlifter, Rudy Kadlub is one of the most inspirational figures in strength sports. His feats become even more impressive each year, especially during his birthday deadlift sessions. This year’s 524-pound (237.7-kilogram) two-rep raw deadlift is his greatest one yet, so the upcoming season could see Rudy break some more records as well.

Powerlifter Hunter Henderson Smashes 501-lb (227.2-kg) Raw Conventional Deadlift PR

Powerlifter Hunter Henderson Smashes 501-lb (227.2-kg) Raw Conventional Deadlift PR

Hunter Henderson is a highly inspiring and impressive personality in the fitness community, who has achieved great success in both powerlifting and bodybuilding. Despite having accomplished more than what most athletes can only dream of, Hunter Henderson still strives for more and seeks new challenges to achieve a sense of satisfaction. Recently, she managed to achieve just that by setting a new personal record in the conventional deadlift, crushing an incredible weight of 501 pounds (227.2 kilograms). This accomplishment has left her and her fans excited and motivated for what’s next to come.
Even Hunter Henderson has stated that the deadlift is her least proficient lift on a few occasions, but that only means that there is room for improvement. So, she is trying to switch things up and that includes transitioning from a sumo to a conventional stance. In addition, she has now deadlifted over 500 pounds (226.8 kilograms) with a conventional stance for the first time ever. So, Hunter was more than thrilled to share it on Instagram.
“My first time EVER pulling 500 conventional. This is so fucking cool for me? I tried a belt this week and just wore it pretty loose. It felt comfy!
It has been a long fucking time since a deadlift has excited me. Tonight was cool.”
Hunter Henderson’s new personal record (PR) of 501 pounds (227.2 kilograms) for a conventional deadlift was achieved without any assistance from supportive gear or equipment, making it a raw lift. She did, however, wear a lifting belt and used chalk to improve her grip. To reduce the range of motion and improve her balance, she also lifted without shoes. Holding onto the barbell during the lift can also be a challenge, but Hunter effectively utilized a mixed grip to complete the lift.

Hunter Henderson seems to be in her offseason currently, which might be why she is experimenting with the conventional stance on the deadlifts. She last competed at the 2023 WRPF Ghost Clash 2 two months ago. Hunter walked off with some competition PRs and a new U82.5KG All-Time Raw World Record Squat of 267.5 kilograms (589.7 pounds).
Hunter Henderson has been competing professionally in powerlifting since 2018. In these five years, she has racked up nine sanctioned performances and, very impressively, managed to win all of them. Alongside that, Hunter also scored multiple World Records.
Hunter Henderson’s Competition PRs

Squat: 267.5 kilograms (589.7 pounds) — (2023 WRPF The Ghost Clash 2)
Bench Press: 155 kilograms (341.7 pounds) — (2022 WRPF FQ Classic 2)
Deadlift: 260 kilograms (573.2 pounds) — (2021 WRPF Kern US Open)
Total: 670 kilograms (1,477.1 pounds) — (2023 WRPF The Ghost Clash 2)

Apart from her powerlifting achievements, Hunter Henderson is also a very impressive bodybuilder as well. Moreover, she even earned her IFBB Pro Card at the 2021 NPC USA Championship, and competed at one more competition after it, the 2021 IFBB Tampa Pro.

Crossing over to a conventional stance from sumo is definitely very difficult, but it certainly shows just how talented and strong Hunter Henderson is. It is also not clear if she will continue training in this way or if her goal was purely to set this 501-pound (227.2-kilogram) PR. Either way, Hunter will continue displaying her strength and impress the powerlifting fans.

Powerlifter Jamal Browner Crushes 435-kg (959-lb) Raw Conventional Deadlift PR In Training

Powerlifter Jamal Browner Crushes 435-kg (959-lb) Raw Conventional Deadlift PR In Training

Jamal Browner is a household name in the powerlifting community, mainly because of his mind-blowing deadlift abilities. With his mastery of the sumo stance, Jamal Browner is able to lift weights that are unfathomable to most people. However, many people also claim that sumo deadlifts are easier than conventional. So, these people also doubted Jamal’s strength. However, Jamal has decided to prove them wrong and go for a one-rep max conventional deadlift. This conventional deadlift came out to 435 kilograms (959 pounds), which is a new PR for Jamal.
Jamal Browner proudly shared his newest achievement on Instagram, silencing all the haters which can often be found in the comment section. To make it even more impressive, Jamal completed the lift in a raw manner, using only a lifting belt. The majority of people who are capable of lifting this much weight are unable to do it without the help of lifting straps. However, Jamal did not need them, as his grip strength is off the charts. This comes as a result of perfecting the hook grip through many years of powerlifting.
“Small Pr ?? but happy with how it moved!”

Apart from silencing the naysayers, Jamal Browner also has some other motivations to improve his conventional deadlift. He has been invited and accepted the invite for the 2023 Giants Live Deadlift World Championships. The competition belongs to a Strongman organization and will take place on September 2nd at the Cardiff International Arena, in Wales. It will feature the greatest deadlifters from the Strongman community, as well as Jamal Browner, who is much smaller and lighter compared to the other competitors.
The goal at the 2023 Giants Live Deadlift World Championships is to break the All-Time World Record, currently in possession of Hafthor Bjornsson. The 2018 WSM champion locked out 501 kilograms (1,104.5 pounds) in 2020. So, If Jamal is successful in doing so, he will receive a lucrative cash prize.
Jamal Browner is not neglecting his powerlifting career, but instead plans on achieving multiple goals at the same time. This year, he has not competed, but he may make an appearance in the near future. Overall, during his seven years as a professional powerlifter, Jamal took part in 16 sanctioned events, winning 11 of them.

Analyze Lifts

Jamal Browner will not be able to perform deadlifts with a sumo stance at the 2023 Giants Live Deadlift World Championships. However, he will have permission to use lifting straps and a deadlift suit, but that will be optional. It is not clear what his choice will be, but it is clear that when it comes to raw deadlifts, he is one of the best in the world.

How To Grow Stronger and Hit A PR In 4-Weeks

How To Grow Stronger and Hit A PR In 4-Weeks

Steps To Hit A PR In 4-Weeks
Many people join a gym to get bigger and stronger. It’s no secret that to gain muscle mass, you need to be constantly pushing your limits. If you aren’t hitting a PR every four weeks or so, it could be a sign of hitting a plateau.
If you’re reading this article, we’re assuming that you’re encountering an overhead ceiling. Following the steps mentioned below will help you break through the plateau and hit a PR in four weeks.
Set a Goal

Some people confuse PRs (personal record or personal best – PB) with 1RM (One Rep Max). Your personal best can be your 1RM but it can also be the maximum number of reps you can perform with a certain amount of weight.
For instance, your PR goal could be to bench 315lb for one rep or deadlift 225lb for eight reps. Hitting a PR isn’t something which happens randomly. You need to plan and prepare for it in advance.

Think of a PR attempt as an exam. You need to prepare for it on a timeline before you enter the examination hall. Setting a well-defined goal and prepping for it could help you in passing the exam.
Take It Easy On The PR Exercise
Contrary to mainstream thinking, you shouldn’t push too hard on the main exercise while prepping for the PR. Most of the times, weaker secondary (helping) muscles are what keep you from hitting a PR.
Performing more difficult versions of the lifts can help you gain strength for the main exercise. For example, if you want to hit a PR on the squats, performing front squats can prime you by reinforcing an aspect of technique which carries over to the main lift.
In the 4 weeks leading up to the PR attempt, you should perform the main exercise only as a warm-up lift so that your working muscles don’t get too tensed up. Doing other versions can dial in the technique and help you crush your PR.
When you’re looking to hit a PR, you generally want your muscles to be tighter and movements to be explosive. You can achieve tightness and explosiveness by using variations like pause squats, deficit deadlifts, etc.

Use Primer Sets
Primer sets are the sets which you perform before attempting the PR. The primer sets help you in getting in the groove and get your muscles warmed up and ready to go for the set you had been working so hard for for the last four weeks.
Pro tip – Don’t save the primer sets for the D-day. Perform the primer sets for the entire fourth week (without attempting the PR) so your muscles are used to lifting the weights, and you establish a mind-muscle connection.
Primer sets are an incredibly effective way of getting you in the zone for your PR. Performing the primer sets with great form and explosiveness can boost confidence and wake up high threshold motor units to get you ready for your working sets.

What is your bench press PR? Let us know in the comments below. Also, be sure to follow Generation Iron on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
